I don't know I think he is the mastermind and just lets the mom do whatever she wants unless she does something not beneficial. This episode with them and that one moment of clarity kind of says he is the one controlling her while letting her think she is in control. Sort of like not being a threat for her until shit starts hitting the fan and then he goes all over it.

Think he’s more of an example of neglectful/absentee parent - approachable and nice on the surface but enables his wife’s abuse of their kids by just being there and doing nothing. He confronts Odalia a little at the end but not enough to challenge or really change how she treats the kids. Amity and her sibs deserve better ;_;

I think that Alador has more power in his marriage with Odalia than we give him credit for. Yes, he does leave most of the business transactions and discipline of the children to his wife, but he also seems to be her voice of reason, as seen when he convinced her to let Luz and her friends go unharmed. Also, he doesn’t seem of afraid of her in any way, which is shown when he raises his voice at her telling her to honor her deal with Amity. Could he be a better and more involved father? Absolutely! But as far as his marriage goes, I think he’s got that on lock. That’s just my interpretation.
The one thing keeping Odalia from crossing him: She knows if he walks he takes the company and the Blight Fortune with him and Odalia not only loses face but also the power and influence she craves.
Also, in the recent episode we learn that he likely never knew about the necklace. Due to his absence from his family's life he just took Odalia's word for what was happening. I won't be surprised if we found out that most of the times he aided Odalia, she had twisted the truth to her favour.
TOH has already given us the first LGBT relationship in Disney.
Now, seeing these two, they could give us the first divorce request as well
I love how absolutely horrified Amity (and everyone honestly) looks when Alador accidentally says they need to be executed.

Usually in these scenarios, the betrayed person would disown the person in Amity's position because it makes for easy conflict. I like that Luz realizes Amity is afraid of her mother and doesn't turn on her for saying nothing

That moment when you realize she has the same voice as Hayley Smith from American Dad.
Suddenly, her 'Karen'-esque behavior makes A LOT more sense.
She reminds me a lot of Moon from Star Vs. The Forces of Evil since both are overbearing control freaks who think they know better than their own daughters and forces them to obey/listen to them,putting so much stress on them. Also,they both speak with a high-class accent,both prone to anger when their daughter don't listen to them or they cause trouble, and both have a husband,who is more nicer and good-hearted than they are.
Moon despite her flaws truly cared about her daughter and learned to respect her independence. Odelia only sees her family as assets to be used and I seriously doubt she will ever change for the better.

I thought about this scene hard and then I really realized that she was ready to kill a child so she could have control over her own daughter and that's so sick
One of the things that disturbed me about the show most and this is from season two is Amity’s parents are abusive and have trained her twin siblings to bully her. I thought that Mittens was just a pet name she didn’t like from the twins but after I heard her mum say it, it made me feel sick. Her mother does not love her properly or maybe even at all. She shows signs of narcissistic personality disorder and Amity’s father is basically letting her get away with torturing his daughter. When Amity’s mum finds out her grades are slipping she blames her friends gets them expelled almost ruining their goddamn lives and making her daughter miserable then when Lux try’s to get Ami’s life back to the way it was aka bearable she tries to KILL her no exaggeration and it was not very well hidden. I thought it was a little intense for a children’s show. Amity’s mother’s parenting style is a mix between the authoritarian (aka abusive and I will not let you argue me on this point) and helicopter styles of parenting. Which by the way are the worst styles of parenting proven by real child psychologists. Amity’s has growing up in a hostel environment where everyone in her family is against her and she will never be good enough. The twins clearly care about her but they are way too influenced by the ideology of their mother to realise how much damage they’re doing to her psyche. I just hope that the twins can get away from there mum when they get to legal age, because face it they are not getting very well treated as well and learn that their childhood was not normal. I feel bad for all of them but at least the twins have each other Amity has no one. When it comes down to it the twins will not sand up for her in front of her parents. It is show very well that they at least don’t appreciate the way their mother does things though there rebellion though pranks and getting in trouble for any attention at all.

This compilation hits a helluva lot harder after the "Clouds on the Horizon" ep.
These scenes hurt me the most because i live currently in a similar scenario. Although my mother isn't this controlling sometimes i feel it is. Truely i'm more confused if she is. She says she's nice and isn't abusive and at times she is really sweet and kind but i can never seem to live up to her expectations, she always has something to criticize me for. Whenever we're at home she feels suffocating and always wants my help when it comes to technology or read small printing of stuff and has no respect for my privacy. Just as i write she came asking me to read the fine print of her makeup. She's even removed the locks to my room and barges in even when i put up a sign. I also feel obligated for many reasons to help her and not stay out too long. Also she claims alot of times she's right even when she's wrong and hypocritical. Also she has banned me from seeing my relatives or my culture people. She gives me lectures all the time and no matter what i say she won't stop it. It won't matter if i say i'm sorry or i was smart enough to think about it she'll give that lecture as if i was a brick wall. I've tried standing up to her but it nevers works, either she won't admit she's wrong, we would argue for hours, and/or i'm deemed crazy and possibly sent to a psychiatry ward. I know she's been abused in the past so i don't want to be mean to her but i'm just really confused cause some days i love her and alot of the other days she feels suffocating. Any help on identifying if this is toxic? I just want hope that i can move out but it sometimes doesn't feel possible.

