I first heard Patrick on PBS years ago and he played songs off this album, I loved it so much that this is the first cassette that I bought of his. Truly beautiful music...

Used Patrick Ball's music for meditation and relaxation music for my third child's birth and it was the most mesmerizing and soothing. In fact so good...I had a Toad's Wild Ride to the hospital with less than 1/2 hour to birth. To this day I listen and can feel relaxed. Something about the harp and Patrick's ease and gentle way. Add the Celtic music...just so magical. I have a harp that I have not played in over 20 years because of grief. Am ready now to give a try.

I had all Patrick Ball’s tapes back in the 80’s. I used to listen to them while driving through Los Angeles traffic. The music brought tremendous beauty to an otherwise unpleasant commute. Such talent. I always felt as though I hear O’Carlolan’s music as it was intended to be heard/played when listening to Patrick Ball’s music.

At about 3:19 in, I keep hearing a rising twang like a feedback effect. Is that natural to the instrument or does the harp have an effects processor, or something of the sort?

Some harps have mechanical pedals kind of like a piano.

No. What you're hearing is both the beauty and curse of wire-strung harps. Wire strings will ring for a long time...sometimes, if not quickly hand dampened, producing conflicting tones with a following passage. The overtones can be amazing at times, annoying (to some) at others.
