Spaldeen - a new release on Amazon by an author I’ve been following for a couple of years. My dad used to tell me about the little ball he played stickball with in the Brooklyn neighborhood where he grew up. …A novel approach to storytelling, but I enjoyed it and flipped my copy to my dad. I think he’ll like it.
When I was very young my grandparents took me to Manchester TN. To a Cherokee POW WOW and we saw either stick ball or lacrosse. There was a large field and at least one very tall pole. My Great Grandmother was 1/4 Cherokee.
Brilliant game! Fast-moving, skilful, mixed, physical, communal, no fancy kit, lot of mutual respect on the field despite some impressive take-downs, no kissing, no fussy shows and fake injuries. Could say more, but watching or playing there's nothing boring about this. Lots of respect from across the Atlantic.
In Blood Moon, by John Sedgwick, the description of the game sounds a lot like a SEC college football weekend! The fans & party like atmosphere, the rivalries between the towns, & of course the glory to be won. Even the players & coaches with their pre-game rituals. It's an awesome sport! Imagine how entertaining it'd be to see 'Bama vs A&M, in Stickball!
Seems like my kind of sport. I’m part Cherokee native but I was adopted / grew up in an English / Hawaiian speaking family so I’m trying to reconnect to my culture.
My aunt helps out this one tribe and over the summer im getting the chance to coach little league stickball at 13! Im really exited i want to be a football player or coach when i get older anyways

If you live in Mississippi and see some Indians ( like me) they usually play stickball for their traditional Indian culture Sometimes they play in games ( like the NFL or NBA) and if you heard the name Choctaw or bongue chitto or something else that's the Indians their talking about
My grandson just got asked today about joining the youth team in Tishomingo because they saw potential in him when the hosted the fun day for or school.
In the Iroquoisan nation it's lacrosse, a stick with a woven net. Catch and throw, don't touch the ball. And score by tossing the ball into your opponents goal posts... Also high contact
I've been trying to find out information about my great grandmother back then children where conceived by house nurses with know records her name was malinda green she married my great grandfather rufus ruiz in Texas having a hard time find out more information about the cherokee greens
@@og-greenmachine8623 you must be a big league yard bird. Cherokee citizens are all allowed to enroll at birth and provided lifetime identification cards that are universal across the country.
@@og-greenmachine8623 hey man this place isn’t for spreading hate messages this is a place where the nation is spreading a solid message and sharing its culture with others. You need to go on somewhere with that hateful language.
After watching stickball, I wonder why it hasn't formalized into a pro sport yet, like Iroquois lacrosse has. I think that it would be very interesting.
1:40 "its kind of dangerous" dude gets suplexed straight into the ground
Exactly🤣
😂😂😂
The game you almost die playing.
Can’t even be upset because it’s a fun game.
This is so much cooler than lacrosse! Glad to see that the Cherokee nation is maintaining their culture. Never let it go.

This and Irish hurling are in the same sport family
I really want to do this.
Looks pretty rough! I guess that's what the people like, though.
Seriously: Good job keeping the tradition alive.

It looks really fun, it shall take to national tournaments. No physics, no sex, no age, all inclusive, lot of community fun. Bring it up to nationals!
Filthy Savages
Stickball game seems more fun to play.
They are really more like a teamwork.
It seems like they have to move like mobility.
Now I know where the term savage came from can I play! 😎⚔️
