- Just installed headers back 2 1/2 inch custom system with Flowmasters super 40's, engine is a new crate GM performance parts 350 with a Comp Cams Thumpr cam and edelbrock performer intake with edelbrock 600 carb.... LOVE THE SOUND!!!
Love the sound, so much I bought the thumpr cam and put on FM super 40s. Thanks for the video and inspiration!
I could listen to that sound all day!god thats sounds good, I cant wait i just orded that cam as the start of my engine build for my little s10,
My dream car.
sounds great
dude this is the best sounding car ive heard with flowmasters, nice job
love that sound!!! my grandpa and I bought a 1972 mustang convertible and I want it to sound like this!
sounds pretty sweet...........
If only the LS could sound like this
Sounds very healthy! Love that distinct Flowmaster sound!
Man you just can't beat flowmaster
Great sounding car!! And by the way thanks i was just looking at that same cam to put in my 71 chevelle, and wanted to know how it was gonna sound. Now i know Thank
QBANBELAIR thanks for the info and just wanted to say nice 57's are not common especially one like yours and it is one sweet ride and sounds awesome. Keep the post of the car coming.
Super Höllen Mega Sound
theres something to be said for this car. its a true slice of classic americana and is a true survivor. badass
Great job, and finally a video with good sound!
sweet....
oh my god thats a sweet sound beautiful bel air! great job
I just followed Comp Cams recommendations on how to break it in (included in shipping box), make sure you put assemb lube generously on all lobes and contact surfaces and change oil and filter after proper break in. Hope it helps, Mike
yeah i feel ya man,i was just saying, know what i mean? i just think it sounds good, but your right, it aint exactly thumping like you would expect it to
This 57 sounds badass wish mine sounded like that
@tpooleATL its because its loadin up with gas at the light try going to a performance coil and the brakes wont work because that big cam dont pull alot of vaccum
BAD ASS !
I put this on loop and cranked my speakers.
Sounds awesome. this is what i link to in the forums when someone is asking about thumpr cams. I run the big mutha thumpr in my car and love it.
Maybe rubber mount the fuel pump so you can't hear and feel it doing its job. Love the way this car counts em off!
Sounds like you know your stuff. The crate is actually a 1990 engine, but you are right about he heads and dished pistons, not sure about how many ccs but I know they're dished. As far as compression it's rated at 8:75, still low for my standards but I take that for now, it came like that and I did not wanted to mess with it. I will get aluminum heads later though. Would you say I can get much more juice out of the engine replacing heads and keeping dished pistons? It's will be just a cruiser
super sick sound i got a 350 4 bolt main i want to make rumble like that im gonna put a x-pipe and flowmasters under it it already had 327 heads on itnut this cam sounds like it would be right at home with it
that thing sounds beautiful..
My dad used to have a '57 Deal Ray. Beautiful car:)
sounds sick. just put one in my bb 460. just dyno'd it . catn wait to get it in the car.
sounds awesome
Ok thanks man, i went ahead and got the mutha thumpr. I just need to find an engine hoist and I'll get to work on installing it, I'll be sure to post a video of it
@SMiller5488 that sounds more like the thumper cam i have a mother thumpr in my truck. and it sounds different.
Awesome car! There are few things as cool as a tri-5 chevy. Nothing beats the sound of a thumping small-block either. lol
if you read the description it says 350
i would want to have it like all the other comments but i have one lol ....... very nice in good nik
GD thats sounds so good. would like to hear it on a launch form behind. please make another vid
Ahh, I miss those days!
I should have went with that cam when I did my rebuild.....nice car!
Awesome!
damn that sounds nice
57s are too common.. i have a 56 bel-air currently being restored.. im 16 so its a very very slow process. its got a v8 350.. i like small blocks.. never cared for big blocks.. i plan on putting dome pistons.. 14:1 compression and a flowmaster 40.. i like to hear the power of my car while im drivin it..
very nice car but it's a shame that there are a set of flowmasters disgracing it put a set of magnaflows or pypes on this beaut
Drool..... how can I make this a ringtone?!?
