I don’t like this version because it’s just a tribute band. A band should resemble what they are and this does not. If you believe Artimus Pyle Ronnie would fire everyone from the band including Gary. So if you believe Artimus it’s a horrible tribute to Ronnie.

@@Rangerman69420 I would have no problem with the going out as a tribute band, and I would listen to it but calling themselves Lynyrd Skynyrd with one guy who was in the band in the 70s (Ricky Medlocke doesn’t count) is disrespectful to the legacy of the band. also I don’t like Johnny’s country style with Skynyrd. If you believe what Artimus Pyle saids Ronnie would fire everyone who is the band even Gary. It’s the same thing with Guns N’ Roses.

I am a great judge of talent and to me, I hav e never seen such a raw natural talent as Collins. No one. Look at him on stage! HE ruled. He was the cheerleader. Screw Medlock. Johnny did a great job for his brother, but they turned commercial. The real band was the real thing. PS: R VZ's ex wife is a bitch who sued Artimus Pyle! BTW: I will see Artimust this summer in Ashville. I also know one of Allens sisters, and the nurse who helped him! All in JAX. RIP: AC; Medlock: Retire

This is as close to the “original lineup”as we can get and to me they sound just as good 4 decades after that devastating day.

@@kennethchambers9949 I would not put Cher or Donna Summer in the R&R Hall of Fame. That is sacred. An old friend of mine (former member of Metallica) is one of the blessed few to be there. I believe KISS earned its spot, but I was unaware they made it there before Skynyrd.

Too critical is right ! Johnny, Gary, Rickey, they been there for ages..you're assuming other musicians would make this work better..I don't think so. This is as close as we get and it sounds wonderful.

You people are too critical! IMO, If Gary Rossington was up there BY HIMSELF it would still be Lynyrd Skynyrd! But then you got Johnny Van Zant, the full blood brother of Ronnie who sings great and is paying tribute every night to the brother he loves and misses. Plus you got Medlocke who has been in & around Skynyrd from the early days and is a legend in his own right. It would be diff if the other members were home on the couch but they're not. The current lineup considers them fallen soldiers and they're picking up the guns of their fallen brothers and are taking up the battle. Also rem Steve Gains was a replacement, so was Artimus. Bottom line, you can bet your ass the spirit of the past members are with the current lineup. You can even feel their presence at the shows. Lastly, rem what your Grandpa told you when you were young... "When you don't have anything good to say, don't say nothing at all!"

The songs this particular group has made is actually pretty good IMO,they're not as good as the original Skynyrd songs but they're good nonetheless! But I will say that the original songs told a story from start to finish while the new songs not quite so much.
This seems like a competent, interesting band, whomever they are. They certainly aren't Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Thank you. After reading the other posts I was kind of wondering what the hell.. Does anyone even remember the original Skynyrd? These are nothing like who they pretend to be. They are okay but not Lynyrd Skynrd. Just like Queen was over after Freddie Mercury died, YES was no longer YES when all the originals left individually and posers kept their name forcing them to form their own band (We all knew who the REAL Yes was), Styx was no longer Styx after Dennis DeYoung left (He made them what they are).
You can't lose 2/3 of a band in a plane crash including the main component Ronnie Van Zant and expect to play under the same name and expect the old fans who actually know them to accept them as what they they think they are.

Actually once Garys' gone that's it Lynyrd Skynyrd will be gone as they can only live as long as one original member is alive and performing. Legal issues would ensue.
@@coltstreeter very true. They used to have the rule of three, which was started by Judy Van Zandt, but that apparently that is no longer in use and hasn't been for sometime. Still good to see them performing though.
This band, calling themselves Lynyrd Skynyrd, in my opinion, is a sad substitute of what was once a truly GREAT BAND. I saw them in 1975 at Liberty Bowl Stadium in Memphis. This current group of musicians aren't even close to the original band - not in the same universe. Frankly - I don't believe they are even a good tribute band. I realize they are making a fortune. Hopefully - the families of the real Skynyrd are sharing in the proceeds.

They are all great musicians on their own with the exception of Donnie. As a collection of musicians they do not even come close and they may convince a generation of kids longing for the music and the musicians that created Lynyrd Skynyrd but it died with Ronnie,Steve, Cassie and Dean. Hey, come down to Mrytle beach and catch the Original Drifters. You're gonna love them.

I love Skynyrd and I have tickets to see them March 15th in Vancouver. I am a little dismayed now after watching this. The musicians are good but they don't have the Skynyrd vibe on stage. Just play your instrument and stop vying for attention and spinning around and smooshing with piano player. Honestly just putting Artimus behind the drums would work wonders and get closer to each other on stage and just jam out together instead of everyone so far apart and no comradery. Bring back the cool vibe of Skynyrd and just play the songs. Damn I really hated to post this because I am die hard fan. Rickey tone it down and sorry but Sparkey just doesn't fit. Stop trying to be like rock stars with all the stereotypical stances and just be cool. looks like Ricky thinks he should be center of attention. This is really bad...I just hate to say it but it is. Bringing a bass player that resembles Leon? sighhh...enough...the drummer...oh god I need a drink.
