If you were a kid in the 80’s then this knife holds a special place in your heart
lol don't forget about Crocodile Dundee. That's no Knife, That's a Knife.
@REPR100.... Exactly why I just had to get one as an adult.
😎💪👍
@@bevis226.... Yeah, all those great movie-knives. Rambo, Commando, Crocodile Dundee, Predator.... all iconic knives.
2006 kid but still hold a special place in my heart
U ain’t never lied 82 baby I always wanted one
When the first movie came out, my father (who really liked knives) was impressed by the Rambo knife but, he did not like the hollow handle. He felt that the hollow handle would weaken the knife and you could carry all the survival knick-knacks in the sheath. As it happened my mother was a friend of a lady whose husband was a knife maker. So she got a Rambo knife similar to the movie knife but, without the hollow handle. My parents were living in Atkins, AR at the time (I was in the Navy) and the local knife maker was Jimmy Lile who lived the next town over in Russellville. I got that knife after my father passed away and I still have it. I don’t know how valuable it would be since my mother never kept the receipt and it did not come with a fancy case (I don’t think it even had a box), so there is no way to prove the story. It doesn’t really matter that much since I do not plan on selling the knife anyway.
Brother ANY Jimmy Lile original knife would be over 2k if it's in good shape. Jimmy still made Rambo knives I was looking to buy in the late 90s they were 800 bucks then but they have skyrocketed as John said 10 to 12k lol wish I had bought one in my teens haha. Your knife can be authticated by many American Bladesmith Society members including the remaining Lile company. His style was unique and your mother or fathers name may be in a file if Jimmy Lile made your knife before he passed. Good luck to you and keep your blade well oiled and sharp. FYI don't ever store a Lile in its leather sheath as the blade can rust even good stainless can rust when stored in leather. Just wrap it in a rag after wiping it down.
I never liked those trinkets either. Always liked the buck 119 or 120. Sadly they don't make the wood handles anymore. Just plastic and the damn thing slips out of your hand.
I hope your father is having a great time in heaven
No need proof, just keep it. It is more value with this story for you then sell it for cash.
@@dudemcnike1574 so you like buck trinkets instead 😂
Mr. Jimmy helped and encouraged me to start my Knife Making career back in the early 70's.
When I was a kid in the 80's we were at a gun show in the middle of nowhere in a high school gym. Came across a table with some wicked knives. Stuff that was off the wall for the time. It was Lyle. He was so kind to an awe struck question asking kid. Showed me how to sharpen a knife at the table. He was a great guy.
I was in Jimmy Lile' s shop in Russellville AR shortly after he passed
His wife and the staff was keeping the shop going
I think someone bought them out and the old shop is now falling down
They made some beautiful knives
they closed the shop in before 1996 if my memory serve me well
I’ve had the imitation one since I was a child, it was a present from my late father. I actually used it to chop wood like you demonstrated with no issues but I would like to get the full tang version at some point if not horribly expensive. I never knew a legit version was available, but now I’ll keep an eye out for it. Pretty random video but cool and nostalgic for me. Thanks
From what was on the site they are around 2k.
I have 1 that was made in Taiwan. Got it and a Crocodile Dundee knife back in 89 for Christmas. Cheap ass things were made of the softest stainless steel that I've ever seen. Neither of them would take or hold an edge. Pretty sure they came from QVC, I never asked though. Still have them for sentimental reasons but they are useless.
One of the most iconic knives ever made from the mind of one of the most iconic knife makers!!!
a friend of mine have the FB part II stamped "Movie Knife" by Late Jimmy Lile !
@@markhamilton3215 wow that's amazing! A true relic!
Keep up the great content man. You got the best collection of weaponry I've ever seen!
Myself and several guys in my platoon (80’s and 90’s) had various versions of the Rambo knives. lol Thanks for the vid, I’m a big kid too.
I remember they had all three knives in their own glass case at our local mall when I was a kid. Around 90-91. I think they were like 200-300.00 bucks a piece back then. I fell in love with them. 10k now is insane.
"This knife never runs out of ammo..." Jon, you're a trip! =)
The current Lile Knives are made by Vaughn Neeley. He is a master knife maker. They are amazing! The compass is different, the ones Jimmy Lile made are long out of production. Neeleys uses a Nato compass.
The best thing about a Bowie knife, is that it's always loaded.
I'm from the 80s and I grew up watching the Rambo Movies as well, Great Films !!! Nice Knives too !!!
Such a great-looking knife. The cool-factor on it is off the charts because of the Rambo movies. I have the "officially licensed" one from Hollywood Collectibles Group, but now I wanna try to get the Lile one.
