- Just wanted to go back and touch on one of the last Backer playtests that @KoboldPress did for Tales of the Valiant! This was covered their version of the Bard and Warlock as well as new class, the Mechanist, which is their take on the Artificer. This Bard is one of my favorite updates!
Thanks for watching!

I really wish they hadn't decided to paywall the playtest packets. On the forums I'm on, discussion of ToV essentially dried up once they did that.
Just wanna point out, the 5e Pact of the Chain does actually have a Fey familiar option in the form of the *Sprite.* Blink Dog is way cooler though.
We still haven't seen a Monk class in their documentation for playtesting?
it still a mistery and suprise, in the discord chat of TOV there is a wild discusion
8:20 made my heart melt, my 6 yr old is exactly like this!! 😂
I love the bard changes too, I wish we had a few more performances but like you said that can come from new subclasses. I wish lore had one too. The battle match is awesome!
The mechanist I think is a better take on artificer, it just needs more damage, maybe extra attack or something. And the armor subclass needs more, but The imdues are cool imo. Also it can be used so creatively (like shrinking an anvil, getting it above an enemy and then undoing the imbue to drop an anvil on their head).
Warlock is good but i liked pact casting. The rest of it is just a improvement
I'm glad to hear you agree with me on the orc, I had people argue with me on it.
- The first ability is niche,
- sharp sense is strong AF for a linage and I personally don't like permanent advantage as a feature
- Stalwart is so useful to avoid any consequences from ongoing effects
Sydereans are kind of lame imo. It's kinda weak
Hearing TotV is just getting sad at this point. They rushed it to fill a gap they thought D&D was going to leave, and now that it's still here, it just comes off as the Walmart version of what Pathfinder did
WotC truly checkmated TotV with making 5e CC.
@@MagiofAsura Same with Critical Role's Dagger Heart system. The only thing keeping CR out of TotV's sinking ship is the fact that their die hard fanboys will buy everything twice if Mercer asks them too.
I still it’s it’s good they are going through with this though, it’s good for them if wotc tries to pull another ogl scandal
It seems that it is cutting room floor scraps that D&D left.
I like the Mechanist class, Artificer are great and I do have a Gnome Alchemist I love but this would make me want yo go the magical machine route

That is pretty powerful for a level 1 feature.
It is basically an improved Identify, that is spammable like a cantrip, you don't have to actually cast it, and it uses only an action.
Edit: 19:50
I would switch the terms "object" and "item" with their given definitions. It just seems to me that "object" should be the umbrella term, and "item" is the more specific term.
With the warlock I would've given a choice between three cantrips, eldritch blast being one of them. Then make sure there are a number of Invocations specific to each spell (the Eldritch Blast already provided). I homebrewed a few for Minor Illusion, focusing on expanding the versatility of the spell. Maybe Mend could be the third, with Invocations that allow for out-of-combat healing, granting temporary hit points on the fly, and enhanced repair options.
I would prefer this approach, as being forced to use Eldritch Blast seems like it limits how players can play their warlock. It's kind of like forcing all fighters to only use a sword, even if that sword is pretty damn cool; it just comes off as holding back the class's potential.
Hey Ted, the kickstar for The GM guide for TOV is out . Can you make a video on this topic i'm curious on your thought about it.😁
Video just needs to be edited
I love how he kept correcting himself that he did not infact actually one shot it but it was rather a two shot. 😅
It would have been nice for them to release some information for sorcerer, barbarian, monk and paladin.
Will spell circle not get confusing with Druid Circles? Or did they rename druid subclasses?
They did not rename druid subclasses, but I don't think having two types of circles, with one type being only for one class, is nearly as confusing as differentiating character level, class level and spell level, which is something every spellcasting class had to deal with.

I'm a backer but cant find this play test on the kickstart page
It's part of Update #20 from August 18, 2023.
The warlock spellcasting got a serious nerf compared with the source.
My son is the same way. How great!
How are we all feeling about TOV?
I'll be happy to mix in anything particularly fun to my 5e games
@@PsyrenXY I’ve felt pretty ok about it, I did preorder my copies through kickstarter (the deluxe kit+foundryvtt)
I didn't back the Kickstarter and I have only seen up to the Alpha Release. I wait until books are out to buy them. Kobold Press makes mistakes quite often in their playtests then complain when people point them out. So should I mention that the Warlock table listed here does not have cantrips listed? I don't even know if this is intentional or another oversight. This is also just a ripoff of the Playtest 5 Warlock that was later abandoned by Wizards.
My last impression of it was that it was a half baked concept. I really am hoping for better from them. But even Onednd playtest was feeling a lot fresher and more interesting than theirs.
I am looking forward to it..and I also look forward to the Game Master’s Guide..
