Thank you so much for this wonderful video, I found the birth record of my great grandfather on Matricula Online! I never knew of such databases, I pretty much gave up on my German ancestors but now I have a renewed excitement about researching them!

Thank you for all the help with German research! My 6th great uncle is J S Bach. My Grandson is so intrigued by that, that it has made family history a big interest for him.

Thank you for this video, I checked out Matricula Online and found my great grandfather's birth record! Carl Heinrich Wurm was born in 1831 in St Nicolai, I know it's him because it lists his mother's name. I don't see an option to download though, or even a payment option.

Matricula online is a free website. Indeed there is no download option, so the only thing you can do is make a screenshot. You can put the browser into full screen mode, click the book icon on the bottom below the image to remove the right side panel, and zoom to make the image as large as possible while still fitting everything on the screen, then take a screenshot.

What about Bavaria is the main records in Germany? The reason I ask is that my ancestors come up as Switzerland but were in Bavaria. Thanks in advance.

Bavaria is a state within Germany. Historically, it was a kingdom within the German Empire. Bavaria was never part of Switzerland. The family may have moved from one place to the other, or perhaps part of the family came from Switzerland and part from Bavaria.
