    More great content! My top will say it's fully open (light goes off in the dash) however the clamshell still sits 0.25" - 0.50" above the rest of the body, it settles over time during driving, still trying to figure that out. Thanks for the in depth look at the mechanism/electricals, hopefully mine will stay quiet for the time being :).

    That MICRO SWITCH in the LR side panel below the hydraulic ram...is called a POTENTIOMETER ...aka VARIABLE RESISTOR...they are the POSITION SENSOR.

    • @HelpMeDIY
      @HelpMeDIY  Před 6 měsíci

      What is the “LR side panel”? What is the “hydraulic ram”?
      This is why video is so much better than text 😆

    Thanks for the video! i recently purchased a 1999 base model and have been using your videos a ton for reference. the previous owner completely removed the convertible top from the car and the frame and i see my microswitch laying in area on top of the foam where the top would go when folded down. I found a spot on the actual convertible frame where it may bolt up to. Is there any instances where the microswitch is bolted to the convertible frame vs where yours is located within the b-pillar? I don't see any spot on the b-pillar or anywhere behind it where that microswitch may bolt up to. Thanks!

    I have a 2001 porsche boxster I just bought and the top doesnt work I was following along and found I am missing on of the microswitches. I am looking for the part number or where to buy one but cant find anything. I am not looking for a hole top latch but just one of the chips.

    Fantastic job of videoing and explaining. I have a 1999-986. I hope you can help.
    There is a black triangle on my double relay, thus I assume it is the A type.
    I rebuilt the drivers side convertible top transmission. To remove the transmission I had to disconnect a micro switch. The micro switch is attached to the transmission and triggered by the two extremes of rotation. This wire was difficult to remove because it was under the noise deadening pad against the body, only circa 6 inches long, limiting how far I could move the transmission.
    Once detached I pushed the now lose micro switch plug toward the front of the vehicle, note it is attached to the wire harness. Now when I go to reinstall the transmission I cannot find this electrical plug which wasn’t cut from the vehicle, its a part of the harness! Ive been looking for it (without dismantling anything I’m afraid I will break a lot of expensive parts.) for a few weeks now. Can you tell me where to look for it or show it on video? Thanks for reading this. Alan

      +Alan Hall thanks! I have never had to disassemble (or even remove) one of the transmissions so I don’t think I can be of much help there. Maybe post some pictures on my Facebook page and ask there to see if someone else might be able to chime in?

    Hi, I have a 07 boxster and I need to rebuild the transmission because of the plastic gear broke. But I cannot unplug the microswitch connector on my driver side transmission. Do you have any suggestion about how to unplug it? Thank you!

    I have a 2000 Boxster, top goes up and down ok but light will not go off when it is retracted fully. I do not have the center limit switch by the motor, so I'm assuming I have a type B top with the limit switches in the left side transmission. Are those switches replaceable parts or is the only option a whole new $$ left side transmission?

    The black triangle is on the back of that relay, it’s part of the casting on the case of the relay. Go back and look at your video, it was clear as day as you were spinning it around in your hand.

      +Joseph Aroner you’re sure that’s it? I was under the impression it was something similar to that square printed on the label. Maybe it is! 🤷‍♂️

    I'll work on it, i have a 987, looks like does not have the microswitch on B pilar or motor, i have been having problems with my top, i unplug my transmission and left my top manual, but my dash shows an bip alarm and message on the dash "top not on the limit position" so, i can't close all the way my windows, so, that want to mean it's a microswitch, but my top it's a mess, i'll see if i can cancel the microswitch.
