  • Peroneal Tendonitis is associated with pain to the outside region of the foot and ankle following the course of the peroneal tendons. Peroneal Tendonitis is most commonly seen in people with history of ankle sprains and people with Pes Cavus, or high arch.
    A stable shoe with a wide base of support is reduces the potential tendency to have the heel bone invert or turn in. A orthotic with a valgus post inside the supportive shoe will further prevent the tendency for the foot to turn in reduces tension in the Peroneal Tendon.

    I have been searching for the type of pain I've been experiencing for like the last 2months now, and so after looking at videos for tendinitis, tendonitis, achilles tendon and ankle tendons tear and similar; I finally found something that reflects pretty much what I've been suffering all this time. I didn't hurt my foot in any way before this. The only thing that comes to mind is my achilles popping a couple times, the pain was like a 6-7 but I remember it going away after a couple hours each time. I don't even remember how long ago this was. All I know is that one day all of sudden the area described here on the side of my left ankle/leg started to hurt and the pain hasn't gone away since. Gets to the point where if I walk for too long(say longer than 10 mints) I start to limp🙄 the pain is so bad. At least now I know what kind of doctor to seek and have an idea as to what I might have.

    I have high arches. My left arch is much higher than my right. And blue cross/blue shield insurance company refuses to pay for custom orthotics to correct the supination even though it was recommended by a podiatrist. Since the age of 17 my left foot/leg in particular has had its run of the course - 3 metatarsal stress fractures, osteochondritis dissecans of the knee and currently peroneal tendonitis. I do not know what blue cross insurance is shielding, but it certainly is not their clients health.

    Please can you offer some advice. I have just had an MRI back with the diagnosis of peroneal tenosynovitis.
    My main issue is lack of dorsiflexion at the ankle which is very frustrating and limiting when it comes to activities such as sport and squatting as I am unable to get into a good position. I have been suffering with this limited dorsiflexion for many years now despite many strategies such as acupuncture, self-myofascial release and muscle strengthening.
    In day to day life I don't experience any pain at the ankle or foot, when I used to go running or play football my calfs would get particularly tight the next day and occasionally some ankle soreness.
    I sprained my ankles regularly when I was younger playing football with no initial rehab the first few times which is likely to be a mediator of the issues I have now.
    I really want to be able to get full dorsiflexion at the ankle so I can squat properly. Do you have any advice specific to my case?

    Hello I have a peroneal strain so the doctor says, it occured 4 days ago. went to the doctor yesterday no mri but did a xray. Doc says no bruising or swelling enough to rule for tear but I am still extremely sore. Is it possible to have a tear withought evidence of swelling or bruising?

    • @enufots4621
      @enufots4621 Před 5 lety +2

      It's been a year since you posted. Has your peroneal strain heals over time? How long did it take? What home remedies did you try? Btw, you did not mention where your pain was? Mine is right where the peroneal tendon comes down around the ankle and inserts into the BASE OF THE 5TH METATARSAL. Been aching for 3 months with some pain, but no bruising or swelling. I did not sprain the ankle or anything, but it just came on suddenly from working out at the gym. I think it might coincide with the fact i started using the treadmill, playing Pickleball, and been a bit overweight & out of shape.

    I tried the New Balance 928 shoe you suggested but it did not fit my foot well at all. The shoe is way too narrow and long, and the tongue is way too short. It slides under the tied laces. I tried different sizes and widths and could not get a good fit. I'm wearing the New Balance 990v5 now. Is the 990 a good shoe to wear for Peroneal Tendonitis?

    • @sl2608
      @sl2608 Před rokem

      I'll answer my own question. YES. The 990v5 and Powerstep Pinnacle insoles have helped a lot. I cut back on my daily walks too and do no more than 20 mins at a time at a normal pace, nothing vigorous. The NB 928v3 recommended in this video caused sudden onset of low back pain. Stopped wearing them, back pain went away.

