  • During my October 2023 trip down to Orlando, I was lucky enough to experience Soarin' Over California at EPCOT (instead of the usual Soarin' Around the World)! Ironically, when I was at Disneyland Resort in January 2022 they had Soarin' Around the World instead of the California version, so I was elated to experience Soarin' Over California for the first time.
The music and smells remain wonderful, but not having transitions between scenes was new (and for me, a bit weird honestly)! I liked this version a lot though, and while this POV video is something it certainly does not accurately capture the feeling of experiencing the attraction. I hope you get to enjoy Soarin' Over California in real life someday! xoxo, Jacqueline

    Hi, Jacqueline--
I love both versions of Soarin', but of course, the Cali version is rare, so it feels special when I see it. Thanks for posting.
Summer has been busy for me, and I didn't get a chance to reply to the July update, but I wanted to reach out about what you said about your recent personal problems. First, thanks for being honest and unafraid to talk about it. My Irish background is particularly unfriendly to talking about mental illness, and my family has an almost secret code to avoid any direct discussion about it even though it's...there. Anyway, I really hope you're doing better and taking good care of yourself.
I returned from my trip a few days ago. This was a really successful one! Crowd sizes were very manageable, and the parks were pleasant. MK looked crowded, but I had shorter waiting times than in a long time. I actually got on both Peter Pan's Flight and Jungle Cruise--two time sappers I usually bypass. Epcot was sort of the opposite--it seemed like no one was walking around, but wait times were closer to normal. I think this is because Epcot has fewer crowd dispersers than MK (like going to the Tiki Birds if Pirates is backed up) and attractions are farther apart, giving you fewer alternatives to waiting on the line once you arrive at an attraction. Like what you going to do if you get all the way to Frozen and it's a 50 minute wait? Walk back and forth to Mexico and China for their attractions?
So, I got to see the new Country Bears Musical Jamboree. I thought it hadn't opened yet. They sure didn't make a big deal about its return. I loved it! It's actually better than the original, and a great refresh. I'm glad Disney isn't entirely abandoning the older concepts. Tiana's Bayou Adventure is absolutely stunning. It's beautifully integrated into the Frontierland landscape (although I don't think New Orleans IRL is part of that scene.) You can even see it from the WDW Railroad. Disney got this so right on every level. The perfect way to remedy the problem that was Splash Mountain. Riding this beautiful flume, I could not help but hope it's a harbinger that soon another Black woman will replace something bad!
Thanks always, Jacqueline. Enjoy the last week of August!

Thank you. The dull/slow newer version is so bad with locations I have no attachment to and weird animal CGI. That should always play at DCA.
