  • Blocking a piston to remove an onboard sprocket can be an awkward job. On some saws you can use an impact driver to quickly spin the sprocket off.

And it will self-tighten (while operating) past that quicken CCW impact .. no need to fuss. There are commonly bundled kits for bar/chain/sprocket now for this great little saw!

I was going to put string in the cylinder to turn the sprocket like other tutorials show. Then I saw this. Worked great with my impact driver...saved me work..thanks

Why does it only work with impact driver but not an ordinary drill? I tried with a fast drill but it was doing absolutely nothing.

@@sempi8159 Not that I have seen but if you use the "string" method you should be able to do it with a hand socket ratchet.

Nope that's the great thing about this method - no messing about with a piston stop. The impact driver 'shocks' it off.

No it doesn't - sprockets from one make of manufacturer do not tend to fit others 99 times out of 100.

We have done hundreds of these - never had one stuck so you are either very unlucky or doing it incorrectly. You are using an impact drive yes? And you are turning anti clockwise to take off [not clockwise which tightens it]?
