  • How well does Fate/Grand Order portray Galahad, the Knight of the Holy Shield? How close is Galahad's in-game version to his mythological counterpart? In this video we delve into his character design, in-game skills, and characterization in order to determine that, followed up by giving it a grade in terms of its historical accuracy. Was Galahad truly the purest of all Round Table Knights - to the point of seeming inhuman? Find out here!

My theory is that Galahad isnt actually a organic being he is much like Mordred a Homunculus creted using the DNA of a round table knight.
This is why he seemed to have had the singel goal of beimg the best knight and finding the Holy grail as he was created for that purpose.
The major difference between them is that unlike Mordred he lacked her sense of self and followed along his set purpose.
This might explain why he allowed himself to be summoned into Mash and showed her comparison as he recognise that she is similar in natural to himself.
Even his alter self only allowed himself to be summoned by a Homunculus whitch might just strengthen this theory

@@CrazyYurie There is actually a really funny meta story with the Arthurian legend concerning Galahad. Basically he was inserted as fanfiction to make a perfect knight in response (kinda like a F you) to Lancelot, who was basically a French fanfiction insertion with depicting French Courtly Love. I highly suggest watching Overly Sarcastic Production's "Legends Summarized: King Arthur," which talks about it and the history of Arthurian legend itself. Highly recommend OSP, made it really fun to learn about all sorts of historical and mythical characters and legends from the real world and FGO by proxy.
Edit: I just noticed that this just made Galahad's dislike for Lancelot kinda make sense on a meta contextual level. I doubt it was intentional (might be, who knows), but it does make it really funny for me.

Its completley possible, but i think galahad being a human would be more interesting for me. Specially now that you mentioned mordred, the fact that the one who always tried to be againts her designed purpose and to act upon her own emotions, while the human one simply moved towards the said purpose. I think galahad being human can help the parallels (even tho the writers dont seem that interested on making those parallels between the two, which is weird because a lot of modern arthurian fans focus a lot more on the two)

Happy Holidays! Yeah, with how much of a disconnected ideal Galahad can feel like, I think they made the right call in sticking his powers with another character and mostly trying not to involve him directly. I really like Mash, and part of that comes from watching how she slowly grows as a character over the course of the game. She is a very human character, even if she isn't literally human in the strictest sense. But Galahad is such an ideal, that he seems like he doesn't really have enough humanity left to connect to. I don't know how well I'd be able to empathize with a character that is essentially "perfect"

Finally finished LB6! No longer will I have to worry about being spoiled (at least on NA)! Wooooooo! Also, Castoria's expressions are PEAK!
...(Ahem) Anyways, thanks for the wonderful Christmas present! I've always seen Galahad's first skill as having more to do with Mash than Galahad himself, with Mash having lived her whole life on top of a snowy mountain in Antarctica. Not to mention that said first skill is the only one that changes to being purely offensive when she's in the Ortinax suit (perhaps to reflect Chaldea's mission statement being more aggressive in the Lostbelts?).
Funnily enough, we do see Mash reflecting Salter's NP back at her in the First Order movie. Though like you said, we probably don't have this effect in game because it would be too OP. The closest we have in game would be Bazett's NP, so maybe they could find a way to have it work in game? Maybe have it so the enemy takes half damage from the reflected attack? I don't know, it's just a thought.
We do get some third-hand characterization for Galahad from fellow Arthurian characters such as Bedivere (who says that Galahad was a massive airhead), Salter (who says that the way he uses his powers makes him innocent), Mordred (who clearly doesn't like him) and Merlin (who calls him "the most heartless man [he's] ever met"). I've always wondered what the original Artoria's opinion on Galahad were.
The best interpretation I've found for Galahad's depiction in FGO is that, while he is the perfect knight, that does not make him the perfect _person_ . His unwavering sense of justice can be a hinderance when he places those ideals above the innocent people that he's sworn to protect. Or how someone else put it: "He’d see the trolley problem and walk away, because making a choice could let someone die, which is bad, not caring that his inaction will also let someone die, and ignoring the fact that he’s absolutely strong enough to just punch the trolley off the damn tracks before it hits anyone".
This could explain the "B" scenario for why Mash is unable to fully use Galahad's powers after Part 1, though it's much more likely to be a combination of "A" and "C".
Also, this might just be me, but it felt like you were trying hard not to call Galahad a Mary Sue in this video. Considering Arthurian legend is (in)famous for it's various author's trying to one-up each other, with Galahad's entire character being created to show up Lancelot, I'd say the Mary Sue label is more of a statement of fact in this case.