Flowmasters are just before the rear end, all the way in the back, thanks fr watching, Mike
You are guessing right, true dual 2 1/2 inches front to back, no crossover. Mufflers are right before the rear end where exhaust pipes bend and go over rear. Hope it helps, good luck and thanks for watching.
I know you appreciate the sound with no crossover, H or X, I like you like the sound like this. I especially dislike an X crossover. I know what it does for horsepower, but building a hot rod is about making the owner happy. Have fun with it!
Vacum and power brakes are ok so far. Thanks for watching, Mike
Headers are patriot tri5s, 3/4 lenght, ceramic coated, thanks for watching, Mike
I' m in Central NJ but visited my friend in Pilesgrove not too long ago, first long drive for the car...
My engine is all stock, did not change springs. You need to check specs for yours before you pick your cam, some of these need bigger springs, thanks for looking, Mike
lets hear you rev it up a little...
you can get the thumper cams from lunati mostly a 5k sometimes a little higher cam they just use lots of overlap etc but to me why have the sound if it doesn't run hard,, i have a comp roller that has a 298 dur, 246 at 50 109 c/l 598 lift. and sounds as good as it runs,, pulls like a bastard at 3-8k i shift at 7400
sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!!!!!!!!!
@MrAss707 if its a HEI distributor its the ignition module
simple top check with a light tester on the tach spot have someone crank the engine and it should flash if it doesnt its the module
COMP Cams CL12-600-4 is the part number, Thanks for watching, Mike
Definitely a ground pounder! ! ! If only a zz4would come from the factory with a cam like that. lol
Yes that sound is there, but with these super 40's the interior is much quieter than with the original 40's. As far as the thumper cam, I used part number COMP Cams CL12-600-4, it's the milder cam from the Thumpr series, but you still get great performance and a awesome thumping sound. My engine is a 4 bolt 350 crate motor, I think the compression is 8.75:1, not sure though. I was never aware of that requirement to use that cam (9:1 compression), my engine still runs sweet and pulls really hard
14:1 is in no way streetable. And yeah guys, a 14:1 motor WILL make more power than a 10:1 motor with the same parts; higher compression means more air in a smaller combustion area, which boils down to a more volitile explosion. not only that, but when you've got a big cam with alot of overlap, you lose cylinder pressure. the 14:1 motor will help to recupe that loss caused from valve overlap.
alright...well its just that the cam thats in it is supposed to have an even rougher idle with out negatively affecting performance, thats why i said it didn't sound special to me, to me it just sounds like your average V8 with good exhaust and a larger than stock cam...to me thats nothing out of the ordinary...in other words im not sold on a thumper cam
nice!
Idle is a nice thumping sound, wouldn't call it rough but it sounds great, turns a lot of heads and I get a lot of compliments and thumbs up. Watch the video of my friend driving it, it's idling there, just go to my videos and you'll hear it there. Thanks for watching, Mike
good tip
Wow, that sounds nasty! Bet it moves.
very nice
I just purchased this cam....any tips on break in?
what's it idling at?..
sounds a lot more choppy than i'd think for being the smallest one.
is that a hydraulic flat tappet or a hydraulic roller? like the sound!!
that fuel pump is really loud... what i did on mine i got an old tire cut out a rectangle and put it between the frame and the pump... or whereever you have it. it will quiet it down some.
And guess what, his motor runs off pump gas. He uses an F3 procharger, and is probably running 7.5:1 or 8:1 CR at the most. He takes the blower belt off on the street, jets the carb down 10 sizes, and runs the C-16 gas out of the car, and fills back up with PUMP GAS. That is a street car, but still, my statement remains, if it doesn't run off pump gas, it isn't a street car.
Yeah, sometimes its nice to have a little more of a tame cam, especially in a street machine. Hot cams make horsepower though, and lots of it!
I have an 87 Monte Carlo SS with a 350 and im about to put this cam in it. How rough is it at idle when you're sitting in?
if you mount it with a piece of old tire rubber between the pump bracket and the frame (or wherever you have it mounted) it will quiet it down some. I have a holley blue fuel pump and its not that noisy anymore.
