Excellent video. I'm in the process of rebuilding my wardrobe and all of your points have made me reconsider my ideas on how to start doing it.
Great video! Appreciate the images and short clips.
Always post the most useful video right when your viewers need it. I'm at the beginning of recreating my wardrobe to create my image. Thank you, Antonio
You're welcome!
Do you have an outfit that you consider the best outfit in your wardrobe, that makes you feel different and very confident?
@@atlantacabil Not yet, but soon, I've got one in mind. Luckily my style is very simple and easy to find clothes for. Do you have one?
@@maxwilliams2669 when I got of the Marines and started working in corporate I created a best outfit, then I started creating one outfit at time in different colors until I had a rotation of eight outfits so that I never have a bad outfit day. I wear alot of blues so I'm able to rotate slacks, ties and shirts that's centered around navy, black, brown and tan slacks. I don't know how many combinations I have but it would take over three weeks before you will ever see me wear the same outfit, if I do its by choice. You need to find your style profile and it will become easy to create outfits
@@maxwilliams2669 I have two shirts I’m keeping and everything else is getting swapped out. You ain’t alone brother
I love the idea of building up from a base ...it's funny I very much see a military "crawl, walk, run" approach to how you are suggesting you build a wardrobe here. I also really like that idea of paying attention to interchangeability you can focus on fewer items which will help you INVEST in items that might be a little bit more expensive but then if you take care of them can you last you a long time which actually ends up costing you less in the long-term. Great video.
This channel is my fav when comes to men's fashion, fitness, grooming, and development. It's a 10/10 for me 👌🏾💯
Just to say guys, I went through my wardrobe about 18 months ago. I had an office job, meeting clients; then 15 years ago downshifted and became a gardener. Many people had never seen me in nice clothes...but I had a wardrobe of jackets, shirts, suits so I kept the good classic stuff. Chucked the battered, worn stuff and being English I visit charity shops in well off areas so have got a brand new jacket, a suit and a waistcoat(vest) for less than £50. I have bought some quality shoes, as well as buffing up my old favourites. I dress, well overdress, for the occasion but I know I look good and so I'm confident that it's going to be ok that I'm wearing a jacket and dress shirt in a pub where everyone else is wearing jeans....I've had lots of compliments so I know it's working!
I feel the same way. When I am basically the only one among folks who wear oversized hoodies or t-shirts, tracksuit trousers or worn jeans and sneakers, I feel great and proud of myself not doing that usual faux-sporty outfits.
Great video, Antonio. This is what I was looking for when I found your channel years ago, and this is the type of video that keeps me subscribed.
Awesome, thank you!
Perfect capsule wardrobe for guys!
It would be great if you could do a video for those of us that live in warmer climates (Florida) looking to put together a timeless wardrobe for the heat.
Everything in cotton or linen
Video came out right in time. Love it, with the interchangeable wardrobe. Can't wait to combine this info for an amazing wardrobe
Antonio.. I started watching Style OG.. he got me hooked!
Your channel is awesome! Next level style mixed with Gentlemen Gazelle.
My fragrance lately had been the DRYDOWN & Justin Copland
This is the single best wardrobe video I have come across. Earned my like, comment, and subscribe!
Have seen lot of your videos over the past one month just want to say this channels come a long way & contains almost an encyclopedia on style Best of luck for future uploads
Wow, thank you!
Awesome content!
Always good information
Good advice. Thank you.
Love this video. It can never be overdone, in my opinion.
Really enjoy your videos and while I may not agree with everything, the information provided is very valuable. Thank you for what you do.
Thank you
Functionality
Correct function must be the base in building a wardrobe. Fitting must be in the middle because it is the second thing you must consider. Lastly the fabric since this is less of a concern.
Really nailed this one! I figured it out a bit too late. Better late than never.
I find black socks with sandals and a fanny pack is the height of sophistication,...in Naples, Florida.
