I was also at the festival not as a tourist but as a dancer (part of the festival). For my eight years in my "career" this is a very moment for me, and did you know that here was set a Guinness record here for the most kaba bagpipes. I am very happy that foreigners enjoy our music and culture!
Hey, amazing video, you really went out of your way to see the real Bulgaria. The father of my grandmother told her: "We are always living through hard times, because we managed to steal a peace of heaven and everyone want's to take it from us"(roughly translated) Cheers to all my Balkan brothers and sisters.
I am bulgarian living in London, sadly couldn't make it to that festival and I'm quite jealous on you both guys. Enjoy your time there and hope you have great time in Bulgaria 😍🍀
As you said, the songs were indeed written during times of war. The bagpipes we listen to are the same ones making music that we as a nation went into battle to secure our freedom from the Ottomans. This music will forever stick with us and we cherish it because it reminds us of the struggle that we went through. Excellent video! The massive flag was a little bit controversial in our mainstream media because there were a few scumbag politicians and organisations that were saying it was unnecessary and a waste of money, but every Bulgarian disagrees with them and we are happy to have it. It is currently the tallest flag in Europe!!!!! 🤍💚❤
Such a lovely video, wish I could go to the festival too but missed it this year! Fire dancing is also called Nestinarstvo and the dancers are nestinari. I hope you also manage to see some folklore dances too, some of the professional dancers dance so fast with their feet, it's a great sight! P.S. Subscribed!
Thanks so much for the information! We spent so much time watching all of the dancing it was incredible. The whole festival was a blast ❤️ Glad you enjoyed 😊
If you liked this festival, you will also like the one at Zheravna. It is also like a bit of a living history thing because there is a dress code, but I believe you can rent traditional costumes there. It starts this month on the 18th. And last year there were nearly 25 000 people.
Oh, you two are so sweet! Terrific coverage of an important festival (and, as always, AWESOME food). GO BULGARIA! (Where have you been all these years?!)
go in Gela festival, its near Rojen, they will be many english speaking peoples, coz they have brotherhood, with Scotish peoples, cant explain make research,to understand me better :)
I have tears in my eyes! So so proud and happy to be bulgarian! Thank you people❤
Very happy you enjoyed the video ☺️

2:58-2:59 the man that is ringing this bells is the president of Bulgaria and he is a mig-29 fulcrum pilot and a three star general
He did a whole speech while we were there!

The fire-dancers (nestinari) are showing that Faith in God will protect you from EVERYTHING, including fire. Бог да ви благослови.🙂
