    I love the fit of this lens on LUMIX G100. I forced myself to use just this lens on a nature walk. It gives interesting perspectives of trees, especially if you get a closeup of a low branch. I wanted this for vlogging. Still a 7:01 tight frame with G100 crop.

    I keep thinking about getting a 6mm or 9mm lens for my G85, but since my camera came with a 12-60mm kit lens, I don't see the need.
    The 12-60 Panasonic is so good, it has spoiled me since I first got it.

    I saw one photographer commenting that a lot of younger people, are only really used to seeing/using phone cameras, find "traditional" portraits look odd to them, because, for example. the ultrawides you tend not to see peoples ears in a head shot. (I am far from being a "younder person", and I've learned that one of the reasons I don't like using a phone for photography is that I really can't stand the ultra wide lenses)

    For the slight lack of sharpness, this can easily be made up for in post-production.
    The edges of the image may appear faint, but only if you are very close to the subject. This focal length is not made for that, nor are other large focal lengths for that matter.
    By knowing how to use it well, you can take superb photos! At least if you are a good photographer.

  • @chrispatmore8944

    I love this lens. I bought it for shooting live music so I can either get up close with the musicians, or capture the whole stage. Most gigs I just use this and a 25mm f/1.8. I also used the 9mm for shooting mushrooms, especially larger ones. I could focus super close from the ground and still fill the whole frame with the underside of the mushrooms. The only thing close that Olympus/OM System has is their 8mm f/1.8 fisheye, which you can de-fish in camera, but it’s twice the price, and it has the convex front element so you can’t use screw-in filters. When I was shooting Canon I used the 16-35mm f/2.8, but this is so much better.

    I am a multi format shooter- APS-C Fuji and Panasonic M4/3, the last of which I got mainly for video. I mostly use Fuji for stills (and video on a tripod) and do have the excellent Fujifilm XF 14 mm f/2.8- however after a lot of debating, I have indeed decided to get the PanaLeica 9 mm f/1.7 for the M 4/3 system- it is such a special lens in the way it renders images, the form factor, the large numerical aperture and the sheer quality of the in-camera correction at this focal length. Its currently sold out but I will pick up a copy later this year.

    I have the Panasonic Leica 9mm F1.7 lens and I love it. I use it mainly for video, but it also works great with stills. The three key things I love are:
    (1) The super wide angle plus the IBIS in my Panasonic G95 allows me to walk with the camera and still get smooth video.
    (2) The F1.7 allows for low light filming.
    (3) The lens can get very close to the subject.

    Any chance you can give the Samyang 35mm F2.8 a shot? That thing is a E-mount FF lens that is bordering on pancake sized. While there are some chromatic aberration, and heavy vignette, distortion is non-existent, and lends well to a more vintage style.

  • @GrenlandUnderVann
    @GrenlandUnderVann Před rokem +1

    I got this about five months after pre-ordering. It's cheap, have light weight and is f1.7. Basically a good lens for gimbal use IMO. However, being a "Leica" lens it falls short on a few parameters IMO, it's totally plastic fantastic build quality and is missing a ring for aperture control, focus clutch, AF/MF switch, etc which might find on the more expensive "Leica" branded primes. For some this is perhaps a nice trade off to keep the price low. As for optical performance, while the center is sharp, there is a very large roll of towards the edges of the frame. So uniformity is not very good. Certainly it's no mach for the impressive optical quality of the "Leica" 10-25 mm f1.7. As usual for most m43 optics smallness is an important design factor which impacts optical quality in a negative way.

    • @mattisulanto
      @mattisulanto  Před rokem

      Thanks for sharing. The lens that I tried out in this video was sharp across the frame. Of course sharper in the middle, but I did not notice any significant sharpness loss towards the corners. I'd also say it seems like a really good value, but agree that for a Leica lens it should have some more goodies. As it is, it probably should be just a Lumix lens.
