  • Iago is the third largest part written by William Shakespeare and remains one of the most memorable Shakespeare characters of the tragic genre. The evil Iago plays Othello like a puppeteer , exploiting their intimate relationship, and the innocent Desdemona pays the ultimate price. If you're studying this play for A Level you might want to watch this free video tutorial. Just don't forget your handkerchief.

Ive been out of school for years but I'm still fascinated by Shakespeare and Iago is such an interesting character. Maybe one of my favorites. Great analysis bro!

Ever since I read the story and did a 12 page paper on it for college back in 2014, this story has arguably been my favorite one by Shakespeare

I've thought for a long time Iago's hate runs much deeper than the offense of being passed over. Even the cuckholding charge is suspect and it seems Iago doesn't believe it
I think Iago hated Othello naturally, the whole time he was associated with him and once he was passed over he had no reason left to redirect it. He may have turned on Othello anyway, even if he had been promoted because it was he end of the line.
And the rumors of Othello cuckholding him is likely a reflection of how sycophantic to Othello Iago had appeared throughout his career.
