      Turbosquid has lots of all kinds of models including trees

      you can use paint effects trees, you just will have to make some adjustments in order to render them in Arnold, I found this tutorial that can be useful for you: czcams.com/video/RWOT4QomaNg/video.html

    Nice tut on this. Can you perhaps make another one showing how to control coverage/distribution and possibly other parameters too, using paintable vertex color maps?

    Dude! i create a tree the I transformed into an assets but whe I try to duplicate with mash it dosent apper any tree, what I do wrong if I have 1 tree as a assets whit out mash the square apper and into the preview render the tree apper!
    HELP!

    Once I add the input mesh for the distribute node they no longer appear in my renders. Any one else with that problem?

    Even after switching viewport to Alpha cut, My trees still render with each pine having the black backdrop to it??? Is it because im in Maya 2017?

    For some reason as soon as I do the distribution to mesh thing the trees go to the sky and rotate, is there a way to control this?

    Hey, just learning about MASH now in 2020. Is the bounding box creation still necessary? Or is that the same as activating Bounding Box in the Repro node? Is that a new feature or something completely different and I still need to do that step?

    Guys im using paintfx tree and converting them to polygon but i dont get a tree like that shader is lambert, textures are seems odd leafs are seems like plane not alpha cuted, im using arnold render what should i do for get a good looking tree like in this video.

    one issue I'm facing is that the colour applies equally to all the needles at 5:20 without much variation . My leaves are stored as single mesh. do I have to separate them first?

    I have the same problem Tatjana asked about a few hours ago. My standIns import to their previous locations as expected, but when I create the network (Instancer) and then drag the terrain into the Input Mesh...all instances float above the terrain instead of sitting on it. The vegetation bounding boxes appear to scatter randomly but for the life of me I cannot tell why they won''t scattered ON the surface. Anyone have any ideas?

      little too late here but since i just figured this out: don't alter the transformations of the standIn that you use for creating the mash system! Just let it sit where it was created on the grid at import and then the position of the instances should be right on the mesh.

    Ive tried to load Arnold stand ins into Mash in Maya 2017.3 but it doesnt work. Is this a Maya 2018 feature?

    I used the Poplar trees et Poplar BG and when I rendered on Arnold, nothing of my trees is rendered :/ but other polygon mesh is rendered how can I fix it ?

    Hello. Now i know how this stuff works but I never thought about the technical part behind it.
    When you scatter those trees on particles they all count as instanced geometry.
    When you paint trees in your scene, are those instanced as well?

    ps can i ask how to use the attribute editor to turn on animation file sequence for standins in autodesk maya.... i currently have a scene unfortunately has only has some of the animation sequence turned on and they are over 2000 standin objects... i want to automation turn them on using the switch for it in arnold standin attribute editor section. if u can do a video for it and share links or here on youtube would be soooooo grateful ... thanks and God bless you for all the work you do here!

    look at iToo forest for 3ds Max, it's so sad in Maya, 2017, 2018 what ever. 620,000,000 trees what be awesome with MASH

    - Can you pls help me ... I have this problem that after i saved the file and re opened it, I can't see each bounding box anymore!
    - Can I mask or tell the mesh to only generate these trees in a specific area of the plane?

      Yes you can preview Standins in wire-frame, point cloud or bounding box on a per-proxy basis.

      I think this information is crital , tutorials should try to shed some light on their hardware .Most artist wonder why they have terrible performances when in truth you need a production workstation to take full advantage of the software features

      I'm pretty sure they never tell their system config.
      This is to trick the users watching the video into thinking that these tips and tricks are super amazing because they are rendering so fast and getting the desired results in very less amount of time .
      But when we do it step by step ourselves, we get stuck in rendering because our systems are not even half their configs.

    I am using plants (trees) exported with Plant Factory. The textures are PNG files.
    When I want to render by using "image sequence" render the textures are flickering.
    Can someone explain to me this Arnold phenomenon?
    Things I have tried:
    1. I thought it is because of the Dome Light, so I hid it and light the whole scene using Area lights. Still Flickering
    2. I thought it's because of the TX conversion. So I have unchecked "Auto-Convert Textures to TX" and left "Use existing TX". Still flickering

    The trees on the right are aiStandins and the one on the left are Mesh with Geometry cache.
    I am using Maya 2018 with Arnold 5.0.2.1

      Use Redshift proxies - Small Robot or something like that has done a YT tutorial on it & Redshift is better IMO because it's so much faster than Arnold

      Just to clarify, the demo takes about 10 min, the render a lot less .. I can actually render 2.2 quadrillion polys (2,200,000,000,000,000) in 1 min 24 sec at full HD on an average laptop