Just ordered some new straps yesterday 👍🏻 been a customer since you first promoted them 🔥🔥🔥
Nice!! Thanks man.
Functional interchangeable and decent looking
I have a suit I wear about 2-3 times a week that cost me about $150. I have another suit that cost $450 that I wear maybe 2 times a month. I figure I am burning through my $150 suit so I will only have it a couple of years before it’s too battered to keep using, meanwhile my $450 suit will be with me for over a decade. As far as times worn I think my $150 suit will ultimately outpace my nicer suit. But I like wearing my nicer suit more.
Great Content keep it going love it
Appreciate it
This is amazing, subscribing now. thanks
Welcome aboard!
Kohl's carries a brand of t-shirts (crew, V-neck, short sleeve and long sleeve) called APT 9. I have found them to be the best fitting and least expensive t-shirts I have. Not the greatest quality, as I only get about 2 years of normal wear before they fade too much, but at the price point its' not an issue. Also, the arm holes fit well for slimmer guys. I'm, 5'-11", 170 lbs. w/o big guns and the shirts will hug my arm/biceps.
The current edition of my wardrobe is a hybrid of tastes along my style journey. I've never done the capsule wardrobe or the minimalist thing, as I prefer choices. Since gravitating away from classic menswear and letting my right brain call the shots, I occasionally (and unnecessarily) self-conflict with too many options. I take more liberties with color, texture, and fabric. I know how to dress for each situation and buy pieces that signal who I am in real-time. I know what goes with what.
Still, I can stand in front of my closet for many minutes, scan the racks and shelves, and deliberate on what to wear. Why is that?
Antonio, can you please explain why jackets are so important? I never, and I mean never, see men wearing jackets unless it’s on the job. And so few men have jobs that require jackets. So why are jackets always emphasized on your channel? When are we supposed to wear them, and why? Maybe part of my issue is because I’m a muscular frame so when I wear a jacket I look like a linebacker. My shoulders don’t need building up. So I feel like I look silly when I wear a jacket. Thank you for your guidance. Love the channel!
Hi Antonia, I am from the United Arab Emirates. I have followed your videos for some time. I came to notice the Anson belts you are recommending. Are there any retailers for Anson Belts here in UAE that you know of? Also please include more content that helps people from the Middle East. Thanks.
You might also consider a navy crew or v neck t shirt.
The issue is that the basic pieces change too. For example, today, the longer jackets look dated, whatever the color. Even the buttons of today's jackets are placed higher. The naked look may be the ultimate option.
This was helpful!
Can we get a Chino Guide?
I feel like my entire wardrobe can go in the donate and trash boxes. 🤣
.West=42.5 Inch
One important thing thing that is not mentioned is to be in relative shape, nice video.
Great point!
Style
Felt like I was in a microeconomics class again for a second there.
Speaking my language.
There’s something to be said about interchangeability to make your clothe choice easy.
It only goes so far, actually. Then people just think you are wearing the same pants to work every day.
🖤
I’m in the middle of a weight loss journey, I’m sitting at 230 lbs and I’m looking to get down to 180 - 190 lbs. Should I wait to start building a new wardrobe?
I have way too much clothing, and I wear about 20% of it - proper Pareto Principle wearer! The 80/20 rule is so spot on. I need to wear more, and not buy anything for at least a year!
Just be more intentional with seasonality and such when buying in the future.
@@Highland_Paddy Good advice, thank you. I guess I am more of an impulse type buyer.
@@alwayspooh1588 Did my other comment vanish? Well, I forget what I was going to say, but that color chart is pretty easy for me to ignore because I look fine in burgundy and navy and charcoal and I don't own any pink BUT I coordinate the colors by season along with fabric weight, blah, blah.
@@Highland_Paddy Thanks. I did not see your other comment, so I guess it did disappear. I do like yellow though, but I seem to wear a lot of navy. I do like burgundy but do not have much in that colour.
