Good God:
Brilliant
I love how passionate Kirk is when he talks about his guitars!
He’s a true enthusiast
@@axeslinger44 absolutely
"It's known for it's neck pickup... it's also known for it's middle postition pickup" 😂
also very anoying how James turn down just quickly
@@2000jago I completely disagree with you that “Kirk Hammett is one of the greatest guitar players” of “our time”
I’ve listened to Metallica for 35 years and this is the most I’ve heard him speak.
I've listened to Metallica for 51 years now. Best band.
@@BrSo-no3vz so you listened to them before they existed as a band 😆
@Br So how can that be???🤨 you sure about that🧐🤥
@@burnsZY85🤣🤣🤣
I listened to Metallica first
The fact that the guitar actually gets played and we were able to hear it... vs it just being behind glass somewhere in a museum with a little placard with info is already a massive level of justice. This also makes me realize we rarely hear from Kirk. He should speak up more often.
Agreed. Good thing Indiana Jones didn't find it first.
And Justice For Greenie
Wouldn't the wires on it to the humbuckers eventually need replaced and it would lose that sound?
@@manager4409 Wires are wires. They’re all made out of the same shit lol
@@hesch-tag or jim irsay.
It's a blessing that Greeny is in Kirk's hands and not in some collector's vault.
Kirk's love for Greeny makes it the best owner possible, enjoy it, you deserve it!!!!
Yes, great it's in the hands of a real player, but I would have preferred a blueser (just not Bonamassa - he owns too many vintage guitars as it is!) 😂
Honestly kudos to Hammet for such passion.. it's clear.
how can you not love kirk
For real
I really don't know 😊
Easy
easily
So many haters lol
Vocal haters too
Wonder what they’d do on this show with a guitar to play and a story to tell…
How’s Kirk to his roadie? “Can you bring Greeny to me please?” What a legend
How else is he supposed to say it?
@@turtleneckferret He said “please”. Most rockstars and celebrities wouldn’t bother.
He probably helps him paint his nails.
@@turtleneckferret for real!!!!!!
@@davidharding200 Being extra nice to whoever handles Greenie ;)
I love how James is always in a stance whether he's playing anything or not, lol.
It is nice to see how passionate Kirk is regarding his guitars ! He is a true musician, in every sense of the word. 👍
If you go to the truck stop in Denver, there’s a glory hole Kirk goes to often and you can really experience his passion if you put your mouth on the glory hole when he’s there.
@@BrSo-no3vz lol, I was going to say pretty much the same thing
@@turtleneckferret because it’s a true story.
The way James always rips on Lars is actually funny af but you know there’s love behind it
I remember back in ‘92 they made passionate love in my bed. I watched.
Absolutely
Lars had to make it about him....what a jerk...
So true!
Love how animated Kirk was in this interview
He was almost emotional, I love his passion
He always is when they give him a chance to speak
Opiate pills kicked in.
@@alannashaw he always have this chance
@@gabeprice3333 mean
Gotta love Metallica. This is why Robert’s quiet personality fits so well with this trio.
He wants to keep his job
I think if Howard Stern interviewed him, he would definitely elaborate to answer his questions, and discuss his experiences.
@@Paraclete333 That too but he just knows his place. Knowing when to not say anything at all is almost more important than saying the perfect thing!
Fun fact: when Robert got the job, they had him remove his vocal chords, so he can’t talk during interviews.
He has a minor participation in the band than Jason. James is a control freak, and Lars ultimately. That's why they kicked out Dave, too much personality and creativity.
It's really awesome how Kirk gets enthusiastic and talkative when asked about his favourite instrument. Greeny is special alright.
kirk is so passionate about greeny... its a beautiful guitar, i have seen it up close and its 🔥
He’s also passionate about weenie.
Lucky youuu
Talking about guitars really livens up Kirk.
If you ever want a good conversation with Kirk, bring up Greeny, classic horror movies, or UFO.
It's *this* particular guitar though. It's the Stradivarius equivalent of an electric guitar.
it would be better if he learned to play, and not to speak
@@sergeykwklsh1976 Learn to write chart topping songs and then you can speak.
