    Do you have a favorite mini/travel tripod that's just as versatile? I'm sure I could add more to my collection!

    I hate the fact that not one youtuber even dares to put a mirrorless on these at full height. Thanks for demonstrating it.

    Awesome video man. I have the Siriu-T025x for backpacking needs and this Aoka looks very interesting at 1lb. I might change the ballhead on Sirui and see if it shaves a few grams to make it even lighter

    best vid I saw on this Aoka. Unlike others you show it at 28 inch as well as with the Turkey (wobble wobble) extension. Maybe extension would be usable at shortest )28+12) height? have the tabletop Sirui you show and this will replace it.

    This is exactly what I was looking for! - I currently have the KF BA225, I do like the fact the centre column can collapse down and that you can also convert it to a monopod which came in a handy a few times, it's great, but it is just a bit too big for day to day use. Compared to the Sirui and Aoka:
    - K&F BA225: 35cm folded, 152cm max height, 8kg load capacity, 1013g carbon fibre, converts to monopod
    - Sirui Traveler 5C: 33cm folded, 138cm max height, 4kg load capacity, 850g carbon fibre
    - Aoka CMP163: 37cm folded, 71cm extended, (138cm with extension pole), 2.5kg load capacity, 500g carbon fibre

    Thanks for this, I just got this after watching your review. I've got a few tripods and monopods from video work but I love this little guy for APS-C and MFT cameras. There are a few methods for having the tripod sturdier. One is to drop down the central column to a lower setting or replace the central column with a sturdier alternative carbon fibre one. Still, the easiest and cheapest way is to use some paracord with a loop on one end to tie to the top of the tripod and a taught-line hitch where you either stand on/add a heavy weight or peg to the ground which stops the shakes with the tension and takes next to no additional bulk or weight in your carry, it has its limits but give it a go, you may be surprised, although I think those large telephoto lenses would still be problematic due tot he weight distribution.

    That thing is insanely small. I have the Manfrotto Befree Live and love it. It's supposed to be a travel tripod but it's still quite heavy. I'll have to get this and check it out.

    Just ordered the sturdier type option, I’m a bit worried it too bulky when traveling we’ll see. Already have that smaller Sirui but it’s too short in many cases. This could be a nice compromise.

    I’m glad somebody likes it. I hate mine. The rubber gasket at the head always slips from the carbon fiber and never allows for a firm lock on whatever I’m mounting to it. Waste of money imho

    What's the actual weight on your scale?

  • @averypless
    @averypless Před 2 lety

    How much does it weigh without the center pole? I've been looking for a good backpacking tripod and this might fit the ticket!

    • @thatsginter
      @thatsginter  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey Avery! I just used our kitchen food scale to check. With no center column, and even the small screw for the caribiner clip between the legs, it's 1 lb, 1.20 oumces.

  • @MrRay645
    @MrRay645 Před rokem +1

    thanks for the video, love the Suri but wish you could remove the wobbly center column and use the camera directly on a top plate. Just ordered the Oaka for bicycle trips, the small folded diameter will be a huge bonus and figure I wont ever extend the smallest leg section or use the center column so should be plenty stable for my little Fuji Xpro2 / small lenses

    • @thatsginter
      @thatsginter  Před rokem +1

      Hey MrRay645! You can actually mount the ballhead straight to the legs without the center column! That’s actually how I prefer to use it. I actually usually use the center column as a short selfie stick for my 360 cam!

    • @MrRay645
      @MrRay645 Před rokem +1

      @@thatsginter very cool, mine must be an older Suri model. No way to remove center column. I have heavy duty and massive tripods covered and think the tiny Oaka will be great for the bike.

  • @fredschmidt8609
    @fredschmidt8609 Před 2 lety

    How did you get the head off to mount the extension? I tried the hex nut under the head between the legs underneath and its way too tight to remove. I'm afraid I'll ruin the nut itself if I try too hard.

    • @fredschmidt8609
      @fredschmidt8609 Před 2 lety

      Never mind. I figured it out. I bought this before I saw your review. I found your review when I was trying to figure out how to add the extension. Great review! I was searching for a light weight tripod for street use. I the past I have used a small plastic tripod and placed it on top of something to make it higher. It's less conspicuous than using a tripod in the usual manner. Great for night time cityscapes. This tripod does not need any space at all to use. The legs can be placed only 6" apart at their closest setting. If that's all the space I have, I can add the extension if I need to make it taller. You can't use a regular size tripod to do the things this tripod does.

    • @thatsginter
      @thatsginter  Před 2 lety

      Yea, I'm surprised how much I grab this tripod over all the other ones I own....just for it's size and weight. Long exposure night photography is so fun! Thanks for watching!
