Venture to the Aleutians. Kodiak to Sitka

- This video describes some of the major events which have hit Kodiak over the past 100 years and documents the final Alaskan part of our trip which has taken us out to the Aleutian Islands. On the outward trip we followed the coast to Kodiak. On the return journey we take the direct route across the Gulf of Alaska to Sitka in Southeast Alaska.
I read some comments, I wanted to say it's very enjoyable to hear your commentary in clear, intelligent speech, thank you, there's no hype or antics, it's a pleasure. 🙏🌎
I'm extremely impressed with your work Tony. The photography, illustrations, video, and in particularly your story-telling and narration are first class--this could easily be on the Discovery or National Geographic channels..seriously. You have immense skills and talents!! Jon

The Venture videos do us a great service: on the order of Jacques Cousteau's films of the 50's and on, but for a generation with a more limited attention span.

While I realize the skill is all yours and not that of the camera, may I ask what camera(s) you do use? As an amateur photographer (primarily stills) I am always curious about gear.

Many thanks for the compliment. Over the years I have been through a number of cameras but now mainly use a Panasonic Lumix GH4. Starting this year I now shoot in 4K. This camera is versatile, unobtrusive and small. It makes me look good with its superb images. I find I don't need to use a tripod as, unlike most SLR's, the viewfinder works in video mode. I edit with Final Cut Pro X on an iMac.
Everything is now smaller, cheaper and works better - once you have got over the learning curve! If you like these videos, there are plenty more at Vimeo.com/tonyfleming. There is now some overlap but those on Vimeo mostly refer to non-boat related travel. In my opinion, Vimeo is much more responsive and easier to use than CZcams and the picture quality is better.
Volcanic activity can be catastrophic, we live in quiet times, hopefully it stays that way.
Do you ever go to a place that's warm?? I assume Venture has heaters.
...did see some great fossils in Pasagshak including one complete prehistoric fish, Keith's brother took it home with him to New York, probably not allowed but this was 40 years ago

Pretty brave, setting off across the Gulf with fresh, untested fuel. What fuel filtration system do you use?
We have Twin Racors plus two in-series MAN filters. In 72,000 nm of cruising we have never experienced fuel problems. No bravery involved.

Mrs Larson was around 8 years old and the hired hand led her and her brother and sister walking hand in hand all the way over the mountains to Port Lions through the dust and ash whee they were later rescued by the US Navy if I remember the story correctly. Great Video, but having lived in Kodiak for a number of years I never heard anyone refer to Kodiak as the Aleutians mate. Did you make a run down to Dutch and further west somewhere along the way ? I'm not sure where you got the impression that I thought Kodiak was in the Aleutians. Of course I know that it is not. We went to Dutch Harbor and there is a video that describes the entire trip visiting Kodiak on the way out and back.
