How To Craft a Milanese Bracelet Or Any Types of Chains

- Hello to all,
In today’s video we had the great opportunity of visiting the pretty surprising workshop of Laurent Jolliet, the last chain maker still in business here in Switzerland, crafting bracelets by hand and we got to find out how Milanese bracelets were made. There is unfortunately a lot at stake, since this craft is no longer being taught an unfortunately we could well lose this expertise if no one takes over.
Laurent was trained as a jeweller, at the time chain making was part of the training, and he showed us the different techniques enabling to create almost endless possibilities of metal bracelets.
We hope you will enjoy this video and by the way you may ask him to craft any type of bespoke bracelet. If you’re interested, don’t hesitate to contact us and we will pass it on to him.

This art doesn't have to fade away. I too love chain making but have no avenue to learn. If he starts a channel I will be his first and biggest supporter.
Really so mesmerising to see his art in making each item salute to him looking forward for more videos.
Thank you Sir 👌

What a joy it is to watch a master craftsman at work. I will, in future, give the Milanese bracelet the respect it deserves. Great video, thanks.

Thank you for making this video. I am in awe. Laurent is a master, and so young. I want to make most of the chains in the video. If I can't find instructions, I'll figure it out, which will obviously be difficult for some. I have the utmost respect and admiration for Mr. Jolliet.
I hope this guy gets customer, amazing work. I'm drooling over that milanese strap.
Super clean studio!!!
What an amazing video. Thank you so much for sharing. I had no idea these straps could be done entirely by hand. It is also nice to see you promoting Swiss artisans we didn’t even know existed.
Most welcome, makes us happy too 🙏🙏
Great vid thanks for doing all that was necessary .. really good information . Thank you
Very welcome, your comment makes us extremely happy 🙏🙏
These works he makes are absolutely beautiful! I think it'd be wonderful if we could get more programs to bring back the love of chainmaking back out there around the world. Much love friends from a chainmaker to you
Excellent and we hope to contribute to this indeed!!! All the best
wonderful episode. Great to recognize and be able to watch grand artisan "peripheral" producers!
Watchmaking is a big ecosystem and we love to show all these behind the scene artisans 👍👍🙏
Excellent Marc....Thank you...Vive.
Many thanks
Beautiful Craft that should be supported to last .
Incredible
I love these fine fluid milanaise bracelets, hope his craft stays alive. The simple milanaise and the beads of rice bracelet had some sort of comeback it seems but they are mostly made in industrial quality but even they are fun to wear so I can only imagine how such a bracelet in handmade quality must feel in the hands and on the wrist...
Extremely nice, I confirm you this ;) All the very best to you
I’d like to start selling chains/bracelets in the near future. Gold, silver, titanium. I have a Milanese loop Apple Watch and I very much want to learn the Milanese chain. Also got them Italian roots so keep an eye out for an Italian name brand :)
I really hope this craftsmanship is not lost!
This video is very interesting. One of the most informative I've seen. I don't understand why the industry and country of Switzerland would let this great tradition fade away. Thanks for making this.
Unfortunately good question! Thanks for the comment and best to you
Omg i finally find that video respect guys
4:38 and the award for "most satisfying moment" goes to....
😉
J’adore qu’est-ce que vous faites🥰
Great craftsmanship

Like i did last time too. Liked your video before watching it 🙃. Amazing to see the craft. 💗💖
Makes us happy, thanks 🙏
Oh wow!
I have been doing some things with wire chain mail and various other things with copper wire I do enjoy these ideas of creative concepts i have seen some stuff done by other artists who speak Russian showing off skills of this nature and yours by far more interesting if you have any video on how to make nice chains like those you showed us i am all ears
awesome work
thank you for sharing
Beautiful!
Thank you!

Amazing work!
Thanks for sharing Marc.
One thing I love about milamese bracelets is that they never show scratches ;)
And they are so comfortable!!!
@@WATCHESTVcom Indeed my friend!
Отличный обзор, спасибо вам 👍
Great video. Thanks!
Very welcome and thanks for watching 👍👍
Most excellent
Very fantastic your work look like designs my purchase fancy bracelet 👌
It’s a shame. There used to be so many of them. Patek, Chopard and all these brands used to use them. Now it’s so rare. Merci Marc-André for covering this! It’s incredible!❤️
Happy you like this different one 👍🙏
Muy. Interesante. Excelente
Fascinating
🙏🙏
Wonderful
I'm all about the internals ..i thought lets see one of the other artisan crafts which make up the whole piece ....and WOW ...just wow...i was amazed. What a guy. ..his work is immense ..like so many in watchmaking.
Thanks for the appreciative comment 🙏🙏
Hi. I am a goldsmith and I have always wondered how the milanese bracelet is made. Truly beautiful. I would like to learn how to introduce this craft into my designs. Now the fun begins.
Love this.. Please make videos of every chain... I want to learn..
Ok, we hear you
Fascinating video. So you but him in such with some one like Parmigiani Fleurier.
When I heard that he was the last chainmaker, I felt sorry for all those unknown and underestimated amazing craftsmen who create beautiful and spectacular things (including chains) with ordinary pliers and files in their hands, not machines for several hundred thousand euros. Kudos to them!
Some of these bracelets would look great on a luxury watch. Especially with the hand finished polishing that high end watchmakers do. You'd think his business would be booming in Switzerland.
One would hope so, but bot really so i really hope things will go in the right direction, both for him and for the craft in itself.
Hey Marc, definitely give him feedback to upgrade the website, I would love to see his work, get an idea of cost and timelines and maybe even design a necklace, it's tough when not knowing even the baseline cost
Will tell him so 😉👍👍
Excellent craftsmanship! Can he work with exotic materials like titanium? I see Citizen has their Super Titanium, and Tissot uses it also.
IF Laurent Jolliet would put together a set of DVD's showing the chain making process, the art wouldn't be lost. Maybe there isn't enough interest locally, but on a global scale I'm sure there would be a market for the DVD's. Just the views on this video are currently at 72,910 views. I would love to see this art form kept alive.
If I was 15 years younger I would definitely go into this looks cool
Im very interesting this chainmaker sir
hypnotically beautiful
Cool 👍👍👍👍
Really nice and very hard 👌😊
8:09 cette chaîne est incroyable!!! bravo!!
En effet!!

I am so happy to see someome else with less than perfect finger nails! I feel so much better about ione now. Also wondering oif my Sharks mesh (Omega) bracelet is hand made?
😂😂😂
@@WATCHESTVcom Yes, i n retrospect, I thought that to be a silly question.
Don’t worry i was referring to the nails ;) but yes most probably machine made for the Omega version 👍
Grazie mille
Very welcome!
Very cool, specs frame, may I ask which brand is it? :)
It's true, years later we are going to regret not having people like him around and it will be too late :(
It's a very serious issue indeed. Thanks for the comment
