    Damn, Vitus was amazing. You can see why Black Flag had them open for them even though (or perhaps because) it drove the little punkers insane. This music is every bit as loud and intense as the Flag was back in the day. Truly fantastic stuff, thanks for posting.

    Long haired hippie with a punk band shirt playing guitar on a Doom band for punk fans.
    Can it get any more diverse than that?

      you take your shots where you can get them and it made sense loosely at that time. this band couldn't have had a more difficult to understand, convoluted beginning, though. very happy to see them gain an audience later on through the internet. our forefathers of doom deserve this and more.

      @@Epitaphforyesterday what's crazy is, the virginia, maryland, dc area had a much more cult doom scene at the time. Pentagram most likely had a huge part in that scene from the early 70s to the 80s

    I do agree, priceless footage. The sound is taken straight from the soundboard, that's why it's so clean.

    This is truth. On April 8th 1982,Vitus opened the show for SST Overkill, and The Stepmothers. Some punks came up and told me "I hope you guys don't play like this." I told him him, "You'll be surprised." As soon as we started our set the headbangers were in front of the stage, and the punks were fighting, and slam dancing in the middle of the floor. Great show, I never saw so many fights.

    love how the punks in the video are enjoying vitus music
    i play for a crossover thrash band and we were invited to play at a hardcore show we got there and everyone was moshing to any hardcore band and then when we went upstage and we heard jeers about us having long hair they just sat down and waited for us to finish our songs with blank faces then started moshing again to the next hardcore band

    Amen. Its a very short stretch from the sonic roar of Black Flag to Saint Vitus. And I must say, having seen Vitus several times, most of the audience WAS into them. Even at that time only the most close minded people couldn't appreciate what they were trying to do.

  • @allendl181
    @allendl181 Před 16 lety +2

    Man, Vitus ruled. As much as it pissed the little punkers off in the day, you can see why Black Flag had Saint Vitus open for them. They were heavy, loud, and intense, just like the Flag was. This is outstanding.

    @snubbs741 Ginn liked Sabbath, but his favorite band was the Grateful Dead; he claimed to have seen them over 75 times. If you listen to the stuff Ginn is doing now (Jambang and the Taylor, Texas Corrugators), the Dead influence is readily apparent, but you'd be hard pressed to hear any Sabbath in there. On another note, Saint Vitus doesn't sound that much like Sabbath in my opinion. They definitely have a Sabbath influence, but I'd say Vitus is darker and heavier than Sabbath.

    Seen these guys open for Black flag in ann arbor this tour the venue did not want slam dancing so a lot of people were kicked out when Black flag played the bouncers were tired and stoped kicking people out but the people who were kicked out had organized and wanted to fight so here I am 14 or 15 years old and now we gotta leave the venue in the middle of a standoff the bouncers did not want to go outside cause they kicked so many out . I was hooked on Saint Vitus since
