Learn the tools and woodworking tips you'll need to make this useful blanket chest and toy chest. This is a great woodworking project to do and the chest comes in really handy around the house. - Jak na to + styl
Jon, it is always a pleasure to watch you work. No theatrics, just the calm capable application of artistic and woodworking skills. You make it look easy, but I would never try drawing lines and curves by hand like that.
Love this chest, will try to build for my daughter. I have no wood working experience but will try. Thanks Jon for the video.
I built a blanket chest, following your guideline, with many modifications. I could not have done it without your direction and advise. Thanks, greatly appreciated. My wife loves it!
That's great Harry, Thanks for the comment
Jon makes it look so simple. I wish all wood worker teachers would teach so clear and concise! Directions like this are an inspiration. Maybe, I can do this too! It may take me a month and my lines my not be perfect, but now it's possible. Thanks
The greatest product!
I've officially watched this video over 50 times. Though I already built a blanket chest based on your design, I did make modifications to make it mine, or a little different. I bet if everyone that built a blanket chest based on your design emailed you a pic for your website, you would see many beautiful variations. Probably many thousand pictures. That is cool. Still, we all did it because of you. Thanks Jon Peters! You are a woodworking artist
Not only are you a great carpenter but also a great teacher
Keep up the great work I am 32 years old and also love wood working, it never gets boring
This is the video I needed. I've been wanting to build one for my 15 month old daughter. The face frame and decorative molding was the idea I had but still debating on the leg idea or just go with bottom side rails. Nothing better than building something like this for your own child instead of the cheap ones from the store. Thanks again!
rjdshmetal thanks , so true have a good build
Thanks for the great video Jon, I'm making this for my daughter as a Christmas gift, about 90% done right now, just have the lid, prepping, and painting left
You have the knack of taking an ordinary box and making it look great. Thanks for sharing this Jon.
Jon, I love the look and design of this chest!
Nice blanket chest, thanks for sharing Jon.
What an awesome video - you've struck the perfect balance of being really informative without dragging the pace. Everything I could have wanted to see, you got in there and showed. Amazing work. Thank you!
That's great man, thank you
Don't worry about the long videos and thank you for showing a detailed process.
I really enjoy watching your videos. I specially appreciate how you show the small details about the way you work. Such as the way you keep track of what pieces you cut and using a brush to remove glue.
Coming from a a structural engineering student, its a pleasure to learn about the practical aspects in order to compliment the design aspects we learn in school!
Thank you for your videos Jon! If you can focus more on structures like a shed, that would be great :)
Indeed, always a pleasure watching you work. One always learns more from the patient teacher. Your explanations and details are thorough and very informative for a DIY'er like me. Thank you for sharing your expertise with us.
Jon, I recently started watching your videos and signed up to you website. I always wanted to do some woodworking myself, but didn't know where to start. You sir, have made it so easy to follow instructions on your plans. My first project will be the stand up planter box this spring. Thank you again for your amazing videos.
You really explain this so well it seems like any guy could take this on with a bit of patience. Thanks a lot for taking the time to make it, the chest and the vid.
I spent a long time trying to find the right project to make for my daughter (who is going to be born in about week). I consider myself an extreme novice when it comes to woodworking, but I thought I'd give this a try. I took my time and followed the instructions closely and it came out wonderfully. I didn't have a couple of the tools (e.g., Kreg Jig) so I improvised a little bit which worked out pretty well, and I just don't have the skills to curve the bottoms of the legs so I left them straight. It lacks a bit of the precision that Mr. Peters demonstrates in the video but I'm very proud of it none-the-less. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful design and easy to understand instructions! Regards. JP
Really nice to hear JP, thanks so much and all the best, Jon
JP Garrison - Thanks for sharing your experience. Like you I am an extreme novice and I was apprehensive about attempting this project. However, your comment has inspired me to try and build it. All the best in your woodworking.
Jon Peters - Thank you for all of the great designs, how-to instruction and inspiration. Pls keep the vids coming!
Will do , Thanks Dave
Hi JP. I hope you don't mind me asking but what is the dimensions of the base cap molding that you used? The ones around here are around 1 3/8" wide and it looks on the video that the one he uses is smaller.
Wonderful design
hi Jon, for me the looks of the box seems like a lot of work to do it, but the way you show me, it is not. you made it simple and easy. You are such a guru. Thankyou.
Thanks
not all skilled carpenters can teach the skills. It requires the mentor to break each step down to the basics and remembering that many beginners are watching. Jon has achieved this in spades which isn't easy IMO. Great job Sir
Excellent workmanship!
Can't wait for part 2. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Nice work Jon. Thanks!
Jon, thank you. I made this as a Christmas present for my wife this year!

I made mine out of clear pine. I've got several compliments on it. Thanks, your instructions were easy to follow. I am making a second one with a 1x8 pine base instead of legs.

Bro., the infamous Jon Peters' Blanket Chest!! Can you believe I never watched this video. Dude, the lag idea blew my mind!!! Hoping all is well Bud, Dirty Jersey out!!!
Hi J wow thats not going to fall apart so well made, when you cut the little piece of molding, you could tape the small piece to the saw 1st before cutting if like me you have sawdust all over the floor,
G

Hola! 🖐I really, really like how it is looking. I can foresee making a few of these for my sons to store the grandkiddos blankets and such. Thank you
always so interesting and a very good teacher. Thank you.
Very nice project. Well done.
Your newfound Kreg jig goes to show that newer is not always better. That thing reminds me of the old Rocketman show. Enjoyed your video. I tried to make a straight line like you do...maybe one day you might make a video, for us, to show that awesome technique. Thanks for posting.
Great blanket chest I will make it in walnut or cherry
good work, very professional.
I'm sure my children will love it, thank you for object.
Very nice! I'll try to make one.

i just started up a millwork shop (i'm on the sales end of it). really enjoy watching, especially at lunchtime. keep up the good work. more more more.
You are the man! It looked so awesome the entire time you were assembling. You also made seem easy enough for me to do...ha! Nice job!
Thanks man, appreciate it
Jon,
I love the video and you make it look easy. I am fairly new to woodworking and have collected just about all the tools needed except for the Kreg jig. My only issue is finding the lumber to start the chest. Lumber is very expensive if you don't shop around.
Thanks again,
Harley
3348harley Thank you
