We hiked Red Mountain on Sunday, July 7th. We arrived at the shared parking lot at 6:45 am, and the entire hike took a little over 5 hours. Please note that an NW Forest Pass is required, and the facilities are now open.
There was no snow on the trail, except for a small patch right before the ascent to the summit, so no spikes are needed. For first-time hikers, the trail to the top veers slightly to the right as you look at the mountain. I recommend using a GPS, and cell phone coverage is available throughout the hike. The views at the top were incredible!
However, bugs were a constant annoyance, so I recommend bringing bug spray. We chose the Commonwealth Trail, which is about a mile shorter than the traditional route and, in my opinion, more scenic.
Happy hiking!
Red is a i90 classic, love it!
Beautiful adventure I need to start exploring that area kore
It is beautiful! Great stamina
Thank you!
Fun seeing the difference in the seasons! I haven't had anyone willing to do thr scree on this one yet so still on my list.
Yeah, it gets a little dicey on the way back down. I love a good scramble though :-) If you do it, go early to avoid other people sending rocks down the mountain. Cheers!
@@hallahiking2933 good tip! Me too, but not all of my hiking friends are so keen on them and draw a line at anything too loose on the way down.
Is it 7.40 miles one way or roundtrip.