      Asking about both. 1) are they slippery? 2) do they dig into the peroneal tendons? (Each shoe is doing that for me) 3) are they soft/cushioned? Thank you

    • @sl2608
      @sl2608 Před rokem

      @@Gabby-hw7my 1) Neither are slippery. Both have very good tread and grip well. I would say the 990v5 has the best tread of the two, but both are good. 2) No, for me they do not dig into the Peroneal Tendon. I've tried MANY shoes that do, Brooks were the worst. But this also depends on your particular foot, its height in the shoe, custom inserts, etc. You just have to try them. 3) Both are cushioned well and very comfortable. The soles are firm, not soft. Keep in mind, the 928 is a MOTION CONTROL shoe with a firmer sole. Some people find motion control shoes uncomfortable and cannot wear them. They do not bend at all and have a high instep. Again, you just have to try them. Of the two, I find the 990v5 the most comfortable. *Another recommendation: New Balance 993. It's similar to the 990v5 but fits my foot a little better and has a more solid supportive sole which I like. Hope this helps you some.

      @@Gabby-hw7my I tried the 928 and it is a very supportive shoe that does give some relief to the area under the ankle and outside of the foot. However, for me the shoe has one major flaw that made it unwearable. The tongue is way too short -- so short that it slides under the laces and bunches up under them. I had to keep trying to trying to pull it out but it was too short to reach it. Very uncomfortable! If New Balance corrects this in the next update to the 928v3, which would be a version 928v4, I might consider trying it again, but only if the tongue is considerably longer. This is an unfortunate trend NB has been repeating in all their shoes lately -- sizing them smaller and shortening the tongue. The only NB shoe I have found that works for me that has a nice, long, well-padded, comfortable tongue is the 993. A comfortable and very supportive shoe.

I have had it for months already (I think it was half year) and I thought it's just a temporary thing so I ignored it. I'm not an athletic person, but I am overweight. I have this only in my right foot. Also, am I right that this is one of those things that gives pain in the morning? From my perspective, I thought it was a great video. The doctor clearly pointed out the Cause, or the Where the injury occurs. But what I would look to see in a video like this, is exactly where the Patient feels pain. Where the pain begins, and if that pain spreads to other parts post hoc. I guess what I am trying to convey is; Here is the Where and possibly the How the injury occurs(video demonstrated that to perfection!), and Here is the Where that the Patient begins to feel pain. Then(then), Here is the secondary pain the the Patient begins to feel( I assume when such and such tendon had enough). IDK, my feet hurt, and hurt bad! I've seen honestly less than 10, maybe 8 foot doctors and at the time had incredible insurance. That's a lot of cortisone injections(3); foot wrappings, foot brace, different types of molds for orthotics(so creative) steroids via pill[2 diff classifications], x-rays, MRI, creams, alternative medications, vitamins, R U diabetic(I'm not), you name it! I'm a Bandido Desperato begging for the Doc to just cut my feet off Please! They are of zero use to me past 20 minutes of standard labor. I hate walking to the neighbors house.. I dredge rolling the trash cans down my driveway. I will not ask for pain pills, *%&#'n over that Oscar Mayor Boloney(Why can't i spell boloney GDI, maybe it's google). I reside around the Tacoma Washington area. Sorry for my wretched grammar. A paragraph would have been considerate, however you Doc's write in chicken scratch any way. I will not beg for help, no... But if by chance this message reaches a colleague, or some experimental stem cell fusion nuclear foot person whom you know which happens to be 300 miles from my area, then I'm begging. This entire response was not intended to be a plea. Apologies..

      The supportive shoes and orthotic are permanent changes he has to make, not temporary treatment. It fixes the problem by taking stress off the Peroneal tendons. And it prevents future problems by correcting and controlling foot motion -- as long as he continues to wear the shoes/orthotics. He explains all this in the video. And you can tell from looking at the patient's legs that he is an older man, not a young one.
