Apex head, heavy flywheel, pv mod and gear it down - it's amazing in the mountain singletrack! Plus everywhere else, from warner valley to the top of AF canyon.
Of course it’s good for mountain single track. Regular yz 250 was great too. I rode woods converted yz250s from 2001 until 2017. Must’ve had 6 of them. Then the X came out in 2016 I think and I got one in 2017. Rode it from 2017 to 2020. Then I bought a ktm 300xc tpi and haven’t looked back. But they are plenty capable. After riding the ktm for a month I tried to go back to the Yamaha and couldn’t. I never noticed vibration until I rode the ktm and hopped back on the Yamaha. It was like going from an electric bike to a Harley. But yes. More than capable. If Yamaha would upgrade it a little. Maybe a counterbalanced motor and an e start I’d go back. Wouldn’t even have to have a 300. I’d buy a 250 if they’d do those upgrades.
Well put! If yamaha would do just a few changes it would be a dream bike! I also had a 2020 300xc and now I have a 2024 tx300 tbi! It's even better than the tpi! I love the yz but the kick start is the deal breaker! It's sooo good in the desert but in rough terrain kicking just sucks haha but I will say in the desert it was my fav bike I've ridden in a while!
@@utmx myself I want to wait and see if they do the changes to the yz250fx that they did to the 24 yz250f. If they slim it down and do all that to it I may try one of those.
I personally like the visceral old school two stroke. I’ve ridden a ktm 200 for the last decade, purchased a new 300 and sold it with 42 hrs. That ol 200 still runs like a dream.

Those would make this bike amazing! I actually just sold it.... however I sold it to my riding buddy so I'll be riding it a lot still!!

@@utmx I still have my 300xc tpi. I wanted to upgrade to a tbi, but I gel so well with the 300xc tpi I can’t bring myself to get rid of it.
