One of the best covers ever made. No matter how many times I listen to this song only two words come to mind. Ear Porn.
Draiman just put a LOT of naysaying critics to bed for good! My god I have always loved the song, could nbot stand Simon and Garfunkels voices to be honest. This song has just been covered in a way I have NEVER seen in my life time. I ve have been a heavy metal guitarist since 1987, and I have never heard a Metal Centered Vocalist with his skills EVER. AND I think Draiman just flipped the bird to the critics. Sitting on a Bar Stool, maintaining projection along is just not supposed to be possible sitting. Such a lyrical masterpiece. Paul Simon knows how to write.
I wrote a lead score on electric guitar that follows vocals, People would pay to NOT hear me sing. Who the hell could dream of following that Guy!!
Short end of the story WOW!!!!! When I listen, I totally forget everything in my mind, but the song, now that takes an epic piece to do that to me. This piece is far beyond that. If you watch a persons reactions to this song, they cannot hide their souls, I have never seen people react so strongly to any song in my memory. It makes them expose their souls a little.
Yep, it's rare that a cover exceeds the original, but Disturbed nailed it on this one.

I play Heavy Metal Guitar, and I have been doing that since 85, played Guitar since 78. Being in the Genre soooo long you get acclimated to a certain kind of talent, and Im probably repeating myself here, but I cannot think of any Vocalist in memory that has the range, and ability that David Draiman has, he is a truly gifted and blessed individual. Dramain appears to be a very well educated man, he carries himself well. I have heard that he is a very kind individual when it comes to his fans. I wrote a lead guitar piece that follows his lyrics, I did it so I could play along, and put the songs emotion into my guitar , and let her speak for me, as Folks would pay me to NOT sing HAHAHA. I too can listen to this piece over and over again.
Very few songs get the attention and homework that Draiman obviously put into it , Draimans version took a legendary song, and bumped it up to a level I have never seen before, and by that I simply have never heard a song that gets the same type of review. Half a MILLION likes !!! I rarely post on the internet, let along give this much opinion on anything, that is precisely how moved I was by this rendition. No offense to Simon and Garfunkel, but Draiman is just what Sound of Silence needed, just never thought he would deliver it in a Thermonuclear Bombshell like that !!!!

We have to be better at spreading information about David, he was NOT trained classically in the terms of classical training he was trained as a Jewish Cantor. There’s a difference between a classically trained singer like Avi Kaplan vs David Draiman! People think he was classically trained like Avi but he wasn’t!

David Draimen has one of the most powerful, and controlled singing voices I’ve ever heard... gives me goosebumps every time I hear this version of this song.
Dave Dramain said that he didnt want to do this song at first because it was out of his comfort zone, despite being classically trained. His pitch is spot on. I never heard of Disturbed before this song, and the man sings this song to your soul. He would be an incredible Phantom in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera

Paul Simon one of the original singers for this song actually gave Disturbed his blessing to do this song. Afterwards Paul Simon told David ( the lead singer for Disturbed) that they brought the song to a higher plain of music them Simon and Garfunkel ever did
@ Justin - Someone else commented that Simon and Garfunkel's version was a warning, and Disturbed's version was rage because the warning was not heeded. I think this gives honor to both versions. I love them both.

Never autotune! I saw them live a few times, and he definitely doesnt need it...one of the best vocalists ever!!

Maryjane Mckenrick Apparently this one did have autotune because he was incredibly sick and the studio insisted on it. But he sings it incredibly well without auto tune.
Great thing about this song is that no matter how many times you listen to it you still get those "shivers" you were talking about. I've been listening to this song since it came out and I still get misty eyed when i hear it. You should also look up the original by Simon and Garfunkel. David Draiman sings it wonderfully, but those two are the one's who wrote the lyrics and the original song. This is an inter-generational master piece.

His voice is amazing!! I'm not crazy about hard metal music, but some of Disturbed is not too bad! I became a fan after hearing this. I love the original of Sound of Silence and this one is just as good. Of course a different sound but then again it's a different time!!

I grew up listening to Disturbed. They're actually a metal band, and in the metal world they're legendary. There's been a lot of biased about music in the mainstream for a while now, and it makes me happy to see people putting metal bands back in the spotlight. I love how you say "He told a story with his voice" when the whole meaning of the song is about communication. Music is a wonderful thing that it can not only communicate a story but the emotion of the story teller.