    • @CrazyYurie

I was absolutely was thinking about calling Galahad a Sue, but figured doing so might be a tad too aggressive. I don't know. I'm still really new to this CZcams business. I don't know how much people are willing to tolerate bashing of other characters, you know? One thing i really wish they had done early on in the story was giving us more hints towards Galahad’s identity (aside from mordred saying they were coworkers and that she doesnt vibe with him) was showing Galahad’s faith impacting mash when interacting with saints or romans. Like, we have martha, jeanne, George, and i think they could have give us some hints towards his identity by having mash being drawn to them and/or showing interest to Christianity a bit more. Or have him be hostile towards some servants or a bit more welcoming towards Christian servants. They only showed him being mad at his dad and spent eight years making jokes out of it. They could show him being either hostile or welcome towards mordred. Who is you Know? The one character a lot of arthurian fans and authers use as a mirror or outright have them Impact eachother? Galahad IS interesting and i literally crave official galahad content. But i sometimes Feel like the writers arent really willing to right him that much.

I wait in cautious curiosity for the day that they release another Shielder. Full-stop Galahad, or maybe Leonidas...
Galahad's sparseness in appearance really feels in part a matter of "he's barely even human", from what little you can see of others' opinions (like Merlin). It makes me think of the pre-game Solomon in that regard. TOO perfect. TOO close to the big man upstairs to be able to human properly. His understanding of what's "good" or "evil" is just not compatible with much of what a normal person would be. The Throne would be very hard-pressed to summon something in it's defense that doesn't perceive the matter as something needing (or possibly, being capable of) saving. If he was summoned as a Demiservant instead of being used as a Pseudo-Servant like with Mash, though, it'd probably be another matter entirely...and if people like Sima Yi and Zhuge Liang can, why not him?
Though, said mindset might make his appearance in Moonlight a bit more questionable.

Merlin doesn't actually hate Galahad. He simply points out that he lacks humanity and can come across as lacking a heart.
Also wasn't it phased in a way that Galahad has such faith in humanity that he dosent actually think they need him to help, and that's why he isn't normally summoned.
Also you do know that the quest for the Holy grail took the knights outside of great Britain and across the sea so they more then likely had no idea what was going on and would arrive to late to get involved.
Interestingly enough, the fact he was able to be summoned into Mash and shows compassion towards her.
The fact that he listened to her when she begged him not to destroy Chaldea and kill Marisbury.

@@federicofilippini6780 The thing is that Moonlight lostroom is kind of in an odd place canon wise as we don't know how "real" the events were as it's set up like a dream.
It's not even clear if it was actually Galahad we were talking to or another being using his image.
The information we get is more just filling in the blanks and telling us the role we played in what will happen.
As for why Galahad wasn't upfront, it could do with the fact that the human order has taken Marisbury's side, so he doesn't actually know if he can trust us.
Similar to how the other factions against Marisbury have been either vague or hostil to us as they don't know if we can be trusted.
The grail quest was actually done with Arthur blessing he allowed his knights to go it, so it wasn't against his orders, so I am not sure where you got that idea from. Galahad succeeded in the quest he healed the Kingdom and then returned the grail to haven, which was the whole purpose of the quest.
His fellow knights were alive when he left, and they gave their blessings as well, so at this point, it's almost like you are purposely trying to make it seem more negative.
I put in another comment, but I actually believe that Galahad wasn't actually human and was an artificial life from similar to Mash, and that's part of the reason why she could summon him.

Goeitia had killed everyone and was going to replace us with empty husks with no purpose besides being "at peace" between his plan and the alien god, we'd be in a lose-lose scenario cuz we'd all die no matter what.

We know that her magic circuits were all messed up post fou revival, probably making it a lot harder to stay in her galahad-combat form, and that her resolve was messed up with the lostbelts and such.
After all that, I personally believe that the main point of Galahad not helping mash/not being able to as much anymore is she so to say, become a knight of the round table in her own, or more literally carved out her own place as a heroic spirit.
Just wanted to put my take on things even if I'm 5 months late to the video, good work with it either way!

Maybe the snow of the first skill relates more to Mash then Gallahad as she has lived all her live in Cheldea wich is in the Arctic. So Snow is all she realy ever saw of the world and by extension Gallahad himself fore years only saw snow, IF he was the entire time concious within Mash

great to see your channel growing bigger every video, but i'm just curious if you're ever thinking about going back to the near-hour long videos really getting into the details, maybe as something like and uncut patreon version or whatever, or if you just don't feel like tjat stuff is really worth all the time and effort

While you do raise some good points, I still have mixed feelings about Fate Galahad. Everything about him that we’ve seen so far just really rubs me the wrong way. To me, he’s always come off as just a total *asshole* for no real reason; A holier-than-thou misanthrope with a “not my circus, not my monkeys” philosophy. None of it feels right, he feels like an annoying edgy teenager with all the critical thinking skills of one.
I will admit, this is probably just my bias talking because Galahad is my favorite Arthurian Knight. So maybe I’m just upset because while he might be accurate in the ways that you listed, he’s not accurate in way that makes *me* happy. So maybe it doesn’t matter, idk. Just thought I’d throw my thoughts out here.

    • @CrazyYurie

I might be biased, since I don't find Galahad interesting even in his original form.
