Ito Yung panahon na Ang Ganda pa Ng pba panuurin, Yung halos kilala Muna lahat Ng player sa bawat team kahit na Yung Bangko.
Nag grandslam ng walang AlFrancis Chua on the side, walang farm team na pinagkukuhanan ng star players, walang super import etc. Just pure talent and super effective system. 💪

You have to understand the type of opposition and adversity that this team had to face in order to achieve the grand slam.
The San Miguel grand slams were more or less a given, since they had such a strong team compared to the rest.
Alaska in ‘96 was playing a system that was well ahead of their opposition.
This Purefoods/SanMig team was facing 3 super teams and a host of formidable teams that were intelligent, aggressive, and systematic in their own way.
Check the lineups of San Miguel, Ginebra, and TNT. Also, TNT was a well coached team, and was so disciplined and professional. From an objective standpoint, TNT was the best team at that time.

These are tough teams who were biting at the bits, and quite honestly could have won championships if not for the 3 super teams standing in their way.
Hell, even Air21 was dangerous back then.
Purefoods/SanMig was disciplined, systematic, and talented… *but was nowhere near the top of the power rankings*
You can’t say that the other teams weren’t trying. They had as much grit and determination as we did.
What Purefoods/SanMig did that was different from all the other teams in that season was something so simple:
They harnessed probably the most powerful human weapon of all:
*The Power of Belief*
This became apparent as early as the quarterfinals of the All Filipino Cup. When we punched a ticket to the semis, I saw the difference in how other teams saw us.
It’s not just the teams, but also the fans.
That simple mantra:
“If it can be seen, it can be done.”
This was a mantra that developed into an entity on its own throughout the season, and extended beyond the 5 men in the court, beyond the bench, beyond the coaching and support staff, and creeped all the way into their legions of fans.
It was such a pure and clean concept that developed in the midst of a league that was hostile to such purity and cleanliness.
As the season progressed, our team internalized that belief… and somehow affected the way other teams and their fans behaved.
You can feel from the other teams and their fans the resentment they developed for PF/SanMig and their fans. The resentment developed not because we were winning, *but mainly because we had the audacity to believe that we can win it all in that season*
It was a simple state of mind:
“We will write our story. We won’t allow others to author it for us.”
It was clear, concise, and sincere… and that rubbed the other teams and their fans in a really bad way.
Most of us PF/SanMig fans are nice people. I personally chose Purefoods as my PBA team back when I was a kid simply because I enjoyed eating hotdogs.

As I grew up, I began to appreciate the wholesome and pure way of play that Purefoods players played.

Along the way, as we fans grew older and wiser, we also developed a battle scarred frame of mind as we realized that other teams are prone to underhanded measures.
So there we were…
Our belief.
The power of belief.
We were afraid of failure, yes, but we used that fear to keep us grounded and vigilant.
The other teams and their fans were afraid that we would succeed.
Our sheer belief and faith made the other teams and their fans focus on what we’re doing instead of focusing on what they should do.
We exploited their penchant for sabotage and we led them to go on one fool’s errand after another.

It was such a feeling.
That grand slam season had such a memetic energy about it… almost as if we memed it to reality.
It was fun.
I am proud to have been part of it, and to have given my energy and mystic force to make it happen.

I remembered back in our province, Bohol when BMeg won that finals againts TNT. I was on the 7th step of my aunt's stairs while watching the game. I was so nervous and my uncle was teasing me the whole time that BMEG is already losing that night but then a miracle happened and I jumped from the 7th step to the ground. I guess the adrenaline rush made me do it. I was , jumping, shouting and teary-eyed at the same time. My mother even got mad at me for jumping but I didn't care. I was filled with overflowing joy and excitement. It felt like I was in there playing. I'm a Purefoods fan since 2007 but only in 2016 when I got to watch live games here in Manila coz I started working here already. I spent thousands and go on leave just to watch live. I even tried joining some of their fans club and also chase players after each game esp Pingris and Simon. I also went to their practice gym once before but sadly James was already traded when I got here in 2016. I only stopped watching live when I started to realize that I need to save money already. Until now I can still vividly remember those moments where I have to remind my uncle wayback in HS until college circa 2008-2015 that Purefoods has a game so he could transfer the TV channel. Anyways yun lang . I hope Purefoods/Magnolia will be back to the Finals this conference. HAHA
Teamwork tlaga ang nag dala sa kanila walang sapawan bigayan lang at sa sipag din at tyaga.. Nakuha nila ang grand slam..

It's 2022 and still a fan of this franchise, since 2012. It's been a one decade. From San Mig Coffee Mixer to Magnolia Chicken Timplados Hotshots. Forever a fan of this team. But sad to say, they are no longer in one frame and others already retired. But I will keep supporting this team forever. This team is my number one since I started watching PBA.

Yung 2012-2014 rivalry ng San Mig Coffee vs ROS parang similarity lang ng 2005-2006 rivalry ng Red Bull vs Purefoods na ilang beses nadin nagtapat sa finals. Pero kung pagsasama samahin mo yung panalo ng Purefoods at ni CYG pansin ko mas lamang ang panalo ng Purefoods over CYG when it comes sa finals match. But opinion ko lang yan.
