As Ankit ji said, Stri Dhan in ancient Bharat was a woman's wealth which she brought with her when she got married, and this could be gold, silver or even land. But nobody else had any rights on this, not her husband or son. Stri Dhan was always passed down from mother to daughter and this should not be confused with Dowry, which is a Portuguese concept introduced in Bharat by the Europeans. In fact, Mumbai was given by the Portuguese to British Crown as dowry as part of a marriage arranged among the royal families of these two countries.