I love how Kirk Respects the guitars past players and connected with it!
Bravo it's being played!!..it's not meant to be a museum piece
Gotta respect the passion for your craft. That guitar is literal magic for him. It’s a beautiful thing.
I love 59’s and the mystique , but I also can’t help but think of Spinal Tap when he’s talking about the sustain, lol.
Ha! Same here...." You can go out for a bite and still hear that one."
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh
Don't even look at it.
Just imagine if he had plugged it in... : )
That gem of musical history is in good hands.
This guitar is a legend on it's own, so cool to see it's still being played by another legendary guitar player
The History of that Guitar is incredible 🎸
I didn't knew that it was played by all those guitar legends before, I know that they didn't owned it, but just to know that Beck, Hendrix or Harrison hold that thing and played it makes it a VERY unique instrument for itself
Gary Moore did that guitar justice.
I'll always think of Gary Moore when I see it
@@Soulman786- I personally think of Peter Green but that's purely because he's the original owner
Saw Gary Moore quite a few times 80s! Must have seen him use it though was more used him using the red Strat
JD Simo should get next.
@@rsterling6329 + 1
0:33 bombastic side eye of Kirk in response to James' little laugh
That tone is out of this world
Any humbucke with the saturation would sound much the same. It's not magic. I sell them, make them and play them.
Not really. Gary Moore had a much better tone and he played better too.
Undoubtedly the most legendary Les Paul in existence. RIP Peter Green, the real GOAT
Gary Moore did some decent things as well with that guitar. ❤
Rory Gallaguer! or SRV? the goat.
Kirk’s beauty shines through in his passion. I can’t think of a better person to carry that green torch
That guitar finds the most worthy player and rewards them with amazing music.
The guitar that recorded "Albatross", the most heavenly rock instrumental ever put to record.
Believe that was recorded with a Strat in fact. But maybe he wrote it on that.
Cool to see the Stradivarius of guitars get some mainstream attention. Good on Stern for it.
That sounded pretty F-ing sweet. The neck pickup is nice.
This is a neck reverse pick-up. This is why sound so great. I think that Gary Moore or Peter Green do that and stay.
Good to see it in such good hands and that it is well loved. I get a little 🥲 seeing that guitar. So much musical history. Peter Green created and performed some of the greatest music ever with that instrument. Incomparable.
I love that Kirk has that guitar, especially because people give him so much shit for his guitar playing.
Which is bizarre. He’s a solid player.
hes excellent guitarist and i would only place that guitar with him slash or joe bonamassa pretty much
@@Labyrinth1010 solid player is a bit of an understatement
@@cole3774 agreed! He’s awesome. Great teacher too. Back when I was learning, his articles/lessons in various guitar magazines were among the best.
I think it's pretty obvious the critics have no idea about Metallica at this point. They've been hearing this shit for 40 years, they still don't get it.
Love these type of stories
GREAT PASSION AND RESPECT WENT HE TALKS ABOUT GREENY....I LOVE THAT IN A MUSICIAN MAKES HIM AUTHENTIC-
I think it’s cool how much he loves the instrument I can relate to that
I'm so pleased Kirk has this great sounding guitar and will add even more history to it.
How good is Kirk, it’s the most I’ve heard him speak, legend!
Wow. The people that have played that guitar. It's amazing.
Kirk is a real influence on me, I dig his playing. This is a good home for Greenie.
Love this content and also love them playing riffs in this setting because you can really see what they're doing❤ for a guitarist this is awesome
I could have listened to this story for hours.. We need a doco done on this guitar...
I love that he mentioned Rory had played it.
A criminally underrated musician
@@corn9251Yes indeed a unsung hero in the world of music, a true bluesman.
