Kerry Norington I agree, there is a genuine condition where you believe you’re severely ill. It’s a scary situation for family and people around them because they don’t know how to help. It’s amazing they’re bringing this into their narratives.

They do it because it's the only way to get attention from people. They tell the lie so much that in their own sick warped mind they think it's the truth. My Grandfather "Cried Wolf" many years ago. He lead everyone to think he was dying of Cancer, they were upset crying hysterical, they were pre-preparing funeral plans, his estate and all of that, then My Uncle takes him to The Doctor and the Doctor says "He doesn't have Cancer, he's sick because he hasn't been eating properly". Needless to say My Uncle went ballistic on him, he admitted he did it because he liked the attention, he felt that was the only way any of his children would pay any attention to him and spend time with him. He had a hard time accepting the fact that they weren't always available to take care of him what with their jobs and the like.

My theory is that she has Munchausen's by proxy.
Munchausen's by Proxy is when someone hurts someone else in order to gain attention for themselves. I think Maxine does have Munchausen's Syndrome though - faking or causing illness in oneself to get attention or sympathy. Hope it doesn't escalate to her claiming Minnie is ill, too.

I don't think it was a boring storyline, it happens for years with some people. Plus I don't think i've ever seen a soap displaying this type of mental health issue in such an understanding and interesting way.