My mom actually turned me on to this version when it first came out. She was like you have got to hear this and know the original by Simon & Garfunkel very well as I was raised on their music. Also knowing Disturbed very well before did not know what to expect. It brought tears to my eyes and watched my mom tear up at the same time, and she was like 13-14 when the original came out. I believe this is probably one of the best covers of all time. I even heard Paul Simon state that David Drainen owned this song by means of how powerful he put his emotion into it

The range that David Draiman has is simply amazing. David has a powerful voice when he needs it and he does it effortlessly. This band is my one of my favorite bands and I can not wait to see them live with my son (this will be his first metal concert)
This song has so many different meanings... When schools, especially public schools from kindergarten through high school, run out of funding, the first programs they cut ✂️ are the art's, music, theater, etc. Also, ISOLATION, DIVISION, LONELINESS, NOT COMMUNICATING, NOT STANDING UP FOR OUR RIGHTS OR EXPRESSING OURSELVES AND WHAT WE BELIEVE IN. We no longer interact face to face with each other, but through technology, social media on our cell phones and computers. I could go on and on. 😢

Good music should return your soul to the joy of your youth. This man is real as real can get. You could see it in his eyes during the reaction. It lifted his soul.
It thrills me to find other people willing to experience music in its true form. I'm a mid-40's Irish guy with roots in 80's rock and metal, you aren't (LOL!), but this one track from Disturbed gives us both the same reaction. And that's a beautiful thing!

8:34 He actually is an Opera singer! He was professionally trained as an Opera singer before he formed the band Disturbed. And he has what is called a "tenor" voice. And also on top of all this HE WAS SICK DURING THIS PERFORMANCE!! That's crazy! I think I heard he had a fever of 102 degrees while doing this live performance!

Disturbed have done covers of iconic songs such as Genesis' Land of Confusion. It is reported that Paul Simon loved Disturbed's version.

Actually, Paul Simon endorsed this video. The first recording by Simon and Garfunkel was a warning to mankind to start communicating. The video of 'Sound of Silence' was supposed to be the SECOND WARNING, ENDORSED BY PAUL SIMON, and comes across angrier and absolutely enraged by how people did not heed the warning for 50 years. And on the left side of the bank, are people with instruments and on the right side of the river bank are the people with the music and they cannot come together to make the music unless they communicate properly, and they finally did and what came out of it was a boat so that it could pick up the people on the left and take them to the people on the right and they could finally make music, no more silence. It was stressing the importance of communication - MUSIC. I thought people might want to know the accurate version.
What's funny is he was concerned about fitting in with Disturbed. He was in a Jazz funk fusion band before and didnt know if he had the chops to pull off being Disturbed's front man. At that point, his only training was to be a cantor. His classical training wasnt until after Disturbed
had put out a couple albums.

Also, PAUL SIMON ENDORSED THIS VIDEO AS BEING THE SECOND MORE AGRESSIVE WARNING TO MANKIND BECAUSE THE FIRST TIME, WHEN SIMON AND GARFUNKEL SANG , IT WAS THE FIRST WARNING BUT MANKIND DIDN'T GET IT. SO THAT IS REAL EMOTION, AS YOU CAN TELL. IT'S RAGE SHOUTOUT TO MANKIND ABOUT COMMUNICATION. Never heard of Disturbed? They've been around a while now since like 2000. The number one things you may have heard and not known it was them would be Down With The Sickness, Stupify, and Indestructible. Lots of sports events, movies, etc. have used those a good bit.
As far as recommendations, there's a Freddie Mercury song I had never heard before yesterday called "Barcelona". It's an operatic duet he wrote and recorded with famous Spanish opera soprano Montserrat Caballe for the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. It really showcases the range Freddie Mercury had to be so fitting in an opera.

To me, this song was prophetic. This song makes me think of people not listening or hearing because they're chained to their neon-god...the cell phone. I HATE cell phones but my brother demands that I have one since we are the last 2 left in the family. I grew up on bands like Simon & Garfunkel (Scarborough Fair) and I have to say, this version makes me cry. So beautiful yet so chilling.

That's definitely not Disturbed's usual fare! :) But what a showcase for David's voice. It's simply incredible.
The writer of the song ( Paul Simon) was really impressed with this version and as much as I love Simon and Garfunkel's version this is the best version. The song itself was a commentary on the turbulence of the 60's. The Vietnam war,poverty and remains pertinent today. It's based on the concept that evil flourishes when good people say nothing and that if we want to know we must listen ie" the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls, ( in) tenement halls". Evil happens when we stand silent, students died ( shot at Kent State university by the National guard who were sent there by Nixon) protesting the Vietnam war. After their murders the whole country stood against that horrible war. A great song by Neil Young called Ohio became almost a battle cry after their deaths and the war ended 3 years later. Nixon caved to PUBLIC PRESSURE. So if you don't like what's happening speak out. Silence never changed anything.
