My grandfather was in the 8th Air Force. He was a pilot and he flew this glorious aircraft and took part in over 10 missions over the western front. It puts a tear to my eye when hearing those thunderous props fire up. Reminds me of my grandpa so much. These B-17’s really have spirit. These baby’s scream life. They are truly living things in my eyes!

The sound in this vid is pure heaven. The sound of the starter and the mesh was caught very well on the start of Engine 2. I could replay that over and over again. And I had my earphones on and full volume as the other engines were fired up. Could feel the vibrations in my head. Made me feel like I was there. There is no sweeter sound than a B-17 starting up. Good Lord... I'm watching "Masters of the Air" [released today] and I came here to check the B-17 engine sound because I knew it was wrong, too soft and blend in the movie. In this video right here, the engine sound, with squeaks and knocks and thunder, warms my heart. It is so good (I used to travel in DC3s and Electras in my youth). Why these producers don't do some research before spoiling the movie? Damn.

What an incredible aeroplane! If only NineONine can be restored from its leftovers following that bad crash....

Like everyone else, I love those sounds. I even went to aeronautical school for radial engines (A&P Mechanics at Spartan in Tulsa as it was one of 3 that offered radial mechanics) I did not finish, so want to ask others, why not start #3 first, to start the hydraulics, which I have heard was the first engine to start. Maybe it does not matter, but I have seen many start #3 first and that is consistent with what I know. Just curious. p.s. when I get in a bummed mood, listening to these radials start, makes me happy, so in no way am I putting down, just curious.

GTA V Decoders The smoke is from oil burning off in the cylinders. Not a single airplane has a cat because it chokes up and robs power, you need ever ounce you can get. With the government removing 110 and 130 octane low lead av gas due to elad content (even though its minimal) these engines run terrible (in comparison) already. No need to make it worse. If you want rediculous rules... Move to California.