What a legend and what a guitar
What a great story.....and I love how James keeps ribbing Lars! 🤣
Now I understand why I cried in the Unforgiven solo last year when they played in Buenos Aires: Kirk was using the greeny. I love Kirk
You have to love Kirk. He loves his instrument. Hes a true master.
god damn the ones that played that guitar already, really a relic on rock n' roll music history, and it continues whit its life now, on metal, thanks to Kirk
Looking at Greeny's pickups, the neck pickup is installed upside down. (you can tell from the orientation of the pole pieces) That would explain why it is out of phase with the bridge pickup.
Its not just that, apparently the magnets were messed with as well during a maintenance. Its one of the reasons reverse engineering that middle sound had been so elusive over the years.
What an incredible history as to the list of artists that have played that guitar!!
Kirk is my favorite member of this band…..and I love them ALLLL!!
Thank you.
For adding a few thousand dollars of equity to my 1991 R9 Gibson copy.
I bought it back in 2000 for $800.
I also have a Page R9, #1 still in the box!
Kirk is just a treasure.
KIRK ,is to me one of the coolest and humble people on the planet. I get pissed because I feel he is highly, highly underrated. He is already a legend, just time will tell.❤❤❤❤❤
What a story! Awesome
It's very cool that this guitar has survived and continues to be played. What a history!
The legend, i love them 🤘 greetings from Indonesia 🇮🇩
Kirk is very respectful regarding this guitar and also Peter which means a lot to all Peter Green fans. The instrument is in good sensible hands.
WOW! The magic inside that guitar. I can't even imagine holding it much less playing it. Fucking cool. Thanks Howard
That is an amazing sounding guitar. I can't explain it
So cool! And what a sound.
I love this band.♥️
It's great Kirk plays it on stage. I mean it's been played Gary Moore for 30 years, among others. It's meant to be out there getting used.
Kirk is adorable hahha he loves what his doing so much . RESPECT
My god, what a story that guitar has. Gary Moore, always a fave of mine
Its gorgeous !
So basically Kirk Hammett owns one of the greatest guitars of all time.
Kirk went into a LOT more detail about acquiring Greeny on Dean Delrays podcast, Let There Be Talk. For anyone interested.
u can just add a push pull pot for phase switching or reverse the pickup. But given the history of the guitar, it’s a keeper 🎸
Most coherent Kirks ever been. Love it
the "greeny" sounds beyound awesome
Kirk..favorite guitar player of all time
....and now in the hands of the most iconic lead metal guitarist and riff masters of our time.
Love early Fleetwood Mac
Thanks for the jams Peter
Usually, with guitars, you need to play it yourself to understand why it's a great guitar, but with this one you can hear that tone and just get it.
I think we can all agree that this is the most we all have ever heard Kirk talk....EVER!!!
He's a blues rocker at heart
Happy Birthday Kirkland 🎂
FULL EPISODE PLEEEASEEE
it does have its own timbre, but idont think the guitar's timbre matters much,i think it's the music that is the most important; however Kirk Hammett is at such a highest level, that he already appreciates those ultimate details with passion
Gibson will be releasing some limited edition Custom Shop copies and a Standard version is rumored to be coming later, very cool guitar!
Kirk is super cool! He is himself to the fullest!
Beautifull❤guitar😎🔥and great story❤
Brilliant 👏 What a Great Guitar sound 👌 😀 👍
You can tell Kirk has knocked one out to this guitar bless him
Thank you for this.
The sound It’s got to be in the pickup … I mean it starts there obviously kirks hands etc makes it truly sing
great story, love the 'Mac and Peter Green!
Kirk is such a sweetheart
Una chitarra leggendaria ..... Non sono sicuro sia nelle mani giuste .....!!
Also, he forgets to mention the neck pickup, is mounted backwards & that's why it sounds the way it does, out of phase in the middle position & in the neck position.
One of the magical musical items in the world.
The Green Manalishi (with the two pronged crown). It was the last song Green made with Fleetwood Mac before leaving the band.
Kirk is such a guitar geek!
I'd love to talk guitars with kirk. He's such a guitar nerd
Holy shit, that guitar is basically a sacred relic now.
Lars's reaction made it even more funnier.
That neck pickup is beautiful.
Robert Trujillo has Jaco Pastorius' bass. That's probably even cooler!
That is one magic guitar!