😎💪👍
Lile's bowies were cool long before Rambo. The Smithsonian featured his work as did several Presidents. That's why Stallone asked him in the first place. I went to see First Blood solely because I knew Jimmy's work was featured. (Likewise with Gil Hobben, who counted Elvis among his customers.)
My favourite looking knife of all time. Thanks for putting it into use for us to see.
I may get the Rambo machete for hacking down stuff and the mission knife for making sharp sticks and smaller useful camping tools . Thanks again, I'm inspired 👍
HE JUST WANTED SOMETHING TO EAT
That was Rambo 1 lol.
He was only supposed to take pictures
We had a guest at the lodge that would get up every morning at 5AM and play Rambo Last Blood, at full volume, on the main lodge TV.
The first day a few angry faces appeared but nobody said anything to her.
The second day, everyone just got up and had coffee and watched Rambo with her.
By day 3 it became a morning ritual.
They ate my baked goods and had coffee and watched Rambo at dawn.
Things that happen like that can be really fun! Had a neighbor growing up that would watch that movie SixPack every day multiple times a day. I mean every day for like 3 summers straight. Was like what the heck? But it was fun and part of her personality.
Did she show up on the 6 o'clock news at some point??😁😁😁
Great video John, thanks for shining some light on this wonderful piece of movie history. I fell in love with the "Rambo" style survival knives as a kid back in the 1980's. I had 2 or 3 of the flea market/trade day versions with the huge bubble endcap and crapass items inside. Lol. The first knife introduced in the first film of the Rambo Saga, was made by knife maker Gil Hibbins. It is still one of my favorite knife designs of all time. He also made the knife used in Rambo 3 if I'm not mistaken. This one was quite a bit different than the first two movies because it was more of a Bowie style that had sleek flowing lines, rather than the very aggressive look of past two knives. Anyway, the first 3 knives of the series will always hold a special place within me, and my top two would be made by Gil Hibbins. Thanks again John and take care. Cheers
I’ve had a few of those myself…I’ve had one since I was a kid. I remember going and seeing Rambo first blood part 2 at the drive-in
You have a few Jimmy Lile Knives?
Great video! Just out on the hill just chopping some trees with your new knives! Something I don't do often enough 👍😎
I mean, they look fantastic and I have heard that they are extremely well-made.
But for that price they better damn well be.
Vaughn makes some nice knives.... The compass in that Mission knife is a NATO compass, which is slightly different to that of the types used by Jimmy's workers back in the day.... The ones used were out of Vietnam era survival kits. I have a Vietnam era survival kit in both my First Blood and Mission knives. My dear friend Gil Hibben, who is based in LaGrange Kentucky, made the Rambo III, Rambo 4, and some of the Last Blood knives...he's in his mid 80's and is still working hard everyday making knives.... :)
La Grange is close to my neck of the woods in Ky. What's his company called-I'd like to give him some business?
@@mantis-mike5882 Hibben knives.
Yeah, but $2k for a knife with 440-C stainless steel? That's just ridiculous. For that price point, I'd much rather have a Damascus blade, Elmax, or M390. Microtech uses the latter two, and even their knives aren't this ridiculously priced unless you're getting one of their limited collaboration knives.
@@The_Ghost923 You’re paying extra for the movie branding. This is definitely primarily for fans and collectors of the movie rather than someone’s main practical knife.
It’s the same reason I paid $3000 for a Franchi SPAS-12 rather than half that price for a Benelli M4 that’s still in production so it’ll be newer and have a more advanced gas operating system. Because the Benelli M4 wasn’t used in Jurassic Park.
Though you can pay $500 extra for the Cerakote presentation version in CPM 154CM. If I ever get this knife, that’ll be what I get.
@@gameragodzilla And that's what is so great about capitalism! You do you!
Gotta give some respect to a man not afraid to beat up his fancy tools. Thanks.
Appreciate the actual comparison. You saved me the hundred bucks.
Nice knife!!
Reminds me of the Buckmaster seal knife with those aggressive serrations on top of blade.
I like the guy nerding out over that rad Rambo knife
Awesome knife! I've been wanting one but your right they're not cheap hopefully one day I'll b able to spend that on one
Always wanted one.. looks awesome. Congratulations.
I think this is a first in CZcams, never seen anyone use a lile knife out in the field.....
Nice!
I had one of the Gil Hibben replicas, back in the 90s.
I think it was Rambo 2.
Hibben made the Rambo 3 and 4 knife. Jimmy Lile made the Rambo 1 and 2 knife.
I use to drive by Jimmy Liles shop every day on my way to work. Stopped in there every few months to see this knife I wanted really badly (Grey Ghost). I never purchased it, then he passed away and the shop closed. Wish I had bought it...