Antonio I think you should interchange the function and the fitting. The function must be the first thing in mind before fitting and fabric.
Agree. Most people will either focus entirely on fit [or not at all in the "baggy" or "skinny" department] and still are just wearing jeans and "hoodies" to court and weddings and flip-flops and tank tops out on cocktail party dates, etc.
❤❤
aw man, i was expecting an April fool's video this year!
😁
Almost. The whole "capsule" concept is a bit off for menswear. Either you have a job where you need to wear suits or you don't. In which case, you will still need at least five suits, etc.
I’ve always wondered the 16 items equaling 256 outfits. Are some of those outfits (only shoes)? Or are all 256 outfits actually doable?
No. The Capsule idea does not work with menswear the same as women's clothes for starters. A white dress shirt shouldn't be paired with blue jeans. A grey "hoodie" doesn't go with sport jackets. I don't know why so many channels keep pushing this notion when dedicated items make up better ensembles even if they get worn less overall.
Yes, in this equation with the 16 items, some outfits are just the same with different shoes or the same with just a different trouser or the same just with a different jacket.
Antonio, one thing you forgot was cost per wear. I'd wager that's important if one wants a stylish wardrobe on a budget.
He sort-of alluded to this when he talked about the suit that only gets worn three times in a decade. But he also fails to mention that most clothes get dingy or outgrown within three to five years, anyway.
@@Highland_Paddy I'm a guy who needs to have it spelled out for me. If he did say it, I missed the subtlety. Although it's a good video overall.
I just still disagree with the Capsule premise since men's and women's clothes aren't exactly the same thing and most guys try to wear the wrong thing to the wrong occasion like he says but BECUASE they are also trying to own less things like he says.
Those your colognes in the background!?!?!?
Excellent day, when will there be new videos on the channel in Spanish?
Hey Antonio. Do you own the hundreds of outfits you've presented? Or who does own them?
Yes!
So... as much as I would love to dress like this, and have a tailor put everything in the fit, it's not a reality I can afford, definitely not able to hit up a high end men's suit store... so if you remove the personal tailor and the pricey shirts and suits and pant... how would you attempt to do this if your options for sizes that fit you are only found in a walmart/kohls/burlington/ross/thrift store... pretty much, how do you dress high class, with a very limited selection, and limited income?
I shop at thrift stores and have found luxury brands. Usually the shirts are 2$, coats are maybe 10$ and trousers are 5$ and if you have a tailor it doesn't cost to much to have it adjusted to your body. I have long arms and I'm lean so I have to buy bigger to fit my arms and have the shirt taken in. Good luck
Try JC Penney instead of Wal* for starters. Actually, since a lot them "professional" people are work from home still, ebay and the like is where some bargains for more upscale offerings can be found than the usual Thrift store items. Unless you know where the wealthier neighborhood donations end up by store location, I've never had much success finding high quality stuff with thrift stores and yard sales as some people, I guess. Estate sale instead of yard sale maybe, but most of the off-the-rack stuff from once-reliable companies is cut terrible now, anyway, so it's like they want to put themselves out of business.
@@Highland_Paddy thrift store can be hit or miss depending where you live, I'm lucky to be near a few big cities that I can find things like Brooks brothers, Burberry, Allen Edmonds shoes, etc at thrift stores. I have a buddy that wears Tommy Bahama and I have found the same shirts while thrifting for 5$ and he pays 60$+.
*Buy fewer items:* It's cheaper to get one item tailored than three. If you get timeless items, you can wear them more often. Most importantly, learn when you have *enough.*
*Budget an allowance:* Set aside a certain amount per week or per month for your clothes. Expensive items might require a few months of saving before you've saved up enough. This trick allowed me to spend a reasonable amount on my wardrobe without overspending.
