Good one! Thanks!
Interesting comparison, something to keep in mind for future releases. Also, when wearing all black against a black background, backlight is your friend 😎
Thank you for this, question: I have been using Neat Video with resolve and the results are great, HOWEVER, when the clip has speed changes (reversed, speed ramps, etc) the noise reduction from Neat Video is not as effective, and it messes up with the timing of the clip, making it jumpy on the first few frames. I have researched everywhere and others experience the same issue but there is no fix other than pre-rendering the speed-ramped clip and applying neat video to the newly created/rendered clip. Have you experienced this? Would love to know if this new version of Resolve fixes that issue
Hi and thank you for the info and comparison. I’m curious on your opinion regarding the Resolve OFX Noise Reduction vs Ultra NR vs NEAT
Resolve NR is basically the same effect as Ultra NR, NeatVideo is still king for preserving details after NR
@@DannyGan lol what a nonsense. we're talking about video where images move. any other NR than ultraNR in resolve still has a lot of grain...
Neat video is using 11 frames for comparison to create its NR profile. If you use temporal NR on DR, it should have similar results to Neat Video.
Hmm I doubt it will give better results, because it not doing a better job with spatial, so I don’t expect it to get any better with temporal which blurs each frame to achieve less noise.
On the topic of this, to compare both tools apples to apples is to use them the same way. I believe they both took 3 clicks in the video. To add more steps for temporal is not a fair comparison anymore. So even if it does give a better results, Neat Video is NOT dead. Just my pov
@@DannyGanb/c it doesn’t take 3 clicks…..biiaaaaaassseeeddd
Muchas graicas
Great comparison! I'm on an Intel Mac and get poor performance with Neat Video (1-2 fps). What system are you on that gets 24 fps with Neat Video?
M1 MacStudio 64GB RAM
You should put the Analyse Point of both in the same place to watch the comparision...
Why not let the AI do its thing, that’s a fairer comparison
Interesting that each NR picked a different spot as the optimal spot. I wonder if you moved the analyse box to the same spot that Neat chose, if the detail retention might have been more similar. Also do they both use the internal render cache or is Neat video using it's own render caching? Like most things though, part of the decision making is that the Ultra NR is not something that a person needs to purchase after purchasing Studio, so if you don't need or use very much NR - the added price is also a consideration.
I wonder also if you used the temporal NR first ( set it up ) if that would influence how much the Ultra would use in it's analysis? Because if the numbers are lower - it might be faster as well.
Thanks Jim, I might do a follow-up video with all of the feedback I got. Thanks for your input!
Definitely seeing the issue with UNR. Lets see how many Beta versions they go through to tighten it up. Shooting on Venice, I see finer blocks of noise that make it somewhat easier to clean up in post, but if Neat maintains it's better performance after DR 19 full version, that might be something BM can re-work in a future update.
Yup, I’m sure it will work with standard/minimal noise just alright. But for problematic clips is where Neat Video really shines. I do hope BMD does tidy it up in the full version. Will make an update video if they do.
Thank you for this comparison. One thing I noticed is that you used a different area to analyze for the Neat Video NR. Is that something that could make a difference in the outcome?
Yup I’m taking that into account also, for a fair comparison of both, the AI should pick a spot it feels best. You can make an argument that DR noise detection tool is not smart enough to pick an optimal spot. But to be fair, I did the same amount of click to get the presented results. That was my main objective there. Hope this helps to clear things!
@@DannyGan 👍 Thanks
Yes, would have been nice to see them analysing the same spot, as of now like you said it's beta so this comparison is flawed from the start
@@attainableaudio4533 Exactly..If you manually changed the spot UNR used to the spot Neat "found" and the results was much closer then that would indicate that DR needs to improve the algorithm it uses to find the best reference spot and not the actuall NR engine. Nothing wrong with being flexible in the comparison as long as what you are doing regarding extra steps is communicated 😀
is it worth swapping to davinci just for color grading? coming from premiere pro. I purchased davinci studio but im very comfortable with premiere pro. is it worth doing the edit in premiere then bring it into davinci for color grading?
@allen7136 I used Premiere for ages but recently switched to DR. I'll never go back. Premiere playback was horrible on my M1 MacBook in any resolution. DR plays everything I throw at it on the edit page smoothly. Some colour effects do slow it down. But most importantly, the ability to go back and forth quickly between edit page and colour page (and any other page) will speed up your workflow enormously. Totally recommend keeping it all in DR although you can certainly do the export to XML and import to DR for grading. It will just need to be done each time you make a change in Premiere Edit. FYI, I changed DaVinci's keyboard setup to match my old Premiere setup so it seems like I'm editing on Premiere to some extent while in DR.
I also switched from premiere. Not going back. I still need some muscle memory to get used to editing in dr. Thing is, davinci is a relatively young program, where premiere started in the 90ies. Such old programs might grow with time, and carry lots of unusable junk code with it, version per version. You really feel that in the performance of both tools. Dr is much faster in every aspect. I still use aftereffects and didnt dive into fusion yet. 🙈
don't know wjhy, when clicking analyze and moving the square, nothing really happens, i can do whatever i want, still the image will look the same as if no ultranr was applied.... any help?
Did you click analyse after moving the square?
@@DannyGan nope, i click analyse and then the square appears, if I move the square the values changes but still nothing happens
Neat video is the best for many years. No other noise reduction tool is even come close. Topaz is still far behind.
The only problem is neat seem to be not so stable with Davinci Resolve. It got crashed many times 😅
So neat video is working fine under Resolve 19?
Yup, seems that way
Neat is just the best. It’s slow, but absolutely for a reason.
Neat video is supreme since many years 🎉 it is hard to defeat
Was the davinci resolve 19 relesed?!
Official V19 not yet, just beta testing version
Neat video is king
You suppose to do the noise reduction first.
Why?
Before grading?
Hey Danny do you have a davinci course anywhere?
Yes, here it is visionarycolour.com/online-course
@@DannyGan thanks bro. Is it just color grading only? Do you have one for editing
only color grading for now
@@DannyGan just for fyi id beg for an advanced editing course
Neat video rocks
Do you work for neat video? Neat video cost extra money, this is already included on DR Studio, I can disable noise reduction and enable it when exporting, I see no problem here.
No, I do not work for Neat Video. But it is the go-to choice for many colorists in the industry.
@@DannyGan I see, I'm glad DR now has something similar included in the software.
they're definitely in the right direction!
Playback speed is not important. Final result is. So far, nobody comes close to neat video quality.
Nah, it aint close. And playback is def important.
Playback is most definitely important, Aram. LOL
That's too bad. someone really needs to fix dunes noise issues
still not as good as neat then.. that's ok. i love my neatvideo