Thanks for sharing John

I already am a subscriber haha 😂
I usually watch the Shooting vids .
Best on CZcams!!!!!!!!!!!
Hands Down!!
I just purchased my first shotgun.
All because of your video of the Stevens Savage 320 12 gauge with Ghost Rings .
Such an awesome channel brother 🤠🔪🎶
Big fan of rambo series❤️
Greg Wall of Michie, Tennessee makes a high quality replica of the First Blood and Mission 2 knives. They are expensive but still do not cost as much as a Lile/Vaughn Neeley.
Great knife video they look cool the old Rambo movies were the best
Hello
Beautiful Knife
I would like to have like this one, I was born in 73 !!!
Congratulations to have this man !!!
I prefer Arnold's "knife" in the movie Predator 😂
‘Stick around’
I had one when I was a kid and took it to school for show and tell......Way different times then today...😎🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🤟🤙
It's funny that you posted this because just yesterday I started reading First Blood, the original novel... for like the 20th time. That book is definitely in my top ten, so if you haven't read the book you should check it out.
I’ve got one of those licensed copies with the Rambo box, nice knife for a novelty. The genuine Lile mission knife is gorgeous with that mirror polished edge. I like how it’s got the black sharpener vs the brass color on the knock off.. these have always been my favorite action movie knives… the knives from the films “predator” and “commando” are very similar in style (typical 80s survival). It’s a large 80s action version of the “USAF pilot survival knife”
I’m down with these badass knife reviews. Phrobis III next
"What bring you luck, Rambo".....
🤔 🔪
Way back in the 80s when gun shows were epic my uncle used to go religiously and occasionally he’s bring my cousin and I. We were 10-12yrs old and always bought the cheap gun show Rambo knives with the whole survival kit thing in the handles. We’d have them broken by the time we leftLOL
It was pretty great growing up in the 80's wasn't it? I feel sorry for kids these days, they'll never have the fun we did.
@@emanuelroth7960 they don’t even have a clue what they’re missing out on, the 80s were a great time to be a kid
Born in the 80s. Love the knife!
I kept my Navy pilots survival knife when I got out in 1970. The Navy and the Air Force had virtually the same knife but the Navy one was a little shorter due to the harness that was used. Best knife I ever owned. If you get your hands on the original you'll never let it go. The saw teeth on the knife was to be used to cut the cockpit canopy, if need be
During my army days I carried the USAF survival knife because it was so practical in all situations and was not huge to carry on my web gear. Tough as nails.
Love those knives and the Commando Movie knives!
Yup, the T2 knife who can forget that one too
The most iconic knife in the world
Nice that the Lile Version stays strong Even it also is Not a Full Tang, i tought just the steel is better but the grip is the same
The most rad good luck charm.
I just recently decided to make knives, the movie and its knife was one of my big inspirations.
I like Rambo movies. I love Bowie knives.
buying such knives from Coldsteel, Benchmade, SOG and Emerson Knives...
Thank for the Videos.Great Motivation..
“You don't seem to want to accep the fact you're dealing with an expert in guerrilla warfare, with a man who's the best, with guns, with knives, with his bare hands. A man who's been trained to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to eat things that would make a billy goat puke. In Vietnam his job was to dispose of enemy personnel. To kill! Period! Win by atrition. Well Rambo was the best.”~Colonel Trautman
This Knife is one of my favorite
Iconic Of Rambo First Blood Part 2
If anyone wants to have a somewhat similar knife, but hard use and good quality yet not TOO expensive, I suggest having a look at the Tops Steel Eagle.
I have got one the original first blood,Tennessee.
Thats a badass knife, way out of my $ range. I like my SOG seal team elite
I've bought and sold a number of knives, but the knife I've owned the longest by far is my SOG SEAL Knife 2000 S37 with kydex sheath with seat-belt cutter notch. Love that knife. Keep it in the truck at all times. I picked up a new knife last year that is also becoming a favorite: Bradford Guardian 3 in N690 steel.
Looks very cool
Excellent video as usual from you and your dad. Don't suppose you want to swap that Lile for my Swiss army knife. 😁
Interesting video...good work
Cool video man
I had the Rambo 3 bowie in the early 90s. The thing was huge and heavy.
That knife was a monster and bad ass
ColdSteel Trail Master. I have it and love it. A Bowie knife, but not a Rambo knife.
My uncles friend won one at shot showvthe year that movie came out .it had a presentation box. Like 2009/2010 it sold $1600 . They really went up in price.
pretty cool knife john
"Since I have an M60 I figured, well, I gotta have the knife."