*Learn which tailoring is easier/harder:* There's a fashion CZcamsr (and Antonio can probably provide the name of the guy I'm referring to) who does some of his own tailoring, and his channel teaches people how to do the same. Even if you can't do that yourself, certain adjustments are cheaper or more expensive at a tailor. Shortening sleeves and pants is fairly cheap. Taking in shirts and pants is usually about double that. Certain adjustments (shoulders) are *very difficult* and correspondingly expensive. So when I buy something, I focus on items that fit well in the most important areas.
*Search for brands that fit well off the rack:* I figured out that Hanes t-shirts fit me perfectly with no tailoring … and they cost about $7. Kohls has a couple brands that fit me well. Amazon has three brands of button up shirts and two brands of pants that fit well. If I buy any of those brands, I can skip the "tailor tax."
*Thrift stores and eBay:* For more expensive items, I'll spend some time checking through eBay (and the same works for thrift stores). Look at the brand name on the tags, then hit Google to see if its a quality brand. This is not a solution when you need something soon. I'll hit eBay, find nothing, repeat two to four weeks later, nothing, etc., until I find what I want (at a price I'm willing to pay) several months down the road. For thrift stores, expect a similar experience. I bought an *amazing* tweed sports coat off eBay for $26 + $9 shipping + $20 tailoring. For eBay sports coats I generally assume that I'll need to spend $40 in tailoring. I'm sometimes pleasantly surprised when it's less.
*Antonio's 4 x 4 x 4 x 4 formula makes a point, but it's limited:* My shirts cost less than my shoes. My pants cost less than my jackets. I wear shirts, pants and shoes every day, and jackets less than 25% of the time. I might be able to maximize that formula (as compared to the all-mighty dollar) by buying more of an inexpensive item and fewer expensive items.
*Dress for what you need:* I need a suit. It doesn't matter how rarely I wear it, I need *one* suit. I live in a hot climate, and I regularly work from home, so I wear t-shirts and shorts a lot. I have 4 pairs of shorts for exercising, and 4 pairs of shorts for nicer wear. I have a full dresser drawer of t-shirts, and half are for exercising, and half can be worn for social occasions. I go into the office twice per week, and I need to dress business casual (or better) those days, so my wardrobe reflects that.
*Avoid visible logos:* High class clothing usually doesn't have a visible logo. If you buy an inexpensive item that lacks a logo, it will be much more difficult for someone to determine how little it cost.
@@fmfdocbotl4358 I used to have better luck in the 80s before all the boutiques started going thru and buying up all the "vintage" stuff that was cheap before Nirvana or whatever, but then, my style has totally changed since THEN, right?
RMRS is probably the best all-around, high-yield resource for modern men's style. Clothing, fragrance, watches, life advice; all indexed and accessible. Gentleman's Gazette is great, but they are a bit eclectic and lean more towards the retro/niche fashions that most men will never wear. Hespoke Style is another good one, but he doesnt post as much these days and tends to lean towards high-end clothing. Style OG is solid, but leans more towards black men and urban looks. 40 over fashion? Eh...I'll stick with RMRS.
I hate sneakers & puffer jackets
Me too.
Until the the last two years watching Gentleman's videos on I had a decent wardrobe, because to the video, I've realised that my wardrobe is classic and stylish as well, I sometimes have to replace certain items as they age and not good to wear any more, that's life!
However, I avoid retail store (in New Zealand) as over 90% what they sell is basically crap! Poor quality so called high quality! Like genuine leather shoes sold for $250-$470 as to top/corrected grain shoes sometimes sold for over $800! So called supply and demand! Of course there are retailers in New Zealand like *Pat Menzies - Auckland* they sell a pair of shoes *Loake 200B* for $470 top grain leather at the *true price* whereas genuine leather shoes should be sold for around $20-25 each (glued). As I now know that top/full grain shoes are Goodyear Welted!
Skip the hoodie.

Why is this video so freaking fast and aggressively edited? :/ I know it's now common practice to over-stimulate viewers due to their diminishing attention span, but I don't think this kind of channel should go in that direction.
