    Awesome. Thank you for this. I was 18 when this movie came out...one of the greatest. The sound track is epic, and was directed by the most under appreciated directors of all time: John Milius.

    Nice but it would have been nice to see a close view of where the wheel was set up and not shots of what we're background rocks in the movie.

      The circular concrete slab in the opening shot is all that is left of the Wheel of Pain. I had chosen to shoot the rock and mountains as it was the only thing familiar to the original scene for reference. The circular stone slab is the foundations of the original wooden log which sat in the earth, allowing the Wheel to rotate. I will do an updated video soon once I complete the other locations on my list. 👍

    I wonder of the stone fort where they filmed the showdown where Conan prays to Crom and fights Thulsa Doom's men is a real structure. If it was just stryrofoam painted to look like stone, it was convincing. Thulsa Doom's temple was entirely fake so that's probably what they did.

      Update: the Atlantean King tomb turned out to be the most easy to find. Directly from your home and sofa. You can find, recognize and identify the place and exactly the rock in Streetview. Advice: the pinnacle rock with the carved symbol is false, is a scenery, but the rest still undoubtedly identifiable.

    Horrible. Conan was not a slave and would never have grown up pushing that stupid wheel. Those movies make a mockery of the Conan that I grew up reading way before those trash movies existed. Read the original stories by Howard and even De Camp. Then you might get a sense of what Conan is about.

    • @AlexanderSargentDigitalMedia
      @AlexanderSargentDigitalMedia  Před 2 lety +3

      I have read them all. I still like the film as I also grew up with it. Conan has been a pirate, prisoner, smuggler, warrior, thief, general, king... I think its not too far fetched to suggest Conan could have been a slave during his life too.
      I don't think there is much of a Conan origin so I think the slate is mostly blank on that. Furthermore referencing De Camp as an original writer is very wrong, although he finished off some of Howard's unfinished tales, there is a clear and distinct difference between Howard's Conan and the more modern interpretations of De camp, Robert Jorden etc. If your interested in how others might interperate the same concept, then I suggest to branch out, you might find hidden gold. The simplicity and limitations of Howard's writings reflect the original source, which had been designed as shorts for pulp magazine publication. He wrote those stories with that in mind. So when writing from book to film the way a story unfolds cannot directly resemble the randomness and unconsistancy and charm that was of Howard's Books. The fact that the Conan books Start at the end, should tell you something about the freedom of Conans Origin.