@reyescarrillo o and i plan to run straight pipe with the flowmasters, no cat. thanks
Flat tapped, thanks for watching... Mike
This video is the reason I went with the thumpr cam. Our set up is pretty close to the same except for heads and I'm still running a stock converter. Check out my videos and tell me what you think. Got to love that thumping sound!
Hey I finally got the cam put in my Monte, have you had any problems with it idling after its warmed up? Mine runs fine but stalls out at stop signs or red lights if i dont keep my foot on the gas a little and my power brakes will go out untill i get back up to speed.
Nice...
350 with 3:08 gears. I need a converter, do you like the one you are running? Stock works fine but I could use a stall
Hey, no idling problems after is warmed up. I do have the same issue as you when at stop signs or red lights, mine wont stall but idles really low and I have to keep my foot on the gas just a hair. Power brakes don't go out on mine. I haven't had time for a fine tune session, right now it's very close to being tuned but I know maybe it's not there yet, I'm thinking maybe that's the cause and it will go away after that. Let me know what else you find out, thanks, Mike
you say its a crate motor so do you mean its stock? if so what size cam is that and did you have to replace the springs? im wanting a thumpr cam for my 1990 chevy 350/700r4. i just got done putting 2 1/2 true dual 40's no cats
hey man very nice sound whats cam part number or size so i can find one im building a 61 chevy apache 10 pick/up any help would be great thanks great car man sweet ride
@killaskillz52 You wore the lobes off the cam in 30 min of run time? Yikes. Sounds like you didn't do the procedural steps to break the cam in. Probably why you didnt like the performance, lol. You need a good moly-based assembly lube on all the cam journals, lobes, and lifters. Then you need to top the engine off with a high zinc break-in oil, like Comp Cams makes After that, make sure your lifter pre-load is spot on, and the engine is ready to run 2500rpm for at least 20 min no less or else...
that means as much as "sounds awesome as hell" ;-)
i got a question, do u have that real tinyn sound inside the car, cause i got a 80 el camino and im building a 350 4 bolt and i wanna make sure i get that sound, i know i have to have 9.1 compression to run a thumpr cam so any advice would help
@meshuggah6pantera oo dunno man i think you have to port the stock heads, bigger crank, pistons etc. but hey i dunno im just guessing.
which thumpr cam is this???
Move the blooming thing !!
ive looked through the comments, and have been wondering was lift and duration it is. i have the same engine you do, same carb..etc. thanks and beautiful sounding.looking car
omg! i want it =D
what do you mean, like you wouldn't be able to hear the cam? not true at all, i've run open headers on my truck while i was welding up my exhaust and i could still hear the cam and i only have a Lunati Voodoo idle-5000rpm cam
Why would you run 14:1 when you can pull just as much power from a 10:1 and run pump gas? I'm running closed chamber Boss 351 Cleveland heads on my small block 302 which just the head and intake alone push my small block to 480HP at 11:1 compression, thats not counting my cam and headers...
JUICE IT!!!!!!!!
@vdawn36 Figure out your compression, sounds to me like it is a bit low for a performance cam. You need about 10:1 to make it work good. I used .125 dome pistons on my open chamber heads to get 9.8:1. Check out my video of the 55 with a comparable lunati grind.
i wish i owned a 57 chevy bel air. its my dream car but they are so hard to find where i live and if i do find one its to expensive
Hey I nerd a little help. I got the same cam as u do. But I don't know if I need springs or not. I have a goodwrench 350 260 hp with 350ft tq. Do I need springs.
I heard this car running, and told the wife to get off me, I hear a cam!!
14:1 compression are you kidding, thats a 10k motor right there ull have to run like 110 octane maybe 113 on that...thats a race motor not a street motor try something like 9.5:1.
Are you running the Thumpr or mother thumper or which cam?
i have a chevy 350 block numbered 3970010 being prepped for my car, installing a aftermarket endurashine intake, thumper cam from summitracing, and undecided if im going holley or edelbrock but defenitely going 600. plan to go 2 1/2 inches on shorty headers dual exhaust and using super 40s mufflers.will this give me the sound yours makes? o and its going in a 59 impala 2 door hardtop, so does placing mufflers in certain spots along the exhaust pipe make it sound better? thanks, reyes.
ha!
