Mr Allsop, can you please help me with the exam structure for 9489 History A level paper 1? Should I do for part A a paragraph for similarities and one on differences (in each explaining why they exist with context and proveneance) and a conclusion, and for part B one evaluative one for each source and a conclusion? Many many thanks🙏🙏🙏
For part a) 15 marker questions, I was taught that you should only be focusing on key stages and facts. However I was reading the MS for the specimen paper 4, and for the first Russia example (1905 revolution) it suggested that 'students may consider the long-term issues" which lead to the revolution. The generic MS states that you can only get in the top band of 11-15 if you include all the 'key events' and I am wondering if causes is included in this, and if you will lose marks for not including causes.
Also, for part b) 25 markers, I am a bit confused as to how you effectively 'explain' importance? Is it good enough to state some details/evidence/stats, and say "this is important because the policy affected x million people, causing them to starve, greatly impacting their quality of life..." etc and then judge with other facets? Thank you!
Where can i find a full example on how to answer a and b questions for Germany?
a) is a 15 marker where u in detail explain the entire story (there are only a limited amount of questions they can ask) about a certain event (eg- night of the long knives)
b) is where u present different facets of the question and factor in your opinion on which one is the most important. eg- was reparations the reason for economic decline in weimar germany?

I checked the syllabus and the core content “questions” had changed to previous years in the 2024 syllabus, so would it be useless to solve past papers that examines the core content? Im a bit confused on how to approach it because im planning on studying independantly and sitting the exams this Autumn. Thank you in advance!
