Gauze is now my go to gloss. Great for metal finishes and works great at levelling the paint finish and for decal work.

Another idea........... MinWax Polyacrylic clear. Super hard and highly publishable. Apply in coats and dry with hair dryer in between.

Interesting. I try to stick with paint that is made specifically for models. How does it look long term? Yellowing?

Hi, I have a few questions about the aqua gloss as I've been looking at it.
    1. Is aqua gloss actually acrylic (the label says lacquer)?
    2. Can it actually be cleaned out of an airbrush using just water or do you need some other type of thinner?
    3. Do you need a respirator to safely spray this? I have a spray booth and a basic mask and goggles as I've only been spraying using acrylics.
    Any help is appreciated.

It is an acrylic lacquer. I use water to clean but also use isopropyl alcohol for a better clean. It does not smell and so you might be ok without a respirator but it is still recommended with whatever you spray.

@@WasatchModeler Thanks for the reply! Yeah it's probably best to err on the safe side. I've ordered a respirator that should deal with any of the fumes/particulates and I'll wait until it comes in to start spraying.

Hello Sir. I'm coming back into the hobby after ~30 year hiatus. I'm gonna do some tanks and aircrafts with water based acrylics as basecoats and I'm trying to find out which acrylic varnish I should use to protect it from the enamels, oils and pigments (and the thinners) that I'm going to use while weathering. The amount of information and opinions is kinda overwhelming. Some people suggest something while others say they have had nothing but bad luck with the same said product etc. I am unable to get Future/Klear/Johnson floor wax over here. Would you recommend alclad aqua gloss for a beginner or is there possibly some other "true and reliable" acrylic gloss varnishes which I should look for? Also is the matt version from alclad suitable for weathering as I understand that glossy surface is not always the best for some weathering techniques like the oil dot or streaking? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for the content you are providing for this hobby.

There can be a lot of variation on opinions. I like the ak gauzy for my gloss clear. Aqua gloss is not bad and many people get it to work well. As for if you can use a matte finish before weathering depends on the result. Gloss is smooth and so the wash or pigments will want to run only to the panel lines. If you use matte then the wash or pigments will have more to bind to making it have a different dirty effect.

    Do you thin the products?

Nope. Straight up. They generally advise to not thin.

@@WasatchModeler i have a question about gauzy using an airbrush, how do you clean or remove it after using?

@@democracy2005 Water and then your airbrush cleaner of choice. Whatever you use to remove acrylic paints will clean this stuff out.
