Is AT&T Fiber 2.5 gbps "Internet 2000" worth it?

I assess my AT&T Internet 2000 (2.5 gigabit internet) connection and worth.
I've had 1 gigabit AT&T fiber internet since 2016 with generally a good experience for $90/month after initial 3 months free. At that time I upgraded my slower sub-gigabit ASUS router to a tarantulic ASUS RT-AC5300 router which maxes out at 1gigabit speeds for all LAN. The wifi on it cast a huge shadow in my neighborhood and seemed probably superior to even this newer router. My new router, ASUS GT-AX11000pro seems to have faster wifi (600-700s) speeds, but smaller radius of signal. The LAN ethernet speeds on this new AX11kpro are outstanding at about 2300/2300 with no throttlers like certain programs, certain browsing settings, etc. I've concluded that my ReoLink PC client among other things massively throttles my internet speed at my end computer (no matter the components). I've tried to isolate the issue by testing almost everything else. Unfortunately I'll have to live with these sub-2gig speeds (usually something like 1600/1900) to use my reolink pc client at all times I have my computer on.
So with a good router, good cables (cat6a, cat7), good ethernet powered switch (I use TP-Link TL-SG108-M2), good LAN 2.5gigabit ports, adapters, or PCI-e cards (like TP-Link TX201) - I'm getting up to 2300s/2300s speeds consistently so long as throttling programs are closed on my computer.
The effect/experience is significant and noticeable when browsing, viewing streaming content, transferring files, uploading and downloading files from cloud or websites. It does NOT help the speeds of the latest appleTV nor latest roku streaming devices as they max at 100mbps-1gigabit/sec speeds (I have roku 4kultra as well as appleTV 4k 128gb 3rd gen). If you can choke down $120/month ($1440/year) cost of AT&T Internet 2000 and have good enough equipment at home, I would recommend it. I would not recommend the Internet 5000 unless you are a tech company with access to otherwise consumer inaccessible hardware as of 2023.

For TCP connection tuning in Windows, you actually want to keep the auto-tuning setting set to "normal", so it's no surprise to me that you actually dropped your speeds in speed tests by 600 Mbps, as you're saying at around 11:45. The real killer in Windows that tends to wreak havoc with TCP connection speeds is the TCP scaling heuristics option.
Given my own past issues with TCP scaling heuristics in Windows,I always disable it nowadays, using SpeedGuide's TCP Optimizer utility. As for slower speeds in Firefox,that's also a known issue affecting some people as Firefox uses some really sub-optimal defaults, much like Windows. Fortunately there are some about:config tunables for Firefox that bump up the maximum allowed connections, which you could also try tweaking to get Firefox more on par with Edge or Chrome.

Man, i love living in Austria. Our ISPs upgrade to network standards other countries have since 5 years. Some ISPs still use DOCSIS 3.0 and don't want to upgrade to 3.1. 99% of the FTTH stuff (which is only 4% of households in the country) will only build out normal GPON. We have a ISP as a customer that does max 80mbit/s over his fiber network.
But now comes the question: What are you gonna use those 2.5gigs for? When I get fiber in my home next year I will book the 500 or 700Mbit plan for 50 or 60 bucks and that for me is hella expensive and the max I will want for the next 10 years. Other than downloading games and patches on Steam I don't know what I would need it for.

question so at&t fiber is coming to my neighborhood definitely gonna have it by the end of the summer i have a friends house i go over and play fortnite on he has fiber with at&t but has 1kmbps when i get it i want to get 2kmbps do you think it will make my ping any better from 1mbps i have a 2.5 mbps port in my pc as well thanks in advance

what is kmbps?
are u talkin about 1gig?
and going from 1gig to 2gig barely going to make difference cuz ur gonna already be on 0 ping

I'm not familiar with kmbps but 1k upload and download from fiber connection usually will provide very low ping ranging from 0-3, and if not i would consider upgrading your router in order to stabilize your connection and ping. I would personally only recommend the upgrade to 2500mbs if you have lots of devices in your home that are bandwidth needy or if you're simply downloading a lot of things frequently and would like to see them install faster. If your priority is simply just gaming, then your upload speed is what matters in that context as upload speeds will benefit more consistent bullet registration & movement. In most cases 1k, 1k is enough.

as you can see from my channel, I have over 25 security cams up and running 24/7 on an NVR along with multiple computers up and running. But for all that, I'd say I definitely notice the 2.5gbps up/down difference over my previous ~10 years of 1gbps up/down internet. Uploads, downloads/throughput speeds, streaming reliability and consistency, internet's overall consistency and function. The differences are in multiple ways both measurable and subjective, but I would never go back to 1gbps internet. When I was on my daughter's 1/1 gigabit internet at her college (hard-wired) a couple weeks ago during graduation, I noticed how laggy the gigabit internet was right away.

@@YiHogyunwow thank you and everyone else for your replies and yes i meant gig plans im getting the 2 gig plan and will be getting anywhere from 2,000 up and down to about 2,500 up and down im so excited getting it this monday around 12-2 pm est thank you again for all your replies i will let you guys know how it goes

Speed and latency aren't really related unless your internet is slow enough where its gets backed up and drops packets. It really depends on ATT's routing to the servers from the game company.
