Jamaica is a beautiful island in the Caribbean sea and almost every Jamaican currently living over seas has a dream of building a beautiful house and retiring to year round sunshine and cool Caribbean breeze. We encourage you to return, but we encourage you to educate your self before returning. This video is filled with useful information that could help one to achieve this dream and live it out SAFELY.

I remember back in the 80's and 90's when Jamaicans would come to visit Jamaica they were super extra. They would wear their best clothes and gold chains and would drive around in cars that had "Rental" listed as the license plate. Everyone of us knew they were foreigners when we saw the license plates and as such they became targets for crooks. When numerous cases of attacks escalated the rental car companies decided to remove the "Rental" plates and opted for regular plates. The flossing was ridiculous and I remember as a teenager thinking that these people was rich until I moved to US and really saw how they lived.

little a dis an little a dat all Jamaicans going home for a day or week have to rent a car ,and a flashy good car because they want to go beach ,river, see friends, family and go club but sometimes sleep on couch or makeshift bed and some of the jewelry is fake and Jamaicans always want to wear good clothes I remember back in 70s if you going to a dance you purchase material of WOOL ,enough to make a pants take it too tailor and rush him to make pants, then you go purchase a arrow shirt and mybe cufflinks ,NEW SOCKS AND UNDERWARE A MUST,CAR OR BIKE MUST LOOK LIKE NEW.I noticed the women were similar new dress new hairdo , new shoes etc we just want to look good ,no matter how house look Monday we deal with that .JAMAICANS HAVE LOTS PRIDE AND ARE VERY BOASTING

About those who want to return home, don't go on build a big mansion in the poor neighborhood, people going to grudge you and want to kill you, build your Mansion where there are all ready mansion that mean everybody is on the same level, if you came from a poor neighborhood and want to go back there you have to down size that's just common sense.

wat a gwaan Souflo, blessed love man and all the best for years to come. Star mi just spent five months a Jamaica, yes five months and i wondered the same thing. I saw so many mansions being built by potential returnees (i live in Mandeville),one of many issues that i see is , that they are being built by people of my age (too old to be building house now, much less mansion). Also, why so many floors (stories) a 3 story house is just too much, if the plan is to rent then you are still too old to become a landlord especially in Jamaica, plus you've been gone too long. I left Jamaica in 1969 and every chance i get I go home, even during the political unrest years, didn't let that stop mi. Speaking from experience, i saw my brother build his house in Malvern, big upstairs and down stairs, i asked why two stories, so he could see the view from his bed room upstairs and his daughter would live down stairs. When i went back to look for him things changed, alot, his knees were giving him problems and he couldn't climb the steps going up,my niece now lives abroad with her man,no one lives upstairs. My sister tried twice, she is from Lucea, build a ten bedroom house but nobaddy nah rent dat, so she moved back a fahrin, she sey Jamaica too expensive fi har...so all har retired money sidung inna the monstrocity a yawd,,nuff sed....

So very sad but so on point. I'm not Jamaica, but I love the Country and have visited for many years. I even own land in a county town where I know onone and had planned to build a lil shanty. Years ago this would not have concerned me, but now...Wow!! Even as a visitor (have actually spent time in all but 2 parishes) I have noticed that the crime has made even the good folks retreat and sometimes reluctant to show that essence of the people that us foreigners fell in love with on our 1st visit long ago. #SituationalAwareness

Most of them people who live in gated communities live better life than those who moved to farrin! They get their own exclusive amenities, peace of mind & their own safety. The only thing that puts me off of those is that you pay nuff money for a smaller amount of land. So less space to grow your fruits. But we don’t get any of those benefits or land at all in London so it’s still an upgrade! 🤣

@@islandgirlruby2750 Anybody who knows about the reality of life in the UK can easily comprehend why a gated community in JA would be a step up from the houses in London. Hence why nuff are buying up the houses in the communities. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Very interesting video especially as it relates to my current status as a British Jamaican. I try to visit every two to three years. Not sure what I will do come retirement as that is a long way off but given the crime wave I really am not in any hurry. You raised very valid points especially of the romanticised and nostalgic feelings older returning residents have of Jamaica before coming back only to realise things and times have indeed changed. May we take heed and look seriously into what has been raised.

I grew up in a area close by Vineyard town. Left at age 13. At age 27 I bought a house there and moved back. 3yrs later I migrated and today I am planning on rebuilding with alot of additions with plans to to turn it into an AIRBNB/APT complex. Man street smart and know how the area run but I'm still thinking twice and thrice about the moves. You gotta be careful. I dont even trust the contractors, Even your same family members will brag and boast about you that alone can make you a target. Kingston is fun when you are broke. A lot of bad stuff is going on in Jamaica which doesn’t get reported. l have two elderly aunts in their late 80’s who could write a book about the fate of returning residents. One live in Florida the other in the U.K. they are enjoying their old age. No one could ever encourage them to return to Jamaica they would never have lived to see their old age and they know it. 🙏🏾🇬🇧🇯🇲

It’s really good to receive advice, and has made me think about my conduct in St Lucia as I have a home there. Thanks very much for being frank and transparent . The deaths of returnees is devastating and turns my stomach with fear and anxiety. But your open discussions are brave and help returnees to understand how to better protect ourselves in the Caribbean.

I am talking about getting training and licensing for every adult in the house and having multiple capable fire arms for home defence. In addition, safety is first and proper gun storage is also key. Keep your family safe and be responsible.
