I always wondered what became of Postman Pat. Now I know, he sprayed his van blue and grew his hair.
Wow a viva van! A mate of mine had one and 4 of us used to go everywhere in it up and down the country in the mid 1970s what a van happy days
This guy was the hero of drag week 2014 , he stopped to help everyone stuck on the road .. Hats off to you sir !
Awesome to David Freiburger too. #RoadKill kicks ass! :)
guess you seen it at drag week too. that's one badass car for sure.
“Wacky cause there are too many Micks in the world” this man... is a legend
That bentley may have beaten it but i know who was having more fun and had $250k left over :)
First driving job I had was driving one of those vans. Talk about basics, speedo, temperature gauge, heating was either on or off, no radio.......that was it . Easy to drive, not reliable, horn decided by itself when it would work, loved it.
well done wacky drag week is no joke to win anything there is killer
+Hoagie Sherlin it shows a true mechanic and gear head from the wallet warriors
I had a yellow ex BT HA van in London, brilliant little van.
Backin the 70's small vans were all the rage for customising. I had a Bedford HA customised at the time, Custom Car magazine (is that still around? ) built a Ford Escort van around the same period.
good old Yam Yam there... great fun spotting the places they went in the van :D
Awesome, I can imagine Guy Martin liking this van
Micks a friend of mine, nicest bloke you will ever meet.. altho one day he did mention that he had spent the better part of 2 weeks taking every bolt out the van and filing the ends down by a mm just for a tiny bit more weight saving. He lives up to the name wacky.
That sounds about right. I know the guy who owns that viva y9u see at the start. Also a kicking sleeper!
I'm from Manila ...we had a Vauxhall Viva when I was 10 years old...
have you watch hyperdrive?
Wacky got that thing into the 11s on Drag Week, hats off to him. Loved seeing him on Hot Rod.
Fantastic to see wacky mick in action at retro rides meet at Malory 👍👍👍
What an entertaining little van. I like it alot. A true funny car.
DUDE done drag week ROADKILL
+jay “clowning loud” dogg roadkill ftw
yeah, i remember folk from roadkill as well. great wee program :)
awesome and very inspirational
This is what modifyig cars is all about
"Theres nothing childish about whst he makes here" - I love hot rods and that, but lets be honest there is something very childish about a viva van packing a motor like that, and I love it!
Wacky Mick and his "Badford" van were on Hyperdrive as well, maybe in the same US visit mentioned. Not the highest score but definitley the best rig! That is what sleepers are all about😎
Yeah, the van went fast, but the lack of drift and the confussion that causes drive in a dark way with open spaces where obstacles for Mick, i really want him for the second season.
What a bloke!
I remember seeing that van on Roadkill. That has made me want to take my MG midget to Hot Rod Drag Week. Might need a little more power first though 😆
Great bloke.. will help anyone who broke down
Drag week. Love it
Even if I won the euro millions I’d still choose the van every time
Wish it was a small block Chevy lump tho'
Your missus wouldn't agree 😂😂😂
I had one when i was a lad striped it down to bear metal painted cream and red wheel, grill, even head light rims along with wing mirrors,a good mate an i put the viva 2000ltr engine gear box back end it was easy back then
Hard as nails Van !! Love it 😆😆😆😆😆
my uncle davis he has eight of these old bedford hf vans , he used to run a plumbing co in the 70`s that used them , when he closed it the vans went to his farm and are still in his barn :-)
I knew that little blue brawler looked familiar!
glad he made it out to the US with it
Yup, Postman Pat on acid! Wacky Mick is a fiendish genius! I love the wry, laconic brummy accent that underplays everything. Gold!
To be honest if the Bedford could lay down the power of its engine with suitable grip, rather than spinning it off, it would have had the Bentley, easily!
It's more black Country accent than brummie, dudley is my bet
@@mrcheese4248 spot on. I think he comes from dudley
that van is wicket. i love it
hell yes SLEEPES
Didn’t this guy appear on Netflix, and kept going the wrong way?
yeah
Still registered as a 1256cc eng..
My Dad had 3 HA vans when he worked with the council. We managed 0 to 60 in 27 seconds and 78mph flatout.
4:03 David Freiburger, Bam!!
Is this the guy who went on Hyperdrive and got lost
yes and lost his way throughout the course but two obstacle that he's very good at. Speed Lane and Force Perspective
Van is the great. Have a ex gas board Combo van maybe I should do the same. :-))
I want Mick for Hyperdrive's second season, he needs another chance.
Beast, I wonder what he did for suspension and brakes
I hope there's a cage hidden in that van somewhere, that thing did not look stable at all. Wacky is a cool character tho :D
7:42 looks like they are going at about 40mph
Well done wacky
He might have bought it for £300 quid but i wonder how much money he put into it?
