    On the last test,
    Was that 6 chops, then you had to pull and brake the wood apart by hand...
    so is would have taken more then 6, but you didn’t want to make the nice high dollar axe look bad right...

    I have that same Estwing, the black one actually, factory edge needed some touching up but it performs swimmingly in all these tests. Technique plays a big roll. I like to sink it in, then pick it up and bring it down on the back side of the ax. 2 swings and the round is split.

    The Estwing is better for me as a carpenters axe. The thinner blade is like a large gyprock hammer so I can cut through walls etc rather than trying to split apart stuff. The rubber handle protects against accidental electric shock. I never have to worry about losing it at this price or some one breaking the handle.
    I retired after 35 years doing house renovations and just purchased their new all black limited edition.
    Before becoming a carpenter I traveled and camped from Canada to the bottom of Mexico and carried the blue version back in the early eighties, for chopping wood and self defense. I want something unbreakable when traveling. For me each type has it's place but as a 35+ year carpenter with mostly estwing striking tools this axe fits my bill. If I were doing chopping regularly then I'd go for something different

    I use an estwing 44e. Works great as a throwing hawk. Can't hurt it. When you bust the handles on the others you're porked You were testing axes with different head profiles.thats why they were different. If you want performance pick up a Fiskars 29" splitting axe. Can't kill it. I used it logging to drive wedges dropping timber and also to split oak cordwood 16 and 24" It'll chop thru any timber to unstick your chainsaw and has a very sharp edge. That's my 2Cents.

    Had one of these Estwing axes myself. Where it really shone was limbing, and small stuff. Being really light weight, it was handy for trimming a load that was already on a truck(didn't have a pole saw). Was offered a rifle in trade for it. So the feller had himself an axe that I would otherwise still own...

  • @williamwazere
    @williamwazere Před 9 lety +12

    Isn't this the same footage of the original comparison leaving out the failure of the Autine. It was like epoxied to fill some forging imperfections in the eye on the narrow side when you went investigating.
    You then contacted them. Mr. Neeman was apologetic and said send it over no questions asked and we'll fix it. You then fixed it yourself and it was a great tool with a handle properly making contact over the surface area of the eye.
    I understand you pulled that video for your own reasons, something like that you felt it wasn't a fair representation of the axe and company as it was a mistake (that we all make) but they were willing to own and rectify it so all's forgiven.
    I agreed with that personally. As long as a company is willing to engage with an issue and be honest then problems are just life and perfectly fine.
    However I think you should have left in the detail in this video. It's your channel and you have complete authority of course, it just seems you're leaving a huge component of your experience to give an artificial impression to viewers of the video.
    I think people for the most part would be ok with it once they knew how communicative the company was and how it turned out very nicely when you made the new handle.
    I don't know, maybe Mr. Neeman asked you on a personal level not to let a once off represent his work. I can understand that, but if that's the case I just wouldn't publish the video at all as opposed to altered.
    Edit: I went back and looked on your main channel (only realised this was the secondary channel a moment ago) and you have the two videos regarding the challenge there in full. As such I want to apologise for suggesting you haven't put up all the footage and the story. You absolutely have done so. That's fair enough, the information is there at the end of a 5 second search.

      It amazes me that the distance of strikes isn’t something anyone is talking about the first two shots with the estwig are easily a foot apart compared to his more expensive axes where the first two shots were less than 6 inches apart

    • @Northanteus
      @Northanteus Před 3 lety +2

      @@biggusdikkus4184 Yep! I just watched it again and can clearly see that he struck much closer together with the Autine. Wow. Reading about what happened by another commenter, the Autine head came loose but the video was cut off to not show that in this one. Someone else said that Wranglestar posted it on another video though, which I've not seen yet. Either way, the Estwing only taking 7 hits to split, and the others took 6, is pretty impressive when comparing price. 🤔 I am looking for a splitting axe, but also want one to cut down a tree if I ever had to, so probably going Estwing on this. $40 ? Can't hurt to try it for testing. And I don't have to ever worry about the *HEAD COMING LOOSE!* 🤣

    I have that Estwing axe. When I bought it, they were selling uphill of $50. I have really enjoyed the balance and sturdiness of Estwing hammers and thought the axe looked equally functional. Much to my dismay, and extra effort, it really doesn't seem to bite well when cutting, and the balance and strike angle seem off somehow for splitting. Granted, I don't have as good an edge on it as any real woodsman would insist upon. But it really seems to be a lot more work than it should be.
    Along side of really bringing the cutting edge up sharp, are there any recommendations for improving the Estwing axe?

    3.The Estwing has a goofy head design and the metal handle will hurt your arm joints real bad if used long enough but that is not what it is meant for.
    4. What happend with the precious Autine? Since the handle issue I never heard of it again. Under $300 for it is a bargain, guys pay more for stupid pocket knives so wedgy that don't even cut
