  • In this video I will be reviewing an HO Scale Broadway Limited Pennsylvania Railroad S-2 6-8-6 Turbine. This model has Paragon 4 with DCC Sound and Smoke. This model is a brass hybrid that is incredibly detailed.

The LMS in the UK built a one off Duchess loco, was called the " turbomotive " was quite successful until it was involved in the infamous Harrow rail disaster in 1952, she was badly damaged, but was rebuilt as a standard Duchess locomotive...
The drive was gear driven from the turbine, the single coupling rod, connected the drivers together, but all wheels were gear driven, was just to keep the wheels in sync...
Lovely piece of model making there, but very expensive...

That’s neat. I don’t know about that locomotive. I really like the experimental locomotives with turbines. It’s a cool technology for its time. Thank you for watching!

I personally find the Paragon 2 PRR S2 to be the best engine they have. No modifications needed honestly.

Sadly, these still sound just like the old QSI junk from 20 years ago. For the price they charge, I wish they’d just use Soundtraxx or ESU. My Big Boy and N&W 1218 both sound horrible.

I'm waiting for the GS4. I'm getting the western pacific scheme and the daylight scheme. If I'm able I'll even get the bsnf version.

Oh yeah the new GS4 models are much anticipated by many. Hopefully they come soon! The BNSF version is going to real nice!

Why do you think a loco this heavy has the dreaded traction tires? Thanks.

My thought process lead me to this assumption… The weight distribution among the drive axles doesn’t allow for full traction. On most steam locomotives you’ll notice that the drive axles are fixed to the frame of the locomotive. There is not much play as there is on diesel locomotives where the trucks can move with the angle and change in track conditions. That is only my thought based off of looking at the locomotive move long uneven track work. It is possible to buy full metal drive wheels from BLI to replace the wheels that have traction tires. I found the ones on these newer models are actually good.
