Rules
The rules are the same as regular chess except for these changes. Pieces no longer move to an opponent’s square when capturing. Instead of moving to capture, your piece remains where it is and you remove an opponent’s piece that is on a square that your piece could reach in movement. You may only capture 1 piece a turn and you do not have to capture a piece if you don’t want to. A pawn performing En passant remains where it is and removes the passed over piece. Your king is allowed to capture an opponent’s adjacent piece that is protected so long as the king does not remain in check at the end of the turn. The first player to checkmate their opponent, wins.

A seemingly small change but it breaks a lot of chess tactics. It breaks every tactic where you take and then because your piece moved, there's a discovered attack. It also breaks defending pieces.

That's funny, I used to play a variant of chess with the exact same name as this. Basically the rules are the same as normal chess except when you capture a piece you pull out a rifle and shoot the piece that was captured. It was fun for me, but for some reason people would just fall asleep halfway through. Guess it's not really for everyone.

So if each piece had a firearm/ranged weapon:
Pawns would use handguns
Knights use rifles (maybe)
Rooks use sniper rifles
Bishops literally call down a orbital strike from Heaven on a single target
Queens would likely have a mixed arsenal between a sniper and some kind of rifle
And kings? It’s kinda obvious… a shotgun.

@@mariavassallo4600 It works quite well, actually. What you're forgetting is that the piece doesn't move when capturing, so capturing with a queen while there are two targets puts you at risk. And then you still need to move if you run out of targets.

Just from playing around by myself a bit, it seems like white has a massive advantage, just playing 1. e4 2. Qh5/Qf3 simultaneously starts the process of mopping up black while making it nearly impossible for them to develop anything. Delivering checkmate is harder than normal since the king can capture protected pieces, but even despite that white just gets way ahead on material as far as I can tell. If anyone thinks black has a fighting chance, play me here, I'll start with 1. e4.

I think this needs a change = let the killed piece able to attack just before dying, except if it has just moved. Otherwise nothing can kill the queen except the knights.
With my small change, queens facing each other will be traded instead of one killing the other one without any consequence.

Feels like this rule breaks chess too fundamentally.
- I can't defend a piece anymore because the attacker doesn't occupy my captured piece's square.
- I can't block check because my attacker can just keep mowing down defenders until I'm out of bodies to throw in front

- Every gambit is now just a blunder
