- My attempt to upscale, interpolate and resize the intro to Battlezone II: Combat Commander. I think it turned out pretty well, especially the outer space sequences, still some artifacts on the Pluto scenes that I couldn't get rid of. Original was 320x240 at 15FPS. Upscaled and resized to 1920x1080 at 60FPS.

Would be amazing to get the original models and sequences to be able to re-render the intro properly but unfortunately that seems to have been lost to time. There are fragments of intro models remaining but too incomplete to be of much help.
One of the best intros in history of gaming!
Unbelievable. It's like how my child eyes were seeing that 320x240 footage back in the day. This refined look is how I would remember the original blurry footage, only now it has come to life

Was looking up old BZ2 videos and came across this again such a great piece of work! Think it would be possible to do it with the FE video?
I had tried that however achieved much poorer results with the upscaling, the interpolation worked out ok though. What I would really like to do is train the upscaling software on BZ images so it can optimize them much better but simply havent got around to it yet. Would be awesome though!
Excellent work! I'm so surprised that THIS diamond have been done from 240p quality! From 15 fps to 60!!! AI in our time is incredible. Used Topaz, though?
Thanks! Yeah Topaz for upscaling and RIFE for interpolation. Still more improvements to be made if the AI was trained on Battlezone images specifically but only so much that can be done with the low resolution source material. I wish the source files were available to properly re-render but have to make do with what weve got:)
@@battlezoneforever Those source files were probably discarded over 2 decades ago.
Nice job on the upscaling & framerate. But one thing you can additionally do is to correct the aspect ratio back to 4: 3, as you can see everything looks vertically squished, because it is at 16: 9 anamorphic 1080. I mean, if you have to, you can put in black side bars to make it 1920x1440, if CZcams is going to squish it. Yes, as far as I recall, unfortunately the original intro (before it was scaled to 320) is lost to time. I can't recall what Nathan Mates said 2 decades ago, but I think he said that even Carey Chico probably has no idea what happened to those files. But it wouldn't be a surprise if someone that used to work on it at Pandemic/Activision or a subcon still has it somewhere on a harddrive resting lost in a closet for that long, heh.