I was just looking at those last night how crazy is that
Sweet knife, those are (gut hooks), not used for sawing but you can make shavings to start a fire as needed. I like seeing knives on your channel. Have a great day, it looks beautiful in Tennessee💫
LOL nope. They are for cutting aircraft skin for extraction. Like he says in the video, Lile made them based on the pilots knives of Vietnam. Look it up.
@@rmsg7504 Cool, I'll look it up. Thanks
Greg walls makes the part 1 and part 2 survival knifes the blades can be from 440c stainless steel or D2 tool steel the same steel used to make the first two survival knifes in the rambo series. Jimmy lile only made 12 knifes for Rambo first blood. I plan on getting a rambo first blood survival knife with a blade made from D2 that's as close as you can get to owning a original rambo knife.
Great video John, mean looking knives but for quite a few dollars. Having it to spend I'd probably get a few Glocks 😁
For $2000 for the low end model you can buy 4 new Glocks or 6-8 used ones! Or you can go big and go for the rare Glock 18
Now thats what a real Trooper uses!!!!!
Badass knife John
As soon as I saw that knife and Rambo I knew it was John we have the same kind of taste
I always wanted this knife ever
since I seen the 1st two films.
I have the Rambo lll knife. It's awesome!
Nice too see that you also have and show a Rambo Knife, your Version of 154cpm is 2450 Dollars i just own the Hollywood Collectibles Group of 200 bucks
I’m getting one. Thanks. “NOTHING IS OVER!!”
Good job John
The buck knives “buckmaster” is similar to those and they were awesome
Granted they were pretty cool, but heavy!! I see them on eBay all the time and the rare all black model.
2020 was a strange year . So many zombie's walking around. luckily you didn't need the knife.
@hickok45 how much is the Lile you want to use for your outdoor use? I am seeing +2K is that accurate or am I looking at the wrong sites.
Great knife but the most accurate are made by Steve Viau and Andy Wood. The next best along with Neeley is Daniele Mauro.
I was getting one to use it would be a Greg Wall or Marcos Bluneri
All amazing knives.
So awesome!
That’s awesome. I gotta have one.
Hey John, you need to pick up a Buck 184 if you don't have one in your knife collection. It was their competition to the Rambo knives. They are worth more every day. Ebay is a good place to find them, thanks for the videos.
great knives! they were expensive when they were new!
I have a brand new Buck 184.
@@justinriley8651 Mine was $90 bucks back when they came out, and I see them selling for $700 and up for clean ones. Its just as good as buying a stock, if you take care of them. Plus they are great knife's that hold a good edge and its built like a tank.
Boy I sure would break down a lot of boxes with that lile!
That's a great compass. It's a Francis Barker NATO compass. They're very accurate and very expensive. It's actually better than the one Rambo had in the film.
Nice vid, are you going to sought after a Lile/Neeley Next Generation, First Blood Knife and do a vid since it's the 40th Anniversary this year of the Original Movie.
Very cool
Anyone remember those cheap ass knock-offs with the plastic handle, compass, and "survival" kit?
Had one when I was 12 or 13... and loved it.
Compass was on the outside of the knob. ;)

@@sebastiend.5335 Hello my ancestral compatriate (I'm a Afrikaner South African) - speaking of Dutch - check out Dutch Bushcraft Knives' recent review of these absolutely shitty knives. It's incredibly funny and they are the bes knife reviewers on youtube for sure!
Sure do, still have it. I thought it was a cheap peace of crap back then. But still have it, and sometimes pack it with camping, it may save my life one day. Unless I trust that crappy compass.
I just bought 2 on ebay for practically nothing to add to my collection for fun. they were $10 USD each LOL! Just for the nostalgia. I was too broke in the 70's and 80's to buy one of those even.
@@markgroth4380 not according to the DBK review lol!
So how would you rate the Lile Rambo vs the classic K bar USMC combat knife? I'm a big fan of combat/survival knives, and that Lile is a great looking knife.
Lile knives are the way to go .I have 8 of his knives two made personal by Jimmy himself. Thanks for the video John. Your friend Dan from Jersey, “Defending the 2nd” 🗽🦅🇺🇸👍
More knife reviews please
Schrade makes a one piece hollow handle survival knife that is pretty solid and you can use.
Great Video.
I have one from the late 80’s…..it has no sharpening rod. But has a survival kit in the handle. I bought the latest Rambo movie knife and its so much better made and not cheap looking.
What is the new one called?
It's a nice movie prop. Any field test shows how they fall apart and I would be more inclined to have a Ozark knife from Walmart in any real situation over them. Cool to display though to have.
