This is such a chronic illness anthem. I'm chronically ill and this one got me hard, on bad pain days i often think ' i hate it here'. Such a beautiful way to represent that feeling of going somewhere beautiful in your mind when you're in any type of pain.
Never even thought of that but makes sense. I also have chronic pain & my body likes to torture me.
@@Kirsty_McKay This and Prophecy from this album both hit me immediately as a chronically ill person. My condition is genetic and my sister and several cousins are disabled too. I often feel my prophecy is cursed and beg to no one for it to be changed. Taylor's mental anguish so beautifully explained my physical anguish. (I often jokingly sing "I can do it with a broken jaw!" since I'm recovering from jaw reconstruction surgery)
This song hit me hard. I see it as a song about depression and maybe being stuck in a small town, but it also spoke to me on an avid reader level. Like, I love books because they’re an escape from the hard or boring parts of real life. (“I’ll save my romanticism for my inner life. And I’ll get lost on purpose…”) And Taylor is also a big reader.
Enjoying your comments on each song (not stalking I promise!)
I'm thinking about her discussion with Jack prior to the song 'This Is Me Trying' about mental illness/addiction.
Taylor's mind is like a sponge. Always ready to soak it all up.
I feel like her escape takes her to a world of poetry, books and her music.
My understanding is that it’s just about her complicated relationship with her own escapism.
I agree with this idea. I also think she is saying that she metaphorically hates the space she was in in her life at the time she was grieving Joe, and then dealing with the FK ton of trauma that Matty put on her.
I think she's also saying at a more figurative level that people think it's romantic to be unhappy, but she is over that now and just wants to stop romanticising the past (hers or the past in general) and be happy in the place and time she finds herself in.
The use of the word worthless was the biggest gut punch on this album for me. What worse feeling could an honest person have. Brutal.
I relate to this song too much… i interpret it as a depression period that everyone gets and how we escape from it ie imagining things or getting lost in our mind
I think its about writting folklore during the lockdown...
I understood it as, although she was deeply unhappy in her external life, she always felt safe in her mind. She recognized even in childhood games choosing a different time to live, she was deeply aware that real life struggles still exist elsewhere, and her safety is always within?
I have enjoyed every single reaction so far, but this one and So High School were two of my favorites you've done on this album thus far!! Love your work!!
Aaron is the my favorite composer to produce with her, it just hits every time
Travis Kelce is an All Pro Football player for the KC Chiefs and just won the Super Bowl and is Taylor’s boyfriend of about 8 months. For those who have followed their story (every Taylor Fan) this is a total love letter to him. Every line in the song relates to specific events. For example there is an old video of a Travis interview where Marry/Kiss/Kill was played. You play ball/ Aristotle relates to his football and her poetry book smarts.
wrong song hehe
@@krystal_senem I think a video that covered more than one song got split up.
Oh lord, So High School is only definite skip of the entire 31 songs 🙈 I can't stand it 😂😭
I hit my teenage years in 2000 on the dot. I grew up LOVING (and still do) pop punk like Blink 182, Greenday, Sun 41, Good Charlotte, etc.
So High School had the theme down perfectly. The lyrics are great and nostalgic with just the right amount of cute/corny...
I actually get physically angry when I hear that chorus. That 1 - 6 back and forth melody is SO BAD. It is so incredibly annoying to me.
And it's an interval I actually love as it's the opening of the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto motif (I grew up memorising my intervals according to a favourite song/motif, etc.). So this song killing that interval for me is just extra annoying 😂
So your not a Swifty. The song told me they're getting engaged in Paris.
@@teresagormley903 ...no...I'm not a Swifty. Even Taylor thinks fans like you are so toxic that she wrote an entire song to you telling you not to be toxic.
I LOVE most of her music. I deeply admire her as a person. I genuinely hope she finds the lasting love she is looking for.
I'm not some creep who thinks that speculating on her life is a sport or makes anyone love her music more or less.
Grow up. Go outside sometime. Stop being this level of inappropriate. Taylor hates it. And if those clues weren't blatantly obvious to you, you might want to stop only finding the clues that fit your weird take on someone who you don't knows' life 🤷
Well, this is basically a love letter to her boyfriend who is an All Star 3 Super Bowl winning player - hence the theme. Every lyric in it is taken from real events. So, you don’t have to like the song but you should also know that the song you reference But Daddy I Love Him actually relates to Travis at the end where she turns the tables talks about him when she says her father loves him. Now after your toxic response above, yesterday the revamped tour started up again and But daddy I love him was added with So High School abbreviated version to end the song. She was at a very low point last year when she met Travis and with him she’s basically saying that he makes her feel this way again.
@@terrybanet3330 if you actually read my whole comment, you will see that I am very happy with the lyrics and the metaphor and I love her love and I'm happy with most of the sound. The chorus uses a 1-6 jump back and forth that doesn't work for me at all.
Dearie. I didn't have a toxic response. Grow the FK up. Justifying why you don't like a specific part of a song is healthy critique. Pretending everything your favourite person does is toxic AF. She's a human being. You are belittling her and condescending to her if you try to act like everything she does is perfection. If it was, we wouldn't know how impeccable her good work actually is.
I actually did also think from the beginning that But Daddy I Love Him was about Travis for the same reason you mentioned.
Especially because her lyrics in I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can), The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived, etc., makes it very clear that Matty has serious faults she definitely wasn't willing to overlook.
Learn how to have an adult conversation. Read what the other person has actually said. Don't make silly accusations.
Because other wise, many of our opinions overlap 🤷
@@emmavink I was responding to you saying even Taylor says fans like you are toxic. I am well aware of what she was saying in But Daddy I Love Him about toxic fans. So High School is her most blatantly obvious song where you don’t need to look for any hidden clues to interpret or any deep metaphors as there is literally a video or an article that talks about pretty much every lyric in the song. I mean look at the new revamped tour where there is a snippet of this song every movement and gesture in the choreography for Taylor and the dancers was something Travis did on the field, Taylor did in the suite, Pat Mahomes from the sideline all caught on video. The only really deep thought needed for the song is that he makes her feel like young love again. So to conclude, there wasn’t a toxic person commenting in a toxic way. P.s. calling me dearie is rude.