Sorry to see that you're going though all that.
The best I can say is to just try and stay out of the way as much as possible, keep your grades up (it doesn't have to be a 4.1 GPA but you know, something that won't add fuel to the fire) and make sure that your chores and homework are done on the regular bases at least because it just seems like she's always looking for an excuse to fuss at you which isn't fair.
Know how to pick your battles because you DO NOT have the time nor the mental compacity to try and win them all. Trust me!
I'm gonna go ahead and assume that you're under 18 so the most you can do is to just stay out of trouble as much as possible. You can only do so much to make her happy, but if your best isn't enough, there isn't much that you can do and frankly, it shouldn't have to be your job to make her happy.
She most likely has the mindset like, "Hey! I pay your bills and feed you which makes me smart while you don't have a job...which makes you dumb. Everything I say and do is always right, even if it's wrong, so I don't have to listen to you! ( unless it's how to set up an account on eBay. Then you'll have my full attention because I don't know Jack about technology! Lol!)"
It just seems like a lot of people have been duped into thinking that parenthood is the ✨wonderful thing✨ only to realize that they weren't ready for it and then make YOU miserable because of the one decision in your life that you had no say in whatsoever and it sucks.
And despite how everyone is going on and on about how only straight parents should be allowed to have kids, I am a firm believer that the one people who should have (or at least be around kids) are those who are level headed, patient, and actually CARE about how the kids will turn out in 20 years. Because too many times, parents believe that they can do any say WHATEVER they want to their kids and they'll just turn out OK. And if they don't, then it is...

The only bit of good news that I can give is that this won't last forever.
You will be able to move out, be independent, and you won't have to listen to that nonsense anymore. And no, you don't have to go back home for Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner if you don't want to.
And try to find a hobby or some kind of healthy outlet (drawing, jogging, meditation, AMVs, games, cooking, ECT...) to take your mind off things.

It’s hard to acknowledge that a person you love is also the person who is hurting you. It can be very confusing and you might doubt your own judgement at times. Try to remember that just because someone was mistreated, doesn’t mean they have the right inflict it onto others. I recommend visiting your school’s counselor or talking to your favorite teacher. They’re there to help you and to make sure you’re in a good place physically & mentally. Best of luck friend. Hope things get better between you and your mum.

He just pays attention to Amity when it’s something related to abominations,since Edric and Emira are in the ilusionist coven( which is considered a “weak” coven) and since you can’t change an witch’s magic Odalia and Alador never pay attention to them. Since Amity has an affinity with abominations they probably have big standarts for her,that’s why she felt so pressed. But anyways,i think they both are going to get an redemption arc.

2:39 Imagine if Alodor didn't step in. I can imagine Odalia going back on her word and keeping Luz and the others out of Hexside. Finding out next day that the expulsion hasn't been lifted, Luz and Amity would be extremely mad with Odalia. But then Willow steps in and says
Willow: "Guys. Its better that we not go into this any more. We almost lost Luz last night. Sometimes you have to admit when that you're beaten. I know its unfair, especially after what Luz went through but any more confrontation, persuasion, or anything with Odalia will only just backfire."
Luz and Amity reluctantly accept this.
Now don't get me wrong. I don't like my alternate ending one bit. I much prefer the canon ending. Its just I feel that Luz, Willow and Gus were just save by a mere thread which was Alador. I mean Odalia's holding all the aces. She would've easily backed out of her deal with Luz once she killed her with no one whose close to her like Eda, Amity, Willow, or Gus knowing it. And when Amity held her end of her own deal with her mom by letting the Abomination 2.0 defeat her and Luz, Odail could;d've just as easily weaseled out of the deal with no one but Alador, Amity, and Amity's friends knowing of this. She has the authority to do so and the power to deny any deals her daughter and Luz "claimed" to have made.
I know its harsh. But it could also be a lesson to Luz that there are just some times where she'll have to admit that she has been beaten and she can't do anything to change that. And any attempt to do so would only make things worse for her, Willow and Gus than it already is, if not dying from any of those attempts. I still don't like the alternate ending I made, but it still could be another alternate lesson to learn. Its an optional, perhaps just a important lesson for the main characters to learn, of not more harsher. Think about it.
