It is heart warming to learn that many young people have decided to stay in Kinmen to help the old folks and also the island's economy. I guess Kinmen people is the first Taiwanese people to feel the tension of china taiwan tension. Hope the taiwan mainland can help the Kinmen people to overcome hardship due to worsening tension. Wish everyone safe and well.
Kinmenese people are not Taiwanese. They don't live in Taiwan. They are administered by ROC government but they are neither Taiwanese nor Chinese. However, culturally and genetically they are much closer to Fujian people on mainland China since it's literally right next door and many people have family or ancestors from Fujian.
@@elvishassassin1 life is complex. The same argument can be applied to other regions of china like Yunnan etc. Or for that matter far east Russia is closer to china than european Russia. Let not complicate matters....
I just found out yesterday, 06/10/2021, that my paternal grandfather was from Quemoy City (now Kinmen). He was born around 1906 and migrated to the Philippines in the 1930s with a brother and an uncle's family. He eventually married my grandmother whose own grandfather was from Amoy (now Xiamen).
My paternal grandparents were from kinmen.

It is quite amazing the nation of Taiwan, despite constant oppression and harassment by the Chinese government and military, van reaming so peaceful and light hearted about the real threat of being murdered. Good job Taiwan, most countries are not so able to remain calm and logical given the real threat of being oppressed and murdered via war. 100% respect!

the issue here is one country is a democracy which means power to the people, while the other is an oppressive dictatorial system
the guy said 大陸 , but was translated to China instead of Mainland. The fact is no matter of Republic of China or People's Republic , China is make of Mainland and Taiwan. BTW, Kinmen, Matsu (Lienchiang) and Wuqiu (Putien) are Republic of China controlling areas of Fujian instead of Taiwan. Today's ROC controls two provinces , Taiwan and parts of Fujian.

I just noted on the wikipedia page of Kinmen island a line which had the following 'Local residents of Kinmen generally do not view themselves as a part of Taiwan or identify as "Taiwanese", this sentiment is shared by the inhabitants of the Matsu islands.
' I removed the 'not' part, but i think this is the 50 cent army doing something fishy.

Kinmen and Matsu islands are a part of Fujian province but got separated because of the Chinese Civil War. Kinmen and Matsu were never ceded to Japan in 1895 by the Treaty of Shimonoseki only Taiwan and Penghu.
