    Awesome video on the DMX. The comb filter example really sounds like The effect Eddy Grant used on Electric Avenue to get a motorcycle rev sound. Maybe?

    Great video! Not a lot out there on this unit, surprisingly. I am a big fan of its sound from the work of Peter Gabriel and Daniel Lanois. UA just came out with a plug-in version today, which prompted me to find this video. Hope I can give it a try someday!

      Have yet to try the plugin! One cool advantage of the plugins is that the fans in these old AMS units are about as loud as a desktop computer from the 90's.... so they are usually the loudest thing in the room when turned on 😆 they are very fun though

    I just bought the UAD plugin version of the hardware and I was searching for some inspiration on new ways to make use of this beast. So glad I found it, very much appreciated! :)

    not sure if anyone else has commented on this but the "comb filter" sounds around 9mins in are the basis of Karplus Strong synthesis, a good example of this is Mutable Instruments Rings (check out the videos on here) very cool Eurorack module that brings this kind of sound into an actual playable sound pallet.

      I have got the pitch cards as well. Do you know if you can bypass the pitching when you do feedback delays (regenerate)

    Barber pole also known as the Shepard tone, I didn’t know the ams dmx was capable of simulating that with pitch shifting. It truly is a marvel of technology.

    • @nofunclub2604
      @nofunclub2604  Před 11 měsíci

      You can't get the true "endless" shepard tone thing, but you can definitely get something very similar!!

    • @kristoferkoessel4354
      @kristoferkoessel4354 Před 11 měsíci

      @@nofunclub2604 It’s actually amazing because I bought an ams s-dmx recently. I see what you mean with how there’s a limit to the capabilities, but from experience I do believe if we wanted an infinite Shepards tone we could take three different identical tracks of the ams dmx but all pitch shifted in different proportional intervals. Then pitch shift each track down exactly the same rate as eachother using the dmx nudge buttons and record them. Then align the tracks together and loop the track at the point where the tracks reach the octave of the previous track. I haven’t tried it yet but I’ve done this with synths and such in the past as an experiment and it works.

      @@nofunclub2604 I’ve had my unit for a couple months now and I realized that you could easily make a shepards tone by taking the pitch ratio down about .25 up or down and then ride the regen on a channel very close to unstable and ride it there to hold the induction. Thanks for making this video it really helped understand the unit much more!

    Also, if you don’t mind sharing, what is the xtal/vco switch down by the nudge buttons? I feel like I read about it in the manual a long while back, but can’t recall what it’s use was.
