    Man, I wish CZcams was around when I was learning to juggle. I think I learned Mill's Mess the hard way. I already knew how to outside juggle, which seems to be part of the trick. Next I learned how to juggle with my arms crossed. Then, like Gary Larson said "A miracle occurs" and I could do mill's mess by swapping arms that are crossed.

    Every ball changes hands with every throw. This is true of regular cascade and reverse cascade as well, so the siteswap notation is the same for all three patterns (3).

    Man this was my favorite video when I was just starting out. Props to this guy’s tutorial! It allowed me to master the mills back in the day. Been juggling ever since and this was a major milestone in my improvements.

    I'm not sure what you mean by rallenty. I can make the slow motion smooth because I recorded it at 300 frames per second with a Casio EX-F1. I used Sony Vegas to edit the video.

  • @ashomsky
    @ashomsky  Před 15 lety +1

    You were pretty much right on the money. I shot this with a Casio EX-F1 at 300 frames per second. The video normally plays back at 1/10 real speed, so to get normal speed I just speed the video up 10x. I edited it with Sony Vegas.

    This helped me - nailed the throwing pattern just now, took some 30 minutes for the first success. Those up-direction indicators really helped understanding what`s going on, what should I do, where to put hands. And, of course, slow-mo. Big thanks!

    The files that the camera produces automatically play back at 1/10 speed. If you want them to play in real-time, you have to speed them up 10x. So I use video editing software to do that. I used Sony Vegas Pro to edit this video.

    Great, I learnt to do this trick in about 30 mins or something, nice vid. A tip to others - once you try to do the full pattern, notice that the ball you grab and move across to the other side is the same ball every time. Follow it in the video. I was leaving an extra beat in there.

    mills mess is the kind of trick i never had to "learn". initially i thought it was just the same basic tosses and catches you use in other simple stuff like cascade/reverse cascade and then there's that under-hand throw. i was quite surprised to find out this is considered real fine juggling and tends to impress people.

    @TheJonnij I did something similar. I learned mills mess as shown in the video and then I saw a tutorial that looked different from what I was doing. So I was trying to re-learn it using the steps in the tutorial and after a while I figured out that I already knew how to do the pattern. It's funny how you can juggle a pattern but then you have to really practice to juggle only a subset of it.

  • @FLESKFIST
    @FLESKFIST Před 14 lety

    Yes that was indeed easy to fix. What I did before was i simply started from the cascade and directly did an under arm throw. What you're suppose to do is, right before you do the under arm throw you do a "over throw" as if you were gonna do the normal cascade backwards. You show us this in the tutorial with "straight up". I somehow missed that no matter how clear you made it. This might help someone else that learned it the wrong way at first.

    @TheJonnij yeah i did pretty much the same as you. except i didn't think it was continuous under the arm throws. i'd seen someone doing mills, without knowing that it was mills, and i thought, "right, juggle, but keeping crossing + uncrossing arms" only later did i realise.
    mills mess isn't continuous under-the-arms, that is chops

    It turns out I've been doing Mill's Mess the wrong way for a while. It was easy to switch but I was surprised, the way I'd been doing it moved the balls in the same pattern...
    My way of doing it doesn't use any reverse throws (i.e. left hand throwing to the left) from the hand which is crossed over- it's sort of like two windmills together...
