    You can actually tear these things apart and put another fuel pump in them. But it ain't pretty. I had to breaking some of the plastic to get it fully open. Someone more skilled could probably open it without breaking it. The replacement fuel pump I put inside was a 1/4 inch too long so I had to saw back the locking tabs for it to fit. Ultimately I'd probably replace the whole thing if I wanted to use it seriously but for now I just want to move it down the road a bit and test for any other major problems.

    Getting ready to do this to mine. But now curious if i could go through the floorboard. Like i have done to a couple of 3rd generation Camaros. 🤣 especially since I am stranded in the soft desert sand. I have the b2500 and is too heavy to lift.

    Very well explained, what symptoms did you have that prompted you to replace the fuel pump...mine is currently jerking like a misfire, but then it cut off when I came to a stop and it sputters sometimes, its the same year 2001. Thank you much.

    I have a 2000 van also like the one you were working on with 79K miles on it. Should I replace the fuel pump With in a certain amount of miles? Did your original fuel pump fail?

    • @zecxnd
      @zecxnd  Před 2 lety +1

      I couldn't tell you for sure on the miles, the reason I changed mine was because I was chasing a starting issue 👍🏿 although it didn't fix the issue, it was about time I replaced it since I did see corrosion on the gauge

    • @zecxnd
      @zecxnd  Před 2 lety +1

      I'll be honest, I chased it around and could never figure it out. Got it scanned, and supposedly 2 cylinders have low compression, but don't know if to believe it since the engine only had 89k miles when I bought it and it's been doing it since lol

      @@zecxnd thanks for your reply. I've had similar problems with other vehicles. A new map/maf sensor fixed it. Leaking oil over certain electrical parts/connectors also cause problems. I map sensor and IAC valve all this to my van and still have problems stalling. So in my case I think it is the fuel pump. Anyway my 2 cts.

    Has nobody ever heard of a spanner wrench? A hammer and chisel are fine for removing the lock ring, because you're supposed to replace it and the seal, if you ever take it off.
    A torque wrench and a spanner wrench or lock ring tool is what is needed. 40 Ft.-Lbs. of torque, according to the service and repair manual.
    Not a bad vid, but you're not a mechanic.
    Watch videos from actual mechanics if you want to fix your car the right way.

    • @zecxnd
      @zecxnd  Před 3 lety +11

      Yeah yeah yeah, you 2 do realize that there's people out there that rather do this themselves than to pay a real mechanic $200-$500? It's obvious I'm not a "real mechanic" thought the ordinary tools and the fact that I was doing it outside of an apartment complex was enough to give it away lol anyways, even though I didn't torque it to 40 Ft. Lbs and I dragged the strainer across the asphalt, van runs like a champ, and I used the money I saved to pay rent, some shoes and 2 grilled cheese sandwiches 🧀 yall be safe tho
