      I feel like this episode might be a bit too late for the spoilers because the meaning of the banner is technically something explained and thought out about later we're not supposed to necessarily know what it means at this moment

    1:40 In Japanese, it's common for teams who have no chance of winning to cheer each other up by saying "let's make good memories here" and so on. They don't get the banner and the glory, but participating still had meaning and value. Basically, Inarizaki's motto says, "we came here for the trophy. The memories we make along the way are an afterthought. We came for the championship. We came here to win."
    It's made stronger in Japanese by two things: it's written in Kansai-ben (the local dialect for the region where Inarizaki is from), so "iran" instead of Tokyo Standard Japanese "iranai," and then instead of saying 'wa, they say 'nanka' in the middle, which is kind of like saying "we don't need no flipping memories." It's not full-on swearing, but saying 'omoide-nanka' is kinda like a softer version of "f*cking memories."

    • @Justsayingmythoughts
      @Justsayingmythoughts Před 2 lety +7

      Growing up in my circumstances I always knew victory was everything. It was first place or nothing and my parents made sure to stamp that into me. It's interesting to see people miss this interpretation because of the different circumstances of their upbringing. They can't even begin to understand that concept that scorns participation itself as not being enough.

    • @salty_maple_syrup
      @salty_maple_syrup Před 2 lety +24

      So basically something to the effect of "We don't need no damn memories"

    • @spacemonkeyentertainment6413
      @spacemonkeyentertainment6413 Před 2 lety +8

      To add to this: The whole "good memories" thing is sorta along the lines of "well, we made it on a fluke, we'll probably lose all the games here, but let's still do our best". So when somone else points out "oh they're here to make good memories" it's kind of a polite way of saying "they suck". Kageyama says it to Hinata in the very first episode of S1 for example, another time is when the dude from Ohgiminami meets Hinata in front of the bathroom. If someone's goal is "to make good memories" it means they don't give it their all, low to no effort at all. The motto has to be understood in that context.

    • @azrielackerman4659
      @azrielackerman4659 Před 2 lety +5

      This is an interesting interpretation, but nah I think it completely misses the real point of the banner. Inarizaki's "We dont need the memories" is more about improvement than anything. They don't need the memories of when they >almost< won, or of the past. They always look forward to improve. As Atsumu says toward the end of the game, "Who cares that we're second best, that was yesterday."

    fun fact: this scene with the Miyas copying the weido-quick made Atsumu become Nishida's favorite setter. He said in an interview "he did some crazy stuff like trying out the weirdo quick right during the game (...) when you work with such a playful setter, you're really happy whenever you get a toss and It's just fun" - He chose Atsumu as the player he would like to play together, and this game as his favorite. Alan (opposite/Brazil's national team) is another player who also talked about Atsumu and about this scene. Alan chose him as the setter he would most like to play - he said "he (Atsumu) saw Kageyama and Hinata doing (the quick) and thought 'I wanna do that too' and he just did. I like this - I like a setter that is not afraid (...) It gives you motivation during the game".
    I think it's funny how some people were offended by the twins copying the quick meanwhile the pro players were like 'wooooooow'
    Another fun fact is that Nishida and Alan also share the same favorite character - Tanaka

I like that it tells us to not dwell on the past . that you might have been the best team or the worst in the past but it doesn't matter and what you need to focus on is right now and how to make this moment great or atleast that's how i interpreted it.

    I love how Nishinoya is always supportive of Hinata when it comes to receive even when he doesn't do it well. The practice, the efforts that Hinata put in the training camp is showing little by little and I am all for it. Also, when I first saw Miya twins copying the quick weirdo honestly I was terrified but then I realised the boys have grown a lot since then and we will be good :)

  • @kronikevaporation6007
    @kronikevaporation6007 Před 2 lety +14

    It's not Kageyama looking at Atsumu's feet lol. It's looking at his movement.
    The receive that went up was bad, such that when you look at it, it seems like the setter will have to go for a high and wide toss to the outside wing spiker.
    But Atsumu's clinical movement (that refined singular step) allows him to get underneath the ball, that bad pass and execute all the spiking options. He is able to run the quick instead.
    This was explained in the Nekoma game back in season 1. Coach Ukai said "Kenma was supported by the perfect receives of their team, while Kageywma had to make up for Karasuno's bad receives with his talent"
    It's the same here. Atsumu and his talent to convert a bad receive into a full fledged attacking play.

      But you are wrong in that assessment because Johzenji is a 'free spirited' team as a whole who like to try new things.
      Inarizaki as a team is not that at all. If you mean the Miya Twins you would still be somewhat wrong as the setter is the only one who 'tries to do new things'. But that isn't even it. All they did was try to copy the 'Quick'. They didn't 'try anything new' other than that 1 thing.
      Minor Spoilers:
      I mean Inarizaki literally has a Captain whose whole motto is that you are rewarded with what you are always doing everyday in a routine and not necessarily just experimenting each day, each match.

      @@rikumajumder1558 From the Haikyu Wiki "The team has garnered a reputation as the "strongest challengers" for their unconventional play style and tendency to take risks." The announcers in the game said they can be unpredictable.
      I'm clearly not saying they're exactly alike. Just that they are risk takers and will try new things like the weirdo quick after seeing it in person. I don't want to get into spoilers but even the Miya's talk about them playing around.
      The comparisons are small but if Johzenji had someone like their former captain that was like Daichi. They would be even more alike, they just don't have that foundation to depend on.

    The first time I ever watched this episode I was soooo mad that the twins copied hinata and Kageyama’s quick but now that I’ve watched the anime multiple times and love all the characters I’m so impressed w the twins and especially atsumu. He tried that quick on a whim and had the exact same thought process as Kageyama mirroring exactly what Kageyama said in the first season ‘this timing, this angle, it’s perfection’ this also shows the insane trust between both of the duos. But in the end hinata and Kageyama’s quick is the original and is definitely superior

      I don't really understand how people get upset over them copying it, that's how sports work, you learn from other people. Literally all of our moves that we use have been used in volleyball before, we got a lot of our "special" moves due to learning from other teams, except for the the freak quick. It's only natural over time other players would learn to do it as well, just like how people in the past created other moves in volleyball that are still used today, it's just how it works.

    I feel like if you want to just 'watch sports' without the 'experience' of a crowd in a stadium then you should just stay home. You will not just be comfortable but also have better camera angles.
    People who go to watch sports in stadiums are going for the 'full experience'.

    I think everyone in the comments is jumping the gun a bit earlier about the banner, they talk about the banner later episodes about what it really means cuz we're supposed to kind of not understand it at this moment we're supposed to wait and kind of see why don't they need the memories. So really to me it feels like this comment section is completely full of spoilers without people realizing it

    I feel you on needing earplugs/earmuffs at some live sporting events. Along with being a volleyball fan, I am a huge baseball fan, and there are times that I need relief from screaming kids, or worse, screaming drunk fans. [I swear, some guys just go to baseball games to one up each other in drinking. I don't know how they do that when beer is 10 bucks, but it's not my bank account.]
    The twins' quick is exhilarating for more than one reason. I absolutely love their music too. You know they mean business when that sax begins to play.

    If the past matches plus this match seemed intense to you, consider that the new Karasuno vs Nekoma season contains much more intensity and suspense than all the matches so far.
