I first heard about this a few years ago, then I went to AK and talked to a cast member who mentioned some stuff they were planning (river ride, banshee ride, new technology). Now seeing this video, I almost cried. This is going to be absolutely amazing and could be among my favorite sections and Disney World, if not my favorite.
im crying my eyes out , im so happy they are making this park , its a dream come true for me , this is on my bucklist now,i love avatar and the creatures are so beautiful. i have been wishing to go to pandora ever since ive watched the movie and im literally fan girling over this, i love this. im so excited!!!!

Totally out of the blue when I first heard this was happening, but anything to make Animal Kingdom stand up to par with the other three big parks. I can't wait. Blow me away.
Literally so excited about this!!!!!!! It's going to be perfect, especially since it's coming from Disney. Disney never fails to surpass my expectations; they really know how to make a place feel real.
Imagine a wing coaster which flies along and interacts with the flying mountains. It could be themed to the dragon creatures and it would be awesome! Please Disney!
I will cry when I visit! I love avatar so much and adore pandora it's so beautiful I will cry I know so! I love it so much and have dreamed to go there ever since it came out and I'm so thankful that Disney is creating this

Whether a fan of the movie or not, immersive theme park environments are wonderful.
I wasn't sure what I felt about this but the ideas look really cool and i can definitely see it fitting into Animal Kingdom. We just have to trust in Joe's awesomeness!

All of you sarcastic haters, you are soulless. No one is going to twist your arms to go there. Stay away. Walt Disney presented a happy place for families to share joy, wonder, adventure. Avatar fits this vision. And if our children get the message that they will be the caretakers of our planet, more the better. If Disney can not open your heart to joy, go somewhere else and keep your spite to yourselves. I do believe everyone can find happiness somewhere, maybe Disney is not the place for you.
Been going for over 14 years.. I have the best memories of my life at Disney and I will continue to go and make even more memories! Excellent comment.

I agree! While the plot was somewhat weak, and not as original, the effects were just unbelievably mind-blowing. "Avatar"'s effects, definitely rival "Gravity"'s in splendour, and awesomeness. ;)
Walt was an innovator to see avatar come to life he would def approve particularly when they are using technology.

I think this will be quite impressive.
I will go Animal Kingdom. Due to the opening AVATAR Land, we could be able to stay much longer at Animal Kingdom. Previously, i had to sadly leave the park soon after the sun sets. Thanks Disney Imagineers and to all James Cameron's creative members for making mesmerizing addition to the Disney World !!

I think some are forgetting the message the movie was trying to convey-- conserving the land, its living creatures, both fauna and flora... treating the land with respect and having respect for its inhabitants both big and small. For THIS reason, I understand completely why they would build Pandora in Animal Kingdom.
How many people actually remember that movie enough to want to visit a park based on it?
They're making this cause it's one of the highest grossing films of all time.

even if you don't like the plot of the first film you can't deny that the art direction of Avatar is incredible. Pandora was the main character and I think people just didn't get that, the world was alive and if people would have just stopped and enjoyed the scenery instead of trying to dissect plot points they would have enjoyed it. This is going to be absolutely a game changer for theme parks.
A nice restaurant similar to the Rainforest Cafe or T-Rex Cafe featuring Pandora's foliage and animals would be awesome to have in Avatarland.

Avatarland (like the movie itself) will focus on the preservation of environment which is exactly what the whole of Animal Kingdom is.
Let's not forget about one of the first original concepts that was built into Disney's Animal Kingdom: Beastly Kingdom. DAK has a history of incorporating the real and the fantasy.

What is about to come to The Disney Animal Kingdom its pure Disney innovention, Disney always makes it better!
I was never on board for this project, but I do think that this part of the park holds a lot of potential and Pandora is beautiful. I know Disney can pull it off, though I don't think it will ever have as much success as Harry Potter did, which is what they're trying to match.

Man, if they pull this off right. This will be the most epic part of Disney. They will attract so many people. Then, we know what that means? Disney will probably make their tickets $200-300.

I'm sure this will be wonderful when it opens. Disney has a tradition of striving to provide the best entertainment on and off screen. As far as competition with Universal Studios is concerned, there really is none. Going by the attendance numbers last year - Magic Kingdom had 18.6 million visitors, Animal Kingdom had 10.2 and although its percentage of increased visitors to Universal Orlando was an impressive 14%, it still only had 7.1 million visits. In reality, all theme parks look up to and on many occasions, some work with Disney and its Imagineers.

Animal Kingdom could use an expansion, since they only have two hooks: dinosaur and everest.
One of the main reasons why they are putting this in Disney's Animal Kingdom is because when it was being planed out, they wanted three different groups of animals to be featured in the park. Animals that are around today, animals that are extinct (dinosaurs), and animals that only exist in myths (Dragons, unicorns, yeti). Unfortunately they didn't have enough in the budget to build the mythological area. So they are hoping that Pandora will fully complete the theme park. Proof that they were going to build a mythological section is in the logo (a dragon standing in the middle of the row of animals), the front gate (A dragon head is on one of the large stands), and there is a parking lot called the Unicorn section.

Xelku9 I think that's the most appealing part. Animal Kingdom was a never a choice for at least my family because it's essentially a half-day park. For Park Hoppers that's great, but not for a family of five that can only afford maybe 2 parks every trip to Disney. It's about time AK was expanded. However I hope Disney finishes Avatarland quickly so they can get to building the rumored Star Wars expansion at Hollywood Studios :D
Did you guys know that the Lost Continent at IOA came because of Disney? Apparently, when they were designing the park, laid off imageneers brought them the idea that was once going to be used for AK. That's basically why Dueling Dragons original theme was what it was.

I'm glad to see they are taking their time on this part of the park and not doing a rush job. Highly hopeful that this will be on par with the magic I first experienced as a 5 year old when WDW was new.....although 5 year old me was easier to impress so it will have to go above and beyond what was done in the early 70's....and with the team they had back then that will be a hard act to follow. I have a feeling though that really might hit the ball out of the park...metaphorically.

MAD SiNDAKiT lol I didn't think those were fiber optics, from the video it looked like some kind of video projection wizardry. A lot of Disney's new technological advancements are coming in the form of video projection (the new animatronics with moving faces, the Cinderella castle presentation, etc.) so for all YOU know it could just be MAGIC :P

And as for the Bug's Life show:
1) It's for little kids and their families,
2) It teaches the kids about the different kinds of bugs that can be found in the real world,
3) While the designs of the bugs are a bit cutesy, they are at least based on real bugs found in the real world,
4) A 20-minute show with cutesy bugs singing & telling jokes is more credible than an entire land based on a preachy environmental film shot composed of green screens, blue screens & obvious CGI with no basis in fact.

The Star Wars Land coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios, and the other enhancements rumored for that park, will be the thing that rivals HP. This (Pandora) will be an amazing immersive environment and wonderful addition to Animal Kingdom. This land will be amazing to walk through, and with its 2 or 3 rides, along with new night time show and night time Kilimanjaro Safari, Animal Kingdom will have itself a decent expansion/upgrade. :-)

I've been to Tokyo Disneysea. Compared to what's there, we are definitely STUCK with "Soarin' over Pandora."