I see you on the classic VW Beetles page on facebook sometimes :)
Josh Briggs yup i'm on quite a few of those pages on FB, i love classic air cooled VWs :)
I wonder if air resistance limited the van
That's the great thing about it. No aerodynamics to give the game away. A great little sleeper.
*файно!*
7:38 buses behind them????
+Stu Preston Brunty is many things. You have a few Cold War era jets in a couple of places (most of them are runners, including English Electric Lightnings, Hunters, Buccaneers, a Canberra, and more), some large static aircraft in another area (Ex RAF VC-10's, a Super Guppy etc...)........and a whole shitload of various types of vehicles being stored in big lumps around the site for various companies. It's a really interesting place to visit.
Calibra turbo engine? 500 hp? Bollocks, not without completely changing bottom end. Conrods snapat about 300 Bhp
Maybe he meant 500 with the nitrous on, and he did the Bentley drag race without nitrous? That might explain the 3-tonner having more acceleration.
just to be clear none of the cars shown in this video are hotrods please get your facts straight !!! but i love the van, always liked the concept of the sleeper the more mundane the car the better !!!!!!!
What rear axle is in that thing? I can't think of anything small enough that could handle that kind of power 🤣🤣
"Sleeper" with stickers wtf...
+Knob Bonk 99% of the people on the road will think it's an old van with random stickers. Furthermore I think most people on the road wouldn't even batch an eye when this van drives by. Yet it has over 500 BHP. This is a legit sleeper in my opinion.
The ßtickers can come off
Hey Freiberger. You always unexpectedly show up sometimes lol.
1 st motor van was ha van bedford
LOOKS LIKE WACKY BEEN ON THE WACKY BACKY
Ok so I know the van runs mid 11s at 120mph in the quarter so whats the Bentley capable of? It almost seems like the van should've won to me.
C20LET (:
A viva HA was my first car in 1974, I never thought of doing this to it.
Registered as 1256cc and a historic vehicle which is a bit naughty as the engine is not 40 years old!
Shhhhhhh!!
I've see that van
When a sedan is wider longer and taller than a van...
My little HA was dark blue and never had that power!!!!
I smell something fishy here!...that drag race was staged!...but why?
+Audiwan Kenobi it wasn't staged.
jackburnford van brake lights @7:41?
Hyperdrive episode 3
Americans don't know vauxhall? Better ship the insignia.
old engine The only way I know Vauxhall is from watching Top Gear, and maybe Gran Turismo 4
Canadians only know Vauxhalls as Envoy Epics, have a Google Search.👌
Why do I feel that this thing only has around 350hp? Listening to the launch sounded like my Honda...Just sayin.
Jackie Scholl I know it sounds like shit..im talking about the full 1.87 seconds it takes to spool up, the bogg at 30 ft and the slow ass time. My shitty Honda spools up in less than a second. 350 HP max..
Claims it's a sleeper, covers it in "drag week" stickers.
+Benjamin Graham 99% of the people on the road will think it's an old van with random
stickers. Furthermore I think most people on the road wouldn't even
batch an eye when this van drives by. Yet it has over 500 BHP. This is a
legit sleeper in my opinion.
I bet there's a lot of cars in the car park at drag events with less than 100bhp and stickers.
drag week to most people sounds like a transvestite convention, so no worries
500 hp? a huracan can whack his ass
Alright if you have a couple hundred grand spare
I find the drag race was staged so the Bentley won.
If the van weighed a third of the Bentley and had nearly equal power then the van would have three times the power to weight ratio of the Bentley.
Having loads more torque wouldn't really make much of a difference until higher gearing was involved.
+Tony Freestone Actually the torque benefits comes in from the moment the vehicle starts moving, HP is for the higher speeds.
+Corrado VRz (CorradoVR6z) I agree if they were equally matched but in this case, no.
+Tony Freestone The van couldn't put any power down on the damp tarmac, kept spinning up the tyres every time the big turbo came on song
also the can may have a different gear ratio for acceleration instead of speed as it only did 150mph on the strait, the bently limo has speed comfort stuf proibaly more gears and a higher top speed.
Van brake lights @7:41?
The van would blow the big fat limo off the road. Staged.
No it wasn't
c20let power yihaaa
worlds fastest 4 door limo ? you haven't heard about Tesla ? ..... and the winer is !!!!! .... TESLA P90D ... :D
+Jackie Scholl hmmmm . and it's not need 30l/100km ....
+Jackie Scholl Technically the Bentley would be a LWB, not a limo. I'm not even using the term limo as a car that has been extended 30 feet in the middle, but way back when, when the term limo was used for a car that had an extra full size set of windows and possibly another row of seats.
ngl that drag race look fake af
