- me trying to juggle work, social life, sleep, hobbies, and mental health... sometimes work drains me so much I'm left with no motivation to do anything else, but it's important to learn how to take mental and physical breaks and rejuvenate!

for me as a first year analyst we were told to not make any plans for the weekdays you essentially have to be on call all the time and Fridays and Saturdays are the prime time for you to see your friends.
so yeah I had about one to two hours to enjoy the sunset and then it was Back to Reality time for me to get back to work I got home and logged right back on and answered all the emails that I missed but I felt a lot more refreshed after the picnic break that I took
most days you're not going to have the luxury of finding time for your friends but when that time does come you better take it
so to all of the new first-year investment bankers or college students looking to go into banking remember if you ever feel overwhelmed or stressed you're not alone it's so easy to feel the Imposter syndrome in this industry and feel like no one else is going through it and everyone has their [ __ ] together but that's not true like trust me everyone is going through it and everyone is trust some people are just better at hiding it"

Why are some of these comments so rude? Anyway, I’m an economics student looking to get into IB when I graduate, thank you for the transparency without glossing over the hard parts or portraying as this glamorous career some people think it is. I really appreciate your content!
To answer your question, IB is full of toxicity, so you're gonna attract rude people. IB is also viewed pretty negatively in society because it's not participating in society in an ethical positive way, and people feel a need to judge that.

Whoever says sitting in front of a desk for 12 hours is not that hard is yet to experience the professional service industry 😂
12 hours is nothing, more like 18 hours at least six days a week with a gun to your head the whole time.
word ive done that for a year, start to get eye strain, cubital tunnel, backpain, etc.
ive worked a desk job and ive worked fast food and I prefer fast food 100% other than the pay
I work in healthcare and while I’m sure the pay is much nicer at desk job, my adhd brain couldn’t handle it. My hubbys a lawyer and has to read medical records all day long, I couldn’t, there’s no way lol 😂
I went from a more physically demanding job to a desk job and I only with 8 hours a day and it can be mentally exhausting! It's still stressful, it's just a different type of stress.

Appreciate the video. It's interesting to hear "first hand" how much work you can end up working as an investment banker.
Do you see yourself making a career in investming banking long-term or is this more of a grind to get experience, before jumping into something else?

Very good video. It is one of the most demanding professions, but also the most highly paid jobs especially to be able to love in NYC. The long hours probably don't allow for much downtime. I respect you alot for being able to work in this industry. It must be difficult to recruit for investment banking firms given the long hours and demands of the job and staying on top of it all. With demands or costs even of daily life in an ever tech advancing world it is difficult to find a balance between personal life and work. I regret not buckling down in my 20s qualification wise to prepare for good career prospects. Anyway, I like your videos, you seem really cool and down to earth, Definitely not a stereotype investment banker🙂

Just wondering if you’re in the investment banker role (like making a pitch deck and presenting a cim) and not like investment management or something. Currently I’m trying to get into an investment banking role myself.
Yep investment banking - so pitches, M&As, IPOs, restructure deals, etc :)
What kind of IB allows you to do these kind of videos, even in your personal time?
@@jlinsy lots of people post videos like this, they just aren't allowed to give confidential information, or even the name of the bank they currently work at from what i've seen
It’s crazy cause getting these jobs is extremely difficult but then the actual work is very doable just a matter of skill + will. Ideally, you’d wake up at 4 am and clock out by 8 pm (with your little coffee + meal breaks in between). Not 8:30 and work through midnight. Those things you’re staying up for can be addressed next day at 5:30 am (after you’ve woken up, gotten ready and are on your way to the office). It’s an old person schedule but it works. Then Friday evening - Sunday afternoon is yours.
Turn on the lights around you. I found that having my only source of light being my computer is not a good idea.

@@angies_listt is it because of the facetime culture in IB? And do you think that culture is similar across all countries?
@@kevinjuan9493 I think it’s the traditional mindset that is still pretty rooted in the banking industry, (unfortunately facetime is still a thing) where people expect analysts to have no social life and suffer/ grind for a year or two before you can have more flexibility. I can’t really speak for all countries, but maybe it is more lenient in geographies outside of NY specifically ?

Yah, that's how people don't become homeless. You know, if she played her cards right she could have pivoted to a less demanding job, making good money and basically doing coast fire instead of what you suggest.
is investment banking great? Im about to go into gr 12 but im still uncertain about my career choice. I know I do love the world of business and finance so im wondering if investment banking is actually a great job or deemed boring
if you can live with staring at a computer for most of the day. But it takes a certain type of person. It's not fun or enjoyable in the slightest. Corporate America is hell. And burnout is REAL. But again, some people really thrive in this type of setting. You have time to think about this stuff at least and every career has its downsides. But it's easy to get trapped in corporate and devote so much of your life to a company that hardly considers you an actual person.
Agree with Ray! I think every job has the potential of making you burnt out, but learning to balance it with more valuable things in life will help!
Now in terms of career, it’s perfectly normal to be uncertain especially if you’ve never experienced it. That’s why do as many internships as you can while you’re still in college! These will give you a small taste of what you may or may not like. There are many other fields within finance and business that isn’t investment banking so do your research and network around and figure out why you love business / finance and find the career that provides most of the aspects that you are looking for. (You figure this out through internship/ club experience, or networking, watching videos, etc etc) good luck! 🫶

@@user-wr3ke7ek7e i work in IB and believe me or not when i tell you most people do just fine if they aren’t greedy and ego chasers and respect themselves enough to ignore when it is causing harm to them.
most people i know just want to have enough money for a nice, comfortable life and are willing to sacrifice some things up to a reasonable point

This job is usually temporary to move up into an even better job that'll pay a lot with less demand on time. A horrible life would be giving into indulgences to the point future you has to live off of other's income.
